Google displaying "Items 1-9" before the description in the Search Results
-
We see our pages coming up in Google with the category page/product numbers in front of our descriptions. For example: Items 1 - 24 of 86 (and than the descriptions follows).
Our website is magento based. Is there a fix for this that anyone knows of?
Is there method of stopping Google from adding this on to the front of our Meta Description?

Hi there, thanks for your question! Has it been answered? We'd love an update on this issue, thanks!!

In Webmaster tools, are there many duplicate descriptions?
What do you mean by losing all the existing URLs?
Yes we do, you can contact me on my profile for further action on this.

In our webmasters tools, I do see many duplicated page issues...What would be an easy fix?
Would we lose all the existing URL's?
Also Rene, perhaps inappropriate to ask in this Q and A section, but do you also offer
offer services to fix these issues for companies? Often I get great advise, but wouldnt
know where to start implementing it, and our web developer is great, but not very
SEO knowledgeable...

Well it should be empty, but I don't see any problems with this page in particular: http://www.dutchgrown.com/fall-planted-bulbs/tulips/tulip-arma.html
""
Are there a description that you could show me which contains the prefix? By the way, you should be careful using the category option for your products. Especially with Magento, you can run into Duplicate Content issues when you have the category as a part of the product URL.

website is http://tinyurl.com/lbldnba

Dear Rene,
Thank you for responding.
I did not see Search Engine Optimization listed under: System => Configuration => Catalog => Search Engine Optimization?
However, I was able to go to the sidewide settings shown in your screenshot.
My "Title Prefix" and "Title Suffix" and "Default Description" are empty right now.Do you recommend putting in a default description?
-
Do you mean that Magento adds a prefix on your meta descriptions? Or do you mean that the category is included in the URL?
Just wanted to make sure that I understand it correctly, and I think that you ask about the meta description tag. Have you taken a look at the meta description field in System => Configuration => Catalog => Search Engine Optimization?
You could also take a look at the sidewide settings for the tags: http://www.screenpages.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Generall-Config2-580x324.png
What is your URL?

Need Help On Proper Steps to Take To De-Index Our Search Results Pages
So, I have finally decided to remove our Search Results pages from Google. This is a big dealio, but our traffic has consistently been declining since 2012 and it's the only thing I can think of. So, the reason they got indexed is back in 2012, we put linked tags on our product pages, but they linked to our search results pages. So, over time we had hundreds of thousands of search results pages indexed. By tag pages I mean: Keywords: Kittens, Doggies, Monkeys, Dog-Monkeys, Kitten-Doggies Each of these would be linked to our search results pages, i.e. http://oursite.com/Search.html?text=Kitten-Doggies So, I really think these pages being indexed are causing much of our traffic problems as there are many more Search Pages indexed than actual product pages. So, my question is... Should I go ahead and remove the links/tags on the product pages first? OR... If I remove those, will Google then not be able to re-crawl all of the search results pages that it has indexed? Or, if those links are gone will it notice that they are gone, and therefore remove the search results pages they were previously pointing to? So, Should I remove the links/tags from the product page (or at least decrease them down to the top 8 or so) as well as add the no-follow no-index to all the Search Results pages at the same time? OR, should I first no-index, no-follow ALL the search results pages and leave those tags on the product pages there to give Google a chance to go back and follow those tags to all of the Search Results pages so that it can get to all of those Search Results pages in order to noindex,. no follow them? Otherwise will Google not be able find these pages? Can someone comment on what might be the best, safest, or fastest route? Thanks so much for any help you might offer me!! Craig So, I wanted to see if you have a suggestion on the best way to handle it? Should I remove the links/tags from the product page (or at least decrease them down to the top 8 or so) as well as add the no-follow no-index to all the Search Results pages at the same time? Google Enterprise Search Questions
Hi Everybody, A client has asked me to take a look at Google Enterprise Search for them. It has been a few years since I last fooled around with implementing a Google search box on a website, and that was the free version which included off-site results in the results. This appears to be the main page describing the paid product: http://www.google.com/enterprise/search/ I have three questions: The search testing function on the above page doesn't seem to be working. I'm typing in a URL and search term, as prompted, and the page is simply refreshing. It never provides me an example set of results. Is it working for you? This client has a moderately large e-commerce site (about 200 products). Have you implemented Google enterprise search on such a site and are you happy with its performance? The goal here is to let users search for a topic and be returned both product and informational pages. How well does this tool do this? Am I going to need to know any special types of coding (beyond html/css) to implement this? If so, what are they? If you have experience with this product, I would surely appreciate your feedback. Thank you!

Noindex search result pages Add Classifieds site
Dear All, Is it a good idea to noindex the search result pages of a classified site?
Technical SEO | | te_c
Taking into account that category pages are also search result pages, I would say it is not a good idea, but the whole information is in the sitemap, google can index individual listings (which are index, follow) anyway. What would you do? What kind of effects has in the indexing of the site, marking the search result pages as "search results" with schema.org microdata? Many thanks for your help, Best Regards, Daniel0 -

Different pages first results on same keyword search
Hi, Sometimes Google does not show the page you intended for a certain keyword. Logically you would say that the intended page is not relevant/strong enough. But in my case several pages ranked fine for a long period of time and all of a sudden another less important page gets the highest result on a keyword search. (We are in the camping business) For instance: One of our campsites called Tenuta primero used to rank position 9 in google with page below for a long time (search: 'camping tenuta primero') This was the page we intended to rank with. http://www.suncamp.nl/nl/nl/campings/italie/friuli-venezia-giulia/camping-tenuta-primero/uc19-l1-n797-c13-r115-cp104959/ Now all of a sudden the position for search 'camping tenuta primero' is position 33 with review page below. http://www.suncamp.nl/nl/nl/campings/italie/friuli-venezia-giulia/camping-tenuta-primero/beoordelingen/uc19-l1-n797-c13-r115-cp104959-t22598/ What could have caused this? Pages are in Dutch but main keywords are camping are tenuta primero. Thank you very much in advance! Kind regards, Dennis Overbeek Dennis@acsi.eu | www.suncamp.nl |
