How do I deal with /mobile/ page after responsive re-design?
-
Hi guys,
One of our clients used to have a website that would redirect mobile traffic to a /mobile/ page.
Thankfully we've finally gone fully responsive and there is no need for this /mobile/ page.
Trouble is, www.clientsite.com.au**/mobile/** is still in the Google index and going to a 404 right now.
What is the best way to deal with it? Should we be 301 redirecting /mobile/ to / (the home page)?
Would be most grateful for any ideas.
Thanks!

Yep, there are no pages below /mobile/ so it should be all good. Thanks.

Remember: if any page inside /mobile/ match with another page than the home, you should redirect it to the right page, as Aaron said, not redirect all the folder to the home. E.g.
/mobile/page-about-vegetarian-food > /vegerarian-food

Hi Aaron,
The /mobile page is ranking. Am trying to get the developer to 301 just the /mobile page to the home page. Will see how it goes.

First how long has it been since you moved the site off mobile?
Is the /mobile pages ranking or is it only when you search for them?
I personally would set up 301s for each page to the new page. Not 301 all of it back to the home page.

How come only 2 pages of my 16 page infographic are being crawled by Moz?
Our Infographic titled "What Is Coaching" was officially launched 5 weeks ago. http://whatiscoaching.erickson.edu/ We set up campaigns in Moz & Google Analytics to track its performance. Moz is reporting No organic traffic and is only crawling 2 of the 16 pages we created. (see first and third attachments) Google Analytics is seeing hundreds of some very strange random pages (see second attachment) Both campaigns are tracking the url above. We have no idea where we've gone wrong. Please help!! 16_pages_seen_in_wordpress.png how_google_analytics_sees_pages.png what_moz_sees.png

Should we re-use our old re-directed domain for a new wesbite ?
Hi One our clients has an old domain that has been redirected to another website of his. Now he is asking us to build a new website for that domain and direct it back. This is new website will be very relative to it's own old content and where it has been re-directed recently. I guess the only benefit of this would be taking advantage of the age of this domain. Do you recommend doing that or getting him a new domain ?

Meta data & xml sitemaps for mobile sites when using rel="canonical"/rel="alternate" annotations
When using rel="canonical" and rel="alternate" annotations between mobile and desktop sites (rel="canonical" on mobile, pointing to desktop, and rel="alternate" on desktop pointing to mobile), what are everyone's thoughts on using meta data on the mobile site? Is it necessary? And also, what is the common consensus on using a separate mobile xml sitemap?

Is it possibly to use anything besides a 302 re-direct when your doing a re-direct for someone to login?
Hopefully this makes sense. So I am working on a site that uses a 302 re-direct for logins. As in it goes from a profile page to the login via a re-direct, most of the time I see sites use this as a meta refresh, but in this case I wasn't sure. Obviously when I run a crawl diagnostic I'm getting a lot of errors as in over 100. Now I know there is no link juice with this, but I was just wondering what other people thought on using 302's for logins? Thanks
