Google map listing #2
-
My website ranks well locally and nationally, but shortly I will be adding a second site to my business. We will be ranking it for different key words but the same location.
My question is, is it possible to verify another google + & google maps listing for this site?
And, what does google think about having two sites for the same business?
Huge thanks in advance for any answers

Totally agree with this from our experience - always, always, always use a single site if possible but if they are radically different businesses then it can work but there are annoyances on route.

Just adding to what Marcus has written ... a multi-site approach is very rarely recommended for local businesses.
While Google can typically handle multiple businesses at a shared address, they need to either be:
a) legally distinct businesses (like a dentist and carpet cleaning company)
or
b) distinct forward facing departments within a business (like the service dept. and the sales department of a car dealership).
And, each would need to have its own direct phone number.
What Google does not want is any single business attempting to appear like multiple businesses. So, for example, a law practice creating 1 GMB listing for its personal injury services and another for its corporate law services. If it's just one business, at one address, it is only eligible for 1 GMB listing.
Hope this helps!

Hey
As a local business the local SEO side of things is always useful - it builds visibility and even some links without the usual difficulty of doing this.
Then if this is a national business some sensible link building with a philosophy of building value and letting folks know about it always going to be required. If you can do this via other activities that have a direct marketing benefit and also aid your SEO then I always feel that delivers on the short and long term goals for the business.
Hope it all goes well!
Marcus

I believe in this case it's probably safer to walk on the side of caution. Thank you for your answer, you explain it very well.
Moving on, in order to help my new website rank - do you have any tips on getting trust flow to it?
Or is my only way through keywords, serp and on page seo?
Thanks:)

Hey
This can be problematic. I don't think that you should bend totally to the dictum from Google but you should be aware that with only a single address local SEO can be problematic. We have seen a client with two businesses - totally seperate businesses at a single address have both pages shut down by Google due to using the same address. We were able to get Google to reinstate the initial one after some tussling.
Some questions to ask:
-
does the business have a unique physical address?
-
does the business have a unique service area unrelated to the other business?
3. does the business have a unique and ideally local phone number?
The loose and largely hopeless advice from Google's own help pages is as follows:
- Represent your business as it’s consistently represented and recognised in the real world across signage, stationery and other branding.
- Make sure that your address is accurate and precise.
- Choose the fewest number of categories that it takes to describe your overall core business.
You can and we have successfully worked around this but you must ensure:
- Unique name
- Unique address (even if only a suite / office number)
- Unique phone number
- Clearly different categories on Google My Business
Then it just comes down to the basics like citation consistency and ensuring that the two businesses are clearly separate entities and deserve to be treated as such.
My primary thinking here is always anchored in the real world - if these are clearly separate entities then this should be achievable but we have to be mindful of some of the potential pitfalls with Google My Business.
I will also throw in a caveat that it is very hard to give specific advice without knowing the finer details but be aware of the potential issues here and tread very carefully. Ensure you create a clear divide between the two entities wherever possible (website, phone number, address tweaks, categories etc).
Hope that helps

Google My Business: Company listing is showing in search instead of division address - similar names/same city
Hi! I have a client whose company name is very similar to one if their company divisions. This division has multiple locations but its main location is in the same city as the parent company. The problem is that when you search for the division, the parent company shows up. The parent company has a physical address, but most users searching need to be going to the division address which takes customers. They are having problems with customers coming to the parent company address instead. I have made the Google My Business parent company page to show service areas instead of their business address. Yet, their listing still comes up first when searching for the division location. This is because of part of the parent company name is in the division name. My client wants users to be able to find the division more so than the parent company. Anyone had this issue before? Any tips would be great!

Google Local Listing Visibility for Regional Queries
I manage a variety of small local programs that are located in areas that are more known by the region than they are by the town (the Adirondacks and the Catskills to be specific). In the past, the local algorithm understood that when the query was related to the region, it would show a variety of results from that region. It seems that for the Catskills they have changed the algorithm to pinpoint the center of the region and only show results that are in the near vacinity of that pinpoint, rather than a variety of results from the region. The Adirondacks however is still showing a variety of results. For those of you not familiar, the Adirondack are 9,375 square miles and the Catskills are 5,892 square miles and are both very rural mountain regions and popular travel destinations. Google clearly understands that these regions are geographically oriented and shows a local pack for relevant results such as "Catskills Resorts" or "Catskills Restaurants", but over the past few weeks, they have started only showing 2 results for the query Catskills resorts, both located near Shandaken, NY becasue that is where Google has deemed the marker for the Catskills is (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Catskill+Mountains/@42.009289,-74.3996212,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x89dc665668f82f31:0x3b012376423b8efa!8m2!3d42.0092908!4d-74.3821116) In reality, there are hundreds of resorts within the Catskills. (Note there is a Catskill, NY within the Catskills, however Google is not even confusing this town with the region). Does anyone have ideas on how to get Google to understand that the Catskills are more than Shandaken, NY? I feel like we suddenly have no hope of ranking locally and most of the businesses I manage are located in very small towns that people are not specifically searching for.

Rank English Terms in Swiss Google Google.ch
Happy New Year! I have a .com site that does well on Google.co.uk. But we would like to rank on Google.ch (switzerland) for English terms. There is a large expat community, living in Switzerland that would benefit from our services. Any ideas how I can improve organic SEO on the Google.ch SE? Many thanks! PM me for website. Otherwise I'll get lots of spam to my client 🙂

How Does Google Consider a Business Name as Duplicate?
Hi, A problem about local business listings of one of my clients is confusing to me! The correct business name is: "Thomas Frank, DDS" This is how his business name appears in different local business listing sites: Dr Thomas W Frank, DDS Dr. Thomas Frank DDS Frank Thomas DDS Cosmetic Implant Laser Dentistry Frank Thomas W DDS ,... Do you think Google assumes these business names duplicate and wrong and they need to be updated by me? Which ones exactly? Or they are OK and it won't result to increase in his ranks? I should mention that everything else in his listings are OK but the business name. Thank you in advance for your kind helps,

Google Places for Business Image URL Suggestions
Hi All, Currently am grandfathered on the old Bulk Upload version of Google Places for Business. I am being told that the ability to upload images using their upload tool will not be available any longer. Therefore, I am being forced to house the images for each of my 900+ locations on an outside server and then reference the web url location for each image for each location. I can handle creating the spreadsheet for this, but my question is, does anyone know of a good place to store images in folders that will create clean urls? Example, I have location 1. I have a folder on my hard drive called location 1 that has 10 unique image .jpg files in that folder. I want to be able to upload that folder to an image host/server and have the url come out something like, www.example.com/pics/location1/image1.jpg I have tried multiple online storage options so far, such as dropbox, shutterfly, and some one offs, but have not found anything that can do what I need. I don't have the ability to buy a new hosting account with FTP to create my own image storage library, so must be a free solution. Greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer

Unable to verify my google local listing page by phone verification.
Hi, I have created the Google local listing page for my business site. I want to verify it using the phone verification but there is only a option - "verify by postcard". Is there no option to verify it using a phone number? Help needed.
