How can we get follow links from Pinterest and Instagram
-
While using Open Site Explorer from Moz I came across follow links from Instagram and Pinterest.
Now my question is how can we get follow links from Pinterest and Instagram
-
Hi Paddy,
Agree on the spam part. Though Pinterest used to have followed links initially. I checked that for one of the company using Moz Open Site Explorer. However it doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
All the links now have become no follow.
Will research a bit more on this and will keep you posted.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Anup,
The standard way to get links from social websites such as Pinterest and Instagram is via a profile page. For example, here is the Adidas Football page on Instagram:
https://www.instagram.com/adidasfootball/
As you'll see, there is a link in the bio which, at the time of writing, goes to a YouTube video. But if you look at the source code of the page, this link is tagged with rel="nofollow me". The nofollow part tells Google and other search engines that this link isn't trusted and therefore shouldn't pass PageRank. You can read more on nofollow here:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/96569?hl=en
The "me" part tells Google that the target of the link is directly associated to you. In the Adidas example, they link from their own Instagram page to their own YouTube channel. So this indicates to the search engines that the pages are linked together which can help them figure out which pages are the official ones of Adidas. You can read more about rel="me" here:
http://www.smartinsights.com/search-engine-optimisation-seo/index-inclusion/google-rel-me/
On the Adidas Pinterest page here:
https://www.pinterest.com/adidas/
You can see a link to Adidas.com. Again, if you look at the source code, you'll see that this link is tagged with rel="nofollow".
So overall, you can't really get followed links from these platforms because if you could, they'd open themselves up to spam where people would create thousands of fake profiles just to get links.
I hope that helps.
Paddy

Links don't add up
Sorry if this is obvious, but I'm new to seomoz. I've run an analysis for one of my pages and it's showing 624 total links - 118 internal and 6 external. Why doesn't the sum of the internal and external links equal the total links?

How do I get a link in my blog bio signature on my Youmoz posts?
I've done several Youmoz posts and only recently noticed for some reason that other authors have included author links and links to their websites in their bio section at the end. I edited mine with a full URL but it only shows up as text. No editor there when you edit your profile so no way of adding a link. Anyone know how this is done?

Canonical link on canonical url
This might seem a bit of an odd one, but we seem to be going around in circles on this when using the on page optimizer tool. We have an ecommerce site (magento) which by default is putting a canonical link in the header on every product page. For example; www.example.com/product1.html has the But when we run the on page optimiser tool, we're losing points on the critical section for not having canonical set correctly. If we remove the tag, we get the tick and the a grade, but then further down the report we lose a tick for not using canonical links. What are we missing here?

How can I recognize spammy links that harm my website
Hello, Can someone tell me how I can recognize links that can harm my website? I have OpenSiteExplorer and CognitiveSEO as tools to create nice backlinking reports for me. But my problem is, how do I know if a link shown on these reports can harm my website so I can remove them? Is it linktypes, low auth. links etc? Thank you for your answers in advance! Another link profile tool available
SEOMoz Link Analysis tool apparently doesn't have any info on my clients site - www.tricitymech.com according to the response from Open Site Explorer. Is there a free tool available that doesn't use OSE that you could recommend?

Competitive Link finder tool
I tried to use competitive link finder tool. it says that it will identify 10 most important links that my competitor get that I do not. The results that I get are inconsistent with linkscape tool. For example my competitor has a link on www lawyer-links dot info Google rank of that site is 1. Is that really one of their most important links?

What are no followed links?
Hi there, probably this is so self explaining that I didn't find it described in the tutorial about learning to use PRO or here in Q&Α. But remember, there is no dumb question 🙂 What are the followed vs no followed links? I understand followed links as backlinks to my site, but what is a no followed link? Thank you in advance!
