Are there any strategies (Moz-specific or other) on how to improve the Total Links metric against competitors?
-
In competitive link metrics, our client is doing very well in every metric against every competitor except in Total Links against one competitor in particular. Wondering how to improve this metric against this one competitor. Any strategies, whether MOZ-specific or other that can boost this metric? Thanks.

Thanks all. I'll check out the guide.

Agreed! Joseph, depending on how well you're already meeting your goals, you may not want to get too hung up on that one metric.
That said, the only way to raise your total link count is to earn some more links. As Justin noted, there are plenty of less-than-legitimate ways to do that, but if you use them you have to expect a penalty sooner or later. It's not worth it. If you haven't, I'd recommend checking out our Beginner's Guide to Link Building, which has a lot of sustainable, legitimate ideas.

First off, I assume you understand that quantity of links, a.k.a a higher Total Link, is not necessarily a recommended practice in SEO any longer. It is now more importantly about the quality of the links. I outrank competitors who have many more links than my client, but it is due to our quality of link profile, website speed, technical seo, onpage seo, and certainly not the Total Link. If you do want to quickly increase your total links, maybe an infographic, viral social, buy them, or pbn it and create your own, all of which are questionable, except for maybe the infographic.

Moz can't see my link from an external site
Hi, I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this. I've had a followed link created from http://www.dubaisharks.com/ pointing to my website - http://www.yallarugby.com but in the reports it doesn't show that there is a link coming fro this website. The link has been active for a few months now, but still no record of it. Any ideas?

No internal links showing up in OpenSiteExplorer report
Hi there A simple one. I was just looking at our site in opensiteexplorer and notice that it says we have no internal links at all: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s244/sh/dd8cc88f-fee4-4ba2-8ec0-f3f8d5c408db/8d3fc3d2aa6fc9d5406051bc91731402 Rather odd as we do. Is this a bug with OSE that anyone knows about or something else? Any ideas / thoughts gratefully received.

Optimising for a specific location
Hello, I think I know the answer to this but I'm sure there's more to be told. If I optimised a site for a particular city and keyword, let say bespoke kitchens Edinburgh. Do I really need to add the Edinburgh word in if I am mentioning Edinburgh in a different context on other parts of the site? So I would just be using and optimising for bespoke kitchens which is a far easier phrase to fit organically into written text. The Edinburgh (location) word would be mentioned but in different sections of the text, I might even use Glasgow & Fife (other catchment area locations) Would search engines then still rank me for searches for "bespoke Kitchens" searched for by someone from Edinburgh or does it need to read "bespoke kitchens edinburgh"? Thanks for you help.

Broken links in the pdf of the On Page Report
Hi, I run an individual On Page report for a particular URL, then I export as pdf. The URL appears in the pdf and looks fine but when you click on it it goes to a 'page not found'. I know the URL is correct. When I hover over the URL in the pdf i notice that the word 'Good' is at the end of my URL but I did not put this in there. if I give the report to a client it doesn't look so good. http://www.narellanpools.com.au/local-contact/narellan-pools-alburywodongaGood Is this a bug? OSE Advanced for specific directory only?
Pls how do I set up Open Site Explorer Advanced to look for backlinks to files in ONLY a certain directory? so if the domain is 1234.com, I don't care about links to 1234.com. OSE can find those very neatly! What I do care about is ONLY links to 1234.com/profiles and I can't seem to figure out a way to do this. the /profiles directory has thousands of profiles in it - and we think we have hundreds of thousands of backlinks - so ideally, I'd like to use regex or DOS like filtering to look at only those which start with 9 or 8 or whatever.
