Hey there, i'm working on search results in dutch.
-
My biggest competitor who's number 1 in main keywords in google has almost only links from 'linkfarms' and blog comments. How is he ranked that high? Would it be a good idea to add a bit the best of these in my mix, while i work on the real good quality content?
-
As long as those guest posts are well-placed on respected, topical sites, that could help. You just have to make sure your contributions to those sites are genuinely relevant to their audiences.
-
Welcome to Dutch link building, overall the quality of links is way lower than the averages in other countries. In some cases the low quality links are still seen as more high quality. We've still got some very popular link farms/ directories that in any other country would directly end up in your disavow file.
-
Could be! Its just when i use moz, to discover there best links some high quality 'link pages' come up. They do have a couple of others pretty good links could be that i quess. Would doing 2-3 guest posts be okay?
-
Thank you, i did miss that!

Hi Wouter,
I would say that you don't want to be following in what they are doing. There might be other reasons why they are doing so well, but without seeing the site, it is almost impossible to say why.
Perhaps their content is considered exceptionally good - perhaps they have a few non-spammy links that are really high quality? - Perhaps they have more trust gained from Google?
Remember that Google will ignore a lot of the spammy links from directories and blog comments. Look past the links if you want to see what is going on as there may be something else.

Hello, my friend.
I have noticed the same thing happening to our website and our clients' websites. As you said, we see lots of bad/spammy links to our competitors and they rank high (not always higher though). Well, I asked this question here: https://moz.com/community/q/spammy-backlinks-are-working
After reading all that + just using common sense + a bit of hope for intelligence of Google updates, I just didn't have enough guts to risk the rankings we achieved so far and reputation of the domain.
So, as it's said in responses in that discussion, if you're willing to see your website get messed up in case everything goes south, you're more than welcome. Just write a case study/research after that for curious minds like me

How-to: Geography Based Search Results for Job Board
Hi, I’m working with a client that is building a job board website. We want to have the ability to show search results in Google that show job results for a specific area. For example, “Office Administrator Jobs in Chicago” or “Marketing Assistant Positions in Cleveland”. How can we go about setting this up? Do I need to create a separate landing page for each of these exact searches? Or can this be done with a taxonomy or the job search function? This is a WordPress built website and we're using the Yoast SEO plugin. Any help would be appreciated!

Making Filtered Search Results Pages Crawlable on an eCommerce Site
Hi Moz Community! Most of the category & sub-category pages on one of our client's ecommerce site are actually filtered internal search results pages. They can configure their CMS for these filtered cat/sub-cat pages to have unique meta titles & meta descriptions, but currently they can't apply custom H1s, URLs or breadcrumbs to filtered pages. We're debating whether 2 out of 5 areas for keyword optimization is enough for Google to crawl these pages and rank them for the keywords they are being optimized for, or if we really need three or more areas covered on these pages as well to make them truly crawlable (i.e. custom H1s, URLs and/or breadcrumbs)…what do you think? Thank you for your time & support, community!

Why is this page not being delivered for Google search result?
Hey folks, Figured I would try to get an experts insight on this. On google search result for BLACK TITANIUM RINGS + TITANIUM-JEWELRY.COM the page that I "think" should show up is this one: http://www.titanium-jewelry.com/black-titanium-rings.html However, it does not. Imho, this page is highly relevant. I used Rank Tracker here on seomoz.org and the page is not even in top 50 of search engine results for google. Our 'About Black Titanium Rings' page ranks #2 (http://www.titanium-jewelry.com/about-black-titanium.html) but the /black-titanium-rings.html page doesn't even rank. Any suggestions on what I could look at to figure out why this page is being penalized? We are not under a manual penalty (anymore!). Thanks! Ron

Local Search Results Tanked My 1st Page Ranking
My site was routinely ranking in the top 2-3 in Google for my relevant search terms. Then I started working on my local SEO. Now I'm in the map list at 1-2, but my site no longer shows up with the rest of the search results. I've heard that this has been happening to other local businesses with a big Google presence. I'm thinking that I should create some micro sites for each location listing that gives a location specific intro and then links to my main site. Then I can sever my main site from Google places. Here are my two questions: 1) Is this going to kill my placement in the map results; and, How long will it take for my main site to get back to its 2-3 spot rankings in Google's regular results?

Strange issue with video search results...
Hi all, Got a bit of a weird problem that I can't work out. I've got a page that contains a video. The SERP for one keyword has the video appearing directly in the search listing like a video rich snippet / schema. Do not want. This rich snippet style video result only appears when the page is found for this one keyword, and no other. How do I stop google displaying the page like this? Why is it only displayed like this for one keyword and no others? The video is a YouTube video and is embedded in the page. Nothing fancy is going on with the code. Any ideas? I'm stumped.
