Moving from Bigcommerce to Woocommerce on WP. Should we redirect size pages into one page?
-
We are moving from Bigcommerce to Woocommerce on WP. On Bigcommerce, due to some bizarre reasoning the previous developer had 3 separate URLS for the same product in different sizes - S, M and L. Now we plan to have one product page where the sizes can be selected and 301 redirect the 3 urls to the new one.
Is this advisable? Or should we just have 3 separate pages. OR should we have one of the sizes pages as the new page and then redirect the other 2 to this one?
I ask this because the site has a LOT of ranking power and we do not want to jeopardise that.

I found http://litextension.com/woocommerce-migration-tool/bigcommerce-to-woocommerce.html allows to migrate products and categories SEO URLs and migrate 301 SEO URLs of categories and products. It can a solution to keep ranking power.

Thank you Jacob. Makes a lot of sense.
Each product - i.e fabric, has up to 6 pages (S, M, L, A, F, Q) with essentially the exact same content (except for the word small, medium, large etc changed) and that too have very small descriptions. For some odd reason, when searching for a keyword, sometimes up to 3 of these pages are in the top 3 rankings! For a majority of them the medium pages are on top.
I used the site explorer on a few of the pages and notice that the medium pages have a page authority of 11/100 while the domain authority is at 26/100. The small pages have 1/100 PA.
So, I am thinking that we make the medium pages as the main product page (luckily the page urls have an SKU code and not text such as "medium-product-page" so in terms of user experience I think it would not be too bad) and 301 redirect the other sizes to the medium page.

First a little clarification:
You mention that the site has a LOT of ranking power (which is awesome, congrats!) But how do the pages that you're working with factor into this ranking power? Are there are lot of links being sent to these pages? Have they been shared a lot via social media? Are they your top pages on your website? The point I'm trying to get at is that unless a page is a "actively contributing" to your ranking power then you won't jeopardize your websites overall ranking power if you kill those pages.
Now if those pages are bringing in links and actively contributing to your overall ranking power (if those pages themselves are showing up in the SERPS for high performing keywords) then yes you should be doing 301's to the new page.
If it doesn't harm your user experience I think recycling one of those previously used urls would be great (especially if it has ranking power). If it hurts user experience or there's no real ranking power connected to any of the previously used pages then I would just create the new page and do the 301's.
Hopefully that helps!

Product Page Links
I have a product category page at https://www.hurtlegear.com.au/s1000rr/ which currently has 38 products on it. Problem is, all the product titles start with the name of the text: "bmw s1000rr" (because that's what they are) - so that means there are 38 anchored internal links on that page, all starting with the same keyword. You can see how that might look to the Google crawler. Recently that page dropped from around 15 to outside the top 100, and Moz tells me that the page is keyword stuffed with "bmw s1000rr" (no suprise) so I'm guessing that may be the reason the page has disappeared out of the SERPs. I don't really want to change all the product titles (then they wouldn't make sense) so I'm just wondering if there is any way around this? Is there some way of telling Google that this is a product category page and therefore to ignore the anchor text in all of those product links? Can/should the links have some kind of markup on them? Or is the page beyond help? Basically I'm looking at a way of keeping the product titles as they are, but avoiding a page penalty from Google somehow. I'm a bit of a newbie, any suggestions would be most appreciated. Cheers, Graeme

2 Similar Pages
Hello, I have two very similar pages. The first page is an apartment rental page with a map, rental listings and some neighborhood data below. The neighborhood data includes useful info about the area with photos, text about the area, crime rates, avg. rental rates, etc. The second page is a neighbourhood guide that includes virtually the same data as the rental page, but in longer form ie. more photos, more text, etc. I want the rental page to rank, while ranking the neighborhood page is not important as it would be used more for link bait. But since the information on the two pages is the same, I don't want them to compete with each other. I'm thinking of putting a cannonical tag on the neighborhood page pointing back to the rental page. Is that the correct thing to do in this instance? Thanks for your help. J

302 redirections warnings
Hi there, the SEOMOZ crawler has detected some warinings related to the 302 temporary redirections. Example: http://www.tarifakitesurfcamp.com/tks-camp/alojamiento/ redirects to www.tarifakeitesurfcamp.com/error-404 I have made some 301 redirections, located at the end of the final (inicially) and later I just moved them to the top of the file. The htaccess file content is: redirect 301 http://www.tarifakitesurfcamp.com/tks-camp/escuela/ http://www.tarifakitesurfcamp.com/gisela-pulido-escuela/

Page Title
My website was hacked last November and then again last week. Prior to the hacking we were at number one in Google.co.uk for our main search term "nile cruises' for years. After last November's hacking we dropped to about position 4 and after last week we are at position 7. Ima rebuilding the lost data and I am having to create new Title and Description meta data for each of the indexed pages. I am taking the opportunity to try and ensure my titles and descriptions are good and the correct length, etc but wondered about the best title format. I set our home page title over the weekend as: Nile Cruise | Leading ABTA & ATOL Bonded UK Nile Cruise Specialist I was going to try and cover 3 keyphrases in the title like this: Nile Cruise | Nile Cruises | Nile Cruise Bargains But I thought that might look a bit spammy because the 3 phrases are very similar. I wondered what anyone else might suggest? Thanks, Colin

Exstinguishing Page Rank?
Hi Guys, Here is a thought. Google gives more weight to links in content, less to navigation etc.. Therefore if they say give 50% of a pages rank to a link within content and 50% to the the other elements. What happens to the total pagerank from a page if you have not utilized in page content links? (is it lost) If this is the case, and you have a site that does not use content links on every page, are you loosing value (and hard earned) pagerank. Google did mention sometime back about pagerank being exstinguished with the nofollow tag. I would be interested to hear what others think? Cheers Scott

Missing meta descriptions on indexed pages, portfolio, tags, author and archive pages. I am using SEO all in one, any advice?
I am having a few problems that I can't seem to work out.....I am fairly new to this and can't seem to work out the following: Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂 1. I am missing alot of meta description tags. I have installed "All in One SEO" but there seems to be no options to add meta descriptions in portfolio posts. I have also written meta descriptions for 'tags' and whilst I can see them in WP they don't seem to be activated. 2. The blog has pages indexed by WP- called Part 2 (/page/2), Part 3 (/page/3) etc. How do I solve this issue of meta descriptions and indexed pages? 3. There is also a page for myself, the author, that has multiple indexes for all the blog posts I have written, and I can't edit these archives to add meta descriptions. This also applies to the month archives for the blog. 4. Also, SEOmoz tells me that I have too many links on my blog page (also indexed) and their consequent tags. This also applies to the author pages (myself ). How do I fix this? Thanks for your help 🙂 Regards Nadia
