Website was hacked and is clean now. What to do next for Google?
-
Hai All,
Website was hacked and is clean now. What to do next?
- Send a Reconsideration Request to Google through Google search console. How detailed should this request be? As detailed as possible? And how much time will it usually take before Google responds?
- Should I remove all infected URL’s that Google has indexed by using Google search console, remove URL’s? Or is this not necessary?
(All the infected URL’s will give a 404 statuscode now)
Regards, Maurice

Hi Travis and Chris,
Thanks a lot for your helpfull answers!
We got a manual action by Google because of all the infected URL's.
The website is clean now and 2 professionals are monitoring the website continiously. So I am confident it will stay clean.
I have all the information now for the reconsidiration request.
Thanks again!
Regards, Maurice

TL;DR Follow Google's Guide on Recovering a Hacked Site
Orrrrr.... deze.
First, are you 100% sure it's clean? Some people get lucky, and have a clean backup. Others aren't so lucky.
Some hacks come in 'low and slow'. In other words, the site could have been compromised well before any outward signs became apparent. So definitely consult a security professional, if you haven't already done so. (Sometimes your host will 'clean' it for you, but miss critical points, and you're back in the same spot later.)
I suppose it couldn't hurt to remove URLs created by the hack. But if they're all gone, resolving as 404 ,they will drop out of the index in a couple weeks or sooner. The main thing is that the site is clean.
If you're sure it's clean, submit the site for review. The guides I've linked mention that it will take several weeks. And once Google has determined the site is clean, you should see any of the 'hacked' and/or 'malware' snippets disappear within a few days.
And I seriously recommend having a security professional review the site and hosting. A security professional will not only help you determine the cause of the problem, but also with mitigation of future risks. Best of luck.

Hi Maurice,
To answer this one accurately, we'll need a little more info on what happened. What was changed on your site as a result of the hacking? Were you hit with a manual penalty or is it just algorithmic? What have you done about fixing it so far?
With that info I can be a little more helpful
For some broader advice though, do everything you can to restore your site to its original state and if it has been a manual penalty, definitely provide a detailed account of what happened and what you're doing to fix it via Search Console. If it's just algorithmic, fixing your site and continuing to improve it is going to be your best way to fix it.
Regarding the pages that have been taken down, just make sure Screaming Frog or a similar tool isn't picking up any 404s from them - if it sees no 404s it means there are no remaining internal links to those pages. That being the case, the only 404s will be from external sites which aren't your responsibility. Once this is done, Google will realise fairly quickly (hours to a couple of weeks) that they're actually gone and de-index them.

Single topic website or as part of a multiple topic website?
I have content sitting on a site here - https://www.pfizerpro.co.uk/product/xeljanz/rheumatoid-arthritis - domain authority 25 page authority 18 - the pages went live three months ago and the website was launched 18 months. We now have the option to use a brand new domain www.xeljanz.co.uk Which is the better option to stick with the www.pfizerpro.co.uk as it is a larger multiple topic site that should attract more links or to start a new single topic site which google may view as the better source as it is dedicated to the topic? Thanks

Video SEO for Google
I was wondering what the prime factors were to make something rank for a video on Google. Does anyone have any suggestions? I think that length may be important, but I don't know what the ideal run time is. Hypothetically for local SEO, would I be better off doing a tag like "Mercedes Buffalo NY" or do individual tags of "Mercedes" and "Buffalo" Thanks!

API to power all websites
I spoke to one of my lead web developers and we are planning on powering all of our desktop, mobile and tablet sites with our new API. Everything will be populated through javascript and is cloud-based rather than through actual HTML. How do we incorporate all of our SEO?

Splitting one Website into 2 Different New Websites with 301 redirects, help?
Here's the deal. My website stbands.com does fairly well. The only issue it is facing a long term branding crisis. It sells custom products and sporting goods. We decided that we want to make a sporting goods website for the retail stuff and then a custom site only focusing on the custom stuff. One website transformed and broken into 2 new ones, with two new brand names. The way we are thinking about doing this is doing a lot of 301 redirects, but what do we do with the homepage (stbands.com) and what is the best practice to make sure we don't lose traffic to the categories, etc.? Which new website do we 301 the homepage to? It's rough because for some keywords we rank 3 or 4 times on the first page. Scary times, but something must be done for the long term. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. We are set for a busy next few months 🙂

Do you bother cleaning duplicate content from Googles Index?
Hi, I'm in the process of instructing developers to stop producing duplicate content, however a lot of duplicate content is already in Google's Index and I'm wondering if I should bother getting it removed... I'd appreciate it if you could let me know what you'd do... For example one 'type' of page is being crawled thousands of times, but it only has 7 instances in the index which don't rank for anything. For this example I'm thinking of just stopping Google from accessing that page 'type'. Do you think this is right? Do you normally meta NoIndex, follow the page, wait for the pages to be removed from Google's Index, and then stop the duplicate content from being crawled? Or do you just stop the pages from being crawled and let Google sort out its own Index in its own time? Thanks FashionLux

Google omitting some entries
Hi, I used this tool to test some domains. The tool can be found at http://www.virante.com/seo-tools/duplicate-content I have no questions about the other checks but with the similarity check. My question is how do i get Google not to omit some entries very similar to the top 1000 pages on my site? Will appreciate your answers, thanks. Suleman
