Pop-up or not pop-up...

What is better in the long term? have a list builder pop up, which I found to be most effective to get subscribers, but annoying for the user, or discrete subscribe form that does not bother, but is less effective.
I am using the plugin in my web SumoMe fot WordPress.Thank you!

I regret I missed this question. Because I have been testing a lot with exit popovers and subscription popovers.
I strongly suggest you A/B test as well, including testing multiple copy for the popover.
While testing I would closely monitor bounce rate, signup rate and other target conversions you have. I would also use some visitors recording/playback service like http://www.hotjar.com/ or http://mouseflow.com/ (I suggest hotjar) to examine sample users interactions.
Depending on the nature/quality of the traffic and your target conversions you will likely find quite different results.
What I would expect based on my experience is
- users being annoyed and most of them closing the popup at an incredibly high speed,
- increase of signup,
- increasing bounce rate on pages with a high quality/targeted traffic, quality traffic mean low bounce rate, high user interaction and, if you have other goals/target a part from signups, high conversions
- lowering bounce rate on pages with poor quality traffic, if you have pages with high traffic, high bounce rate and good time spent on page a popover with a good copy is more likely to lead them to do something else than just leave
So, test it. And depending on your overall target and page specific target, choose if a popover is useless or harmful and which copy is best.

Hey Alberto!
I'd recommend taking the route that does NOT annoy the users by any means necessary.
Also, I agree with Don Ford's recommendation to check out jQuery dialog box. This is effective in my experience and is much less likely to frustrate people. Very important!!
Good luck!!

If you have a personal blog where you want to create a community relationship, I wouldn't use the pop up. I don't use it and in around 10 months I have nearly 1.000 subscribers.
If your blog is focused on a specific niche (not a personal blog) I guess you can use it, as it is more effective.

Alberto, have you considered a Jquery Dialog box. While technically it is a popup, you need an an event to trigger it. If you don't have something like an ONLOAD event and more of a click to learn more then the dialog is much better than a traditional popup. It is less likely to frustrate people.
Example..http://jsfiddle.net/umkbsms3/1/
Good luck with whichever route you go with!

Personally, I close those "join my email list" pop-ups as quickly as I can, because I find them annoying. Let users see your content and decide for themselves if they want more engagement.
If you've been soliciting users with a pop-up AND with a more discreet subscribe form, are you able to do an analysis of who subscribed via which method, and calculate engagement metrics (e.g., open rate) or the un-subscription rate for each? Maybe look at this metric by time period: past year, 6 months, 3 months, last full month, etc.
If so, you might find your answer there.
I prefer to see subscription options at the bottom of blog posts (I just read something amazing, and so I'm likely to sign up for more) or as a global element in a sidebar.

I personally would never risk to bother anyone. Most time a middle-way works out.

Requiring customer agree to shipping terms at checkout
I work for an ecommerce company that has many of its shipments go by LTL freight. Our customer service team has issues with a few customers per month that aren't equipped to receive freight shipments which leads to returns and other issues. In an effort to better inform our customers, the customer service team is requesting that we add a checkbox to the checkout that requires customers to agree to our shipping and returns policy, including a link to the policy page. I am wondering how concerned people here would be that requiring the customer to check a box agreeing to those terms would lead to more customers abandoning during the checkout process. Or do you think it's not a concern? Thanks for your thoughts.

Issue for Sales Team & Funnelling Smaller Orders
Hi, Hoping somebody might have some suggestions for funnelling smaller orders and larger orders on different journeys. Basically, 90% of our business comes from 10% of customers with larger orders, like contractors and organisations who fill out leads or call us. But about 90% of the sales teams time is taken up from handling lots of smaller calls, which account for <5% of our revenue. Obviously we still want these smaller orders, but would anyone have any suggestions on moving these customers away from phone calls? We've tried to add as much content to the site as possible to answer they're questions, but they seem to just call anyway. Hope you can help!

We changed our domain, I used the move tool in Google Search Console and I am having our site redirected and go daddy, and now I spoke with someone who suggest we do a 301 redirect for all pages on our site and I’m not sure that’s the correct move.
We just changed our domain name after 15 years. when I bought the new domain name I called Go Daddy and they instructed me to contact my google G sweet admin account and change all of our emails over which I did and then I went into Shopify who is my host and changed my primary domain there and then I went back to Go Daddy and had my old website forwarded to my new site. since then there has been nothing but problems with Google. my product feed from my merchant center account has been suspended three or four times now, I tried to rename and move all of my Google accounts from my old domain to my new one, but I am not an SEO person... after making the changes I have started google chats with analytics department with the merchant center with Google as they all keep saying that it looks fine but I’m not convinced because the product feed keeps getting disapproved. So I posted an ad for help and the Guy I spoke with suggested I do a 301 redirect for every single page on my old site, But I’m concerned that might confuse things further? I’ve already started the move in Google Search console And in Shopify I added the old domain back into the domains section and am having it redirectEd that way too... I guess I’m just looking to know which way I should proceed, any and all advice is warmly welcome thank you in advance Maureen

Redirect Management on Headless Wordpress w/ React Front End
Hello everyone, As Headless Wordpress becomes more and more popular, it becomes more complicated to manage and track 301 redirects. I'm reaching out for advice on this. Our main issue right now, is that after migrating from Drupal to a Headless Wordpress/React platform we lost the ability to track, manage, and view traffic analytics for users hitting those redirects. This was something we were able to do in Drupal. Example: If we have a redirect in place we could see how many times in the past x number of days that redirect was hit by users attempting to access the old URL. Unfortunately, Yoast Premium, has been helpful with other SEO needs, but this is one that it is not able to manage. Anyone have any ideas, experience, or thoughts on this issue? Thanks for your time

Reducing Negative Impact of Webpage Login Form
Our real estate website (www.metro-manhattan.com) now requires visitors to login in if they want to search our listing database. The result is that. 9 out of 10 visitors leave without searching; they simply refuse to set up an account. I have attached images of the search bar and login form. Is there a way to increase the percentage of visitors that login? We have tried to make it as simple as possible, allowing visitors to login by Facebook, Google or by providing their email address. We do not send any verification email. We are forced to. keep this login unfortunately. But is there anything we can do to reduce the visitor bounce rate? Thanks,

Better Conversions with Java Script Pop Up Form or with Independent Page (URL)?
Greetings MOZ Community? I manage a commercial real estate site (www.nyc-officespace-leader.com). Visitors view listings (for example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/listings/303-broadway-building-office-sublet-11189sf). If they want more details they click on the "Interested In This Space, Contact a Broker" button. They get directed to a contact us form like: http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/contact-us?from_listing=303-broadway-building-office-sublet-11189sf We are redesigning this form. Remove much of the text and allowing the visitor to check questions pertaining to the property, like "Schedule a Tour", "Get Floorplans", "Details on Similar Space'. Currently this conversion form is on its own URL, and as such has menus on top, which I am concerned could distract the visitor. Would we get better conversions if this form was a Java script pop up with no menus. That way there would be no distraction for the visitor and we would have a better chance of converting them. Any thoughts? Also, we are using Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to track conversions. Would changing to a Java Script pop up form have any implications for tracking? Thanks everyone!!! Alan
