In Wordpress getting marked as duplicate content for tags
-
Moz is marking 11 high priority items for duplicate content. Just switched to wordpress and publishing articles for the site but only have a few. The problem is on the tag pages. Since there aren't very many articles so when you go to the tag pages it lists one or two articles and hence there are pages with duplicate content. Most of the articles have the same tags / categories.
Perhaps I'm using too many tags and categories? I'm using about 7 tags and around 2 categories for each post / event.
I've read the solution is using canonical tags but a little confused on which page I should use for the tag and then I believe I need to point the duplicate pages to the correct page.
For example, I have two events that are for dances and both have the same tags. So when you visit, site.com/tags/dance or site.com/events both pages have the same articles listed. Which page do I select as having the original content? Does it matter? Does that make sense?
Someone was also saying I could use the Yoast plugin to fix, but not really seeing anything in the Yoast tools. I also see 301 redirects mentioned as a solution but the tag pages will be changing as we add new articles and they have a purpose so not really seeing that as a solution.

Thanks that's what we ended up doing with Yoast.

For what it's worth, our advice for this is generally to noindex the tag pages, as they're generally not pages that need to rank.
-
I agree with Peter.
But, I believe that you have the problem that your tags are indexing and shouldn't be. Check out the config in the YOAST plugin and check to non-index.
This is the YOAST Tutorial: LINK.Hope it helps.

We just talk about this today here:
https://moz.com/community/q/default-robots-txt-in-wordpress-should-i-change-itAnd here are Yoast configuration settings:
https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/meta-robots-wordpress-plugin/
https://yoast.com/prevent-site-being-indexed/Since WordPress robots.txt is "virtual" file you need to create new file in root folder of site (usually this is same WP folder) and create that file. This is only where you need to edit it.

How import are breadcrumbs SEO wise on a wordpress blog?
I was recently told I should take the breadcrumbs off of our site, for if no other reason than that it would look much nicer, and I tend to agree. I was curious how much seo weight breadcrumbs add to a site, and if I would take a big hit if I removed them... Thanks!

Wordpress Frameworks for SEO - Genesis - Does it Get Any Better?
I'm sure there's a ton of people in this community running Wordpress, any Genesis developers/users out there? For anybody who doesn't know, Genesis is a parent framework for building wordpress child themes. It saves a ton of time for people that aren't too handy w/ php (like me). I'm working on a few sites locally with it right now, and it's really impressive. I'm seriously never planning on using another WP framework. It also integrates perfectly with Yoast SEO, which is something not all frameworks do. So I thought I'd try to get some input from the community here, anybody have another framework they like? Or have an opinion on the SEO benefit of genesis? Would love to hear...

Does it do harm if you add a rel="canonical" tag on a page that doesn't need it?
If a page is clearly unique and there is obviously no canonical tag needed, does it hurt anything if one has been added?

H1 tag optimization question
Hey folks, I've got a question about h1 coding. Our H1 tags are currently coded like this: [http://www.rapitup.com/mf-doom](<a href=)" class=" current">MF Doom Do you think this would be better? [http://www.rapitup.com/mf-doom](<a href=)" class=" current"> MF Doom My guess is that the second example would be better, and even if not better we know it's not worse. Thoughts? Thanks!

Does Google follow links inside a <noscript>tag?</noscript>
I'm looking at making an embedable calculator and asking users to embed it to their website. I had the idea of using javascript to include the calculator which would also conatain a text link back to my site in order to gain some back links. If it's possible Google won't see the link (as they may not execute the javascript), is it safe to place the link in the <noscript>tag? If so, Will it be indexed and will Page Rank be passed?</span></p> <p>Thanks in advance for your answers. </p> <p>Anthony</p> <p><span style="color: #5e5e5e;"><br /></span></p></noscript>

Using "#" anchors to display different content
If I have a page that has an area on the page that acts like a widget and has three different tabs. These tabs provide 3 different types of information relevant to the page subject matter. By default when someone goes to the page one of the tabs is showing but you have to click on the others to see the info on them. Is it OK to use domain.com/topic#TAB1, domain.com/topic#TAB2, domain.com/topic#TAB3 to create shortcut links so that people can land on the page and have that predetermined tab showing. I'm wondering what search engines might think. Essentially all the content of all three tabs is there for people to see but they'd have to click to see the other tabs. I don't consider the content to be hidden. But I'd like to hear people's thoughts.
