What Website Platform would you use?

We are considering 1 maybe 3 websites (1 new 2 redesign) there are so many options with technology rolling over every 3 years it seems. Here are my obstacles:
- Wordpress: dynamic but easily hacked, often needs updating
- Joomla: attractive, but cumbersome to manage
- Custom: sleek and easier to manage, but gets outdated quickly
Here are some variables: 80+ products, E-Commerce, Dynamic, Blog, Tons of images, SEO friendly, MUST not lose our rankings!
OK, Moz friends, What do you recommend?

Yes it helps a lot, your opinion is valued. My designer has evolved with technology and he offered both custom with minify abilities as well as WordPress (which I'm not in favor of). He makes good points about both, but really want to hear from my Moz Community before we make the plunge later this year, early next.

Since you guys have only 80+ products, I'd go with custom solution. Just make sure that you get company, who knows what they are doing and do some type of contract for updates.
Second choice of mine probably would be Shopify. You haven't mentioned it. They keep stuff up-to-date, but, as with all CMS systems, there are limitations, especially to technical SEO. I'd never go with Joomla, Wordpress+WooCommerce might be an option, but, additionally to cons you mentioned, it's, again, CMS, which means restrictions.

How to properly setup a website for the first time
Good morning, I am fairly proficient at SEO and understand a lot of the required elements - but am in no way an expert, which is why I am here now. We are in the process of setting up a brand new website (true PHP -Laravel) This will be for a nationwide website and will need to attract from the north, south, east and west. Although I have no worries about putting my domain out here, the site is not live and I don't want to possibly have a broken link pointing to me before I even launch - so I will give you an example URL and work from there. I will tell you it is a DOT Rentals website and we will call the business Widgets. So the URL is Widgets.Rentals There is no .com, .net - nothing. It is an exact match domain. The site operates as peer to peer - meaning customers will upload their widgets, photos, etc. of their widgets for rent. Now, having said that, let me ask this. If you were setting up this website - how would you recommend we do this right - right from the beginning? Since the customers (not the vendors) will search for widget rentals in a specific location - would you recommend that we maintain Geo Location with Google with a URL like this? Widget.Rentals/Orlando-Florida-beautiful-widgets-for-rent-at-a-great-price Or is it better to not Geo Locate? Widget.Rentals/beautiful-widgets-for-rent-at-a-great-price

Seperating Different Parts Of The Website
Hi There, I have a client with two parts to his business both for different types of customer with different language and copy needed. At the moment they have one website and I am trying to figure out the most search engine friendly way to present these different types. So for example if a client came in looking for service A, he would see the home page for service A and if he came in looking for service B he would come across the home page for service B. I know I could have seperate service pages for each service he provides, but I think it would be off putting to come to a home page of a site and see completely unrelated services on one page. I hope I am explaining myself here. As far as I can see the options are:- subdomains for servicea.examplesite.com, serviceb.examplesite.com and a split page (see attachement) where you click which you are interested in (don't like this idea) seperate websites a home page which shows all the services (too confusing) Any advice would be most grateful. Duplicate Title Issues using # anchor tags
Our homepage navigation uses anchor tags (?TabNumb=1#, ?TabNumb=1# etc) rather than directly linking to different pages to decrease load time (and simplify the build process I owuld imagine). These anchor links are showing up as duplicate titles in Moz. I am pretty sure if I were to use noindex or rel tags, that could have a negative affect on my search results. Nofollow links to resources used to save bandwidth?
I have a site on volusion, www.ecowindchimes.com. Until recently I was doing fairly well (top 3 for keyword(s) for 6 years) in serps. I was hit by the an update around july of last year, and did a full page redesign in november. My site has been losing ranking for its main keyword "wind chimes".

One change I noticed is that no-follow was removed (when the designers added a lightbox popup for the sound) from the many many links I have for my sound files of the wind chimes (I house them on a separate server to save bandwidth, which is expensive at volusion). The webaddress the sound-files are on doesn't even have a page... it is just there for the files. (there are ~100 files linked to on almost every page of the site where a product listing shows). Should I go through and no-follow all of these links again? Is that hurting me?
I suspect it is, but it is a lot of work for nothing if that is not the problem.0 -
What do YOU look for when reviewing technical website criteria?
Wanted to get everyone's thoughts on this. One of my clients was asking me what they thought of a certain website design company. They wanted to use this company because their designs were very beautiful but wanted to be sure that contracting them would be the right decision. Best Website Builder - Help Me Choose
I need to built a multi language site (to built a Pilates, Yoga site) and I will use a site builder. After posting questions on wix.com I came to the fact I should continue my research because there are not SEO friendly. Do you have a suggestions? Limited to html knowledge, using a website builder is my only option. Why or why not use Dot Net Nuke (DNN)?
I have development team pitching my client on using Dot Net Nuke (DNN) for the CMS. I have no experience with DNN and not sure why the developers want to use it. They do want to use Server SQL and may build some software for a different part of the project in .NET. What SEO and UX questions should I ask about using DNN?
