Regardless of the specific reasons, the underlying issue is that, for whatever reason, Google sees the homepage as a better result to show folks searching for [car battery] than the car battery page.
I'm seeing a slightly higher page authority for the home page (23 vs. 20 for /car-battery which, granted, isn't all that big of a difference). The total link count is quite different, though—the home page has 68, and /car-battery has 22.
Also, it looks like the content on /car-batter is pretty thin, and doesn't seem like it'd be especially helpful for someone shopping for a car battery. The interface on that page is much less intuitive, as well,
I can't be 100% positive, but if I had to guess I'd say that Google is preferentially serving the home page because it's a better-developed page with a stronger link profile. If you'd like the category-specific pages to be ranking instead, I'd suggest creating a better user experience on those pages and attracting some links to them.
Make sense?

Thanks! Sorry
lets take car battery and search it in google.co.in and go to 2nd page
https://www.google.co.in/?gws_rd=ssl#q=car+battery&start=10
you can see www.powerwale.com,
but we have a page for www.powerwale.com/car-battery (specifically meant for car battery)
Pls suggest wht should I do..

Hi Abdul,
Can you give a little more information regarding the circumstances you are seeing this? If it is any consolation, when I perform a search for the term [inverter battery] in Google.co.in, I see your inverter battery page at the bottom of page 3 (I do not see your homepage ranking). I am performing the search from the UK, with Chrome in an incognito tab.
Adam.

Does my website have a bad rank in google because EMD or lack content ?
Hello, I'm a beginner I just started my website xxx a few days ago. I submitted my url to several good quality directories (about 20, the last 3 days), I tried to write different descriptions for each directory. I have a very bad rank on google results (28+) for keywords "psychologue montluçon" I don't know if it's because of : lack of content, EMD, lack of backlinks (I submitted my website to directories, but its seems it takes a lot of time for updates). Sorry for bad english, if you can help, thank you !

Product Page is Battling with Homepage in SERPs
My product page had been solidly in the middle of the first page for months. Now, it is being replaced by my homepage for the same keywords. I don't understand why this is happening and I'm worried about it, particularly from a business stand-point (we offer a variety of products that appeal to completely different audiences) In terms of SEO, Is this necessarily a problem? What can I do to ensure that Google recognizes that the content that those keywords are tied to is on the product page, not the homepage. One thing I did notice is that the 2nd and 3rd most common anchor text for the links to my homepage are the two keywords in question (they are a distant 2nd and 3rd however). If nothing else, is there a way I can get SeoMoz to recognize the homepage on its page rankings so that my heart doesn't drop once a week. Thanks,

SEO research via Google Adwords
I've read several times of this technique for determining if a particular keyword phrase is worth the effort of optimizing for in organic search. In Adwords create an Ad Group with a single exact match keyword phrase and let it run in Adwords until you have enough clicks to measure valid results (I've often heard 200-300 clicks). If you are unable to convert the search term via paid search, the theory goes, it's probably not worth the effort to rank top 3 for that phrase and you should put your efforts elsewhere. Do any of you use this strategy? If so, have you found the results to be pretty consistently accurate? Thanks, Mark

Is there any sites other then Google Insights which have cataloged search volume for particular queries over time?
I know Google Insights gives this data, but the fact that it's relative to overall search requests make it very difficult to see anything other then obvious trends (Toys sell better in November, go figure?). Each query I've looked up[ is showing degradation over time, but I'm postulating that this has more to do with search volume increasing then with the volume of my queries decreasing.

Google Webmaster Keyword Significance.
In my google webmaster tools the most significant keyword google attaches to my site is word 'VAT' as in, Value Added Tax. Followed by Basket. I can see why this is, as the word VAT and Basket is on every product page, but it really is not a keyword I want to target. Does this have any negative effect on other keywords I am targeting? What should I do about this? Here is the site: https://www.loveelectronics.co.uk
