OSE not picking up all internal links?
-
Hi! I've been checking a few pages in OSE. For example:
https://www.holidayhypermarket.co.uk/holidays/last-minute
This, according to the tool, has only 6 internal links. However, a Screaming Frog crawl picks up 700+, which is about right seeing as there is a link in the footer. What do you think could be behind the discrepancy?
-
Doubtful. Running a site:holidayhypermarket.co.uk search in Google returns 10,700 results, plus from the help documentation on OSE it says, "The second thing to keep in mind that the exported data will only include the top 25 pages per linking root domain," from: http://moz.com/help/guides/research-tools/open-site-explorer/top-pages-ose
So by design it's not really a tool that's trying to duplicate Google, rather make an actionable scaled down copy of what's going on.

Thanks. I guess my point though is if that OSE is struggling to find the links, could the search engines? These aren't buried links - they are easy to see on the page. It would be good to know if there is a glitch or if something else is going on.
-
I wouldn't use OSE as an onsite crawler. That's what a tool like Xenu Link Slueth or Screaming Frog is for.
-
Hi! I understand that OSE isn't 100% accurate, but I'm wondering if something else is going on. It picks up internal links for competitors fairly accurately. It would be good to know though why it isn't picking up the footer links - could the code be difficult to crawl etc? It may be hinting at a problem that I've missed.
-
OSE also clusters by domain, so for a given link you're not going to get near the 700+ which are internal. As a general practice OSE is great for getting at link diversity, goal setting, and seeing where the competition has gotten links in the past. It should give you plenty of ideas that way. Cheers!
-
OSE is not an end all be all for links. They only gather a certain number links and data.
You're already using screaming frog to get this data, so that should be accurate. You can also check Google Webmaster Tools, which has a section called "Internal Links".

Unsolved Why Links Overview is showing '0' "Internal, followed links" when we have many?
Hi, Our site is showing '0' internal links on Links Overview when all other metrics appear to be updating correctly. Any idea why might this be happening? Or are there any issues with the MOZ getting the data from our site when it does a crawl?

Unsolved Thousands of links with same IP address found in backlinks
Hey, While researching the backlinks of a client's website I found around 3000 links with the structure: http://54.201.231.138/page. The IP doesn't seem to be of their website and the MOZ Spam score for the domain is 1%. Wondering what these links are and if they're a big problem? Thank you in advance. Warmly,

What does "Number of Linking Root Domains" in Open Site Explorer actually mean?
I've read through the forum, but I'm confused as to what "Number of Linking Root Domains" means in the Linking Domains report. For example, if the root domain is Moz.com and the number is 135,000 does that mean there are 135,000 links from Moz pointing back to my site or does it mean there are 135,000 sites linking back to Moz? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

None of the pages crawled contain an email address or links to a social profile...
I'm trying to reduce the amount of spam flags our website has using the Open Site Explorer tool. Currently, we have 2/17 flags based on: Large Site with Few Links - We found very few sites linking to this site, considering its size No Contact Info - None of the pages crawled contain an email address or links to a social profile The "few links" can be ignored, we're working on this. We don't have a visible email address on the website and we don't particularly want one. We prefer customers to fill out our online form or to call us. Moz say "none of the pages crawled contain an email address OR links to a social profile" - we do have social buttons on every page of the website, but these are official Facebook and Twitter buttons that are rendered with Javascript, so don't actually appear in the page source on load. If we replace these with actual links to our pages using Facebook and Twitter icons, will this flag be removed since Moz are saying "or links to a social profile" - making it sound optional. Thanks!

Does Feedburner URL of the Home Page Carry Link Equity?
Hi There, During an SEO Audit, I found that OSE categorizes Feedburner URL of root domains under link-equity passing and followed. For example, the following link has been categorized under link-equity passing and followed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/SpoonflowerBlog I have heard that a lot of SEOs saying feedburner links don't carry any link juice. If that's true, then why does OSE categorize feedburner URL of root domains under link-equity passing and followed? I would appreciate if someone from the Moz staff could take some to answer this. Thanks.
