301 Redirect Question
-
I am working with a website and I ran a Screaming Frog and noticed there are 4,600 301's on the website (www.srishoes.com). It seems like the issue is between the www. and without it and they aren't working together. Is this something that the website provider should update and what type of impact might this have on the site?
Thanks!

Hi Matt,
To answer your question directly, the website provider may or may not handle 301 redirects themselves depending on your agreement with them. If they are responsible for website development and maintenance, then it would likely be their responsibility to ensure the website is running properly. However, the factors behind the use of a redirect mean they may not cover that aspect.
Typically, a redirect is used for re-branding purposes or to direct greater link juice throughout your website. In other words, it is an additional service that likely isn't covered in a contract unless that was the specific purpose of hiring them.
In terms of choosing between the www. and the naked URL version - anyone conducting a 301 redirect should have have been clear to redirect one way or the other as mixing them up creates separate URL link chains. That being said, authority and relevance can still run through your website since you have on-site factors like Title Tags to take care of this. From what you have provided I can agree with Mike in saying there doesn't seem to be much to worry about here with regards to the redirects set up on your website.
Some people like to have consistency across their domain - some like naked URLs and others don't. There are benefits to both decisions, but in terms of what you are asking - the impact will be very small and likely won't hurt you in terms of rankings.
Hope this helps and reach out to me if you have any further questions.
All the best,
Rob

I ran a crawl on screaming frog as well. I don't see a problem with the 301s. They mostly seem to be pointing the non-www page to the www version... assuming you want the WWW version ranking over the non, then everything is fine. As long as everything is pointing to the correct version of the page then you shouldn't have any issues.

301 Redirects
Hello, All. Hopefully this will be an easy question for some of you. I have a (WordPress) site with the format of: http://www.site.com/folder-old/page-old/ I have since re-named both the parent and sub-folders to (example): http://www.site.com/folder-new/page-new/ Everything is working well EXCEPT I am also trying to redirect visitors from the old URL/structure to the new. I have a 301 redirect setup as the following: Redirect 301 /folder-old/page-old/ http://www.site.com/folder-new/page-new/ -- But it doesn't seem to be working. Not sure if this is something finicky with WordPress or if the redirect is incorrect. Thank you.

Hi We have around 10 supplementary sites that have links to our site which are now closing down but are out of our control. We could have access to their domains so how could we maintain the link juice from these old sites which are going to our new site? However there will be no websites left on these old supplementary just domain names

301 redirects don't work properly
Hello all, I've been working on 301 redirects for a bit and normally it's no problem but some seem to be going wrong. Redirect 301 /3-zits.html http://www.bankstellenshop.com/banken/3-zits.html This one works properly but the following one gives a very strange result as it goes to http://www.bankstellenshop.com/bankstellen.html/u (no idea where the .html comes from) Redirect 301 /bankstellen/u http://www.bankstellenshop.com/bankstellen/u.html Any idea what I'm doing wrong or what should change? Thanks in advance!

Why can't I redirect 302 errors to 301's?
I've been advised by IT that due to the structure of our website (they don't use sub-folders) it's not possible to change 302's to 301's. Is this correct, or am I being fobbed off?

301 redirects reverting to 302 redirects
We recently built a new website with a new site structure. To prevent there being a load of 404's I redirected the old pages to the new relevant pages with 301 redirects. A few days later the SEOmoz crawl report alerted me to a load of 302 redirects. When I looked into this for some reason all of the 301 redirects I set up are reverting to 302 redirects. I did a test by 301 redirecting a made up URL to an existing page and the same thing happens - it 302 redirects. I can't find any settings in WordPress to possibly explain why this is happening. Has anyone got any ideas why this could be?

301 Redirects Change?
Hi, Mozzers- I've noticed pages that are getting 301 redirected are staying out there longer. It used to be that you would implement a 301 redirect and then after a couple of months the old page would disappear out of Google's index. Over the last couple of months I've noticed pages lingering, popping up.... What gives? Thanks in advance! LHC

301 redirect to 1 of 3 locations based on browser languge? Is this ok?
Hi all, I'm taking over a site that has some redirect issues that need addressed and I want to make sure this is done right the first time. The problem: Our current setup starts with us allowing both non-www and www pages. I'll address this with a proper rewrite so all pages will have www. Server info: IIS and runs PHP. The real concern is that we currently run a browser detection for language at the root and then do a 302 redirect to /en, /ge or /fr. There is no page at the www.matchware.com. It's an immediate redirect to a language folder. I'd like to get these to a 301(Permanent) redirect but I'm not sure if a URL can have a 301 redirect that can go to 3 different locations. The site is huge and a site overhaul is not an option anytime soon. Our home page uses this: <%
