Directory links with no follow
-
Hi
I'm researching competitor backlinks & they have a lot of directory links which are no follow - but they rank very well.
Is this type of link building even allowed by google? I know they they aren't allowed followed directory links, but will no following them help with rankings?

Hi
Thanks for this, I haven't used a scraper before, I'll have a look at it thanks

In adition to Jordan's comment:
Those footprints can be easily searched by a scraper.
I've found many blogs where to place comments or guest posts. The trick is to find any related term/text that appears in all sites that you might find relevant.
I used GScraper, with about 10 footprints and a few hours of running, it found over 10k results. Then filter by HTTP status (leaving 200), then remove duplicates, and so on.
The list came to about 100 URLs, and using Netpeack checker, you can get their metrics easily.A little black hat
Best Luck

Cool, that sounds like a good idea I haven't tried!
Will give it a go, thanks for your help!

It is super time consuming. Another idea I did and it worked fairly well and got me some success was using epicbeat.epictions.com to source for links. They have a free version of their platform too so all I did was input a broad search term related to my nice. Then I pulled a few of the top performing content pieces that I thought I could write and bring a unique perspective into it. I took those url's and ran them through SEM rush or another software to see who was linking to it and built an excel sheet with metrics such as, PA, DA and contact information.
Give that a try too and see if you have any success.
hope that helps some.

Great thank you, it's a time consuming process

Maybe they are using really niche directories that are relevant to their industry. That could be a possibility, however this might help:
"Your Industry" + intitle:“write for us”
"Your Industry" + intitle:“guest post”
"Your Industry"+ intitle:“contribute to”
"Your Industry" + intitle:“submit” + inurl:blog
inpostauthor:guest + "Your Industry"
inpostauthor:”guest blog” + "Your Industry"
inpostauthor:”guest post” + "Your Industry" -
I'm using SEMRush.
Yeh I don't agree with directories & I'm trying to find some niche blogs but it's a bit of a struggle.
I came across all their directory links and just wondered why it was working so well for them!

There are some directories that can be follow like dmoz and yahoo directory. But using directories as a linkbuilding tactic is not a good idea. What tool are you using to spy on your competitors backlinks?
-
Thanks!
I'll take a look - for Google I'm guessing it should still be a no follow?
-
If they are high-quality directories that are relevant within their niche then they would offer some benefit I would imagine. If they are low-quality directories I know Google devalues those links.

Hello, I am currently designing the webpages of my website and I am wondering if I should link externally or if it going to hurt me ? I am in the travel industry and for example in the France in the Loire valley, I want to list hotels that people can stay at in pre and pods trip. Is it ok to link to maybe 10 of those hotels websites or can it hurt me ? Thank you,

Does Navigation Bar have an effect on the link juice and the number of internal links?
Hi Moz community, I am getting the "Avoid Too Many Internal Links" error from Moz for most of my pages and Google declared the max number as 100 internal links. However, most of my pages can't have internal links less than 100, since it is a commercial website and there are many categories that I have to show to my visitors by using the drop down navigation bar. Without counting the links in the navigation bar, the number of internal links is below 100. I am wondering if the navigation bar links affect the link juice and counted as internal links by Google. The Same question also applies to the links in the footer. Additionally, how about the products? I have hundreds of products in the category pages and even though I use pagination I still have many links in the category pages (probably more than 100 without even counting the navigation bar links). Does Google count the product links as internal links and how about the effect on the link juice? Here is the website if you want to take a look: http://www.goldstore.com.tr Thank you for your answers.

If I nofollow outbound external links to minimize link juice loss > is it a good/bad thing?
OK, imagine you have a blog, and you want to make each blog post authoritative so you link out to authority relevant websites for reference. In this case it is two external links per blog post, one to an authority website for reference and one to flickr for photo credit. And one internal link to another part of the website like the buy-now page or a related internal blog post. Now tell me if this is a good or bad idea. What if you nofollow the external links and leave the internal link untouched so all internal links are dofollow. The thinking is this minimizes loss of link juice from external links and keeps it flowing through internal links to pages within the website. Would it be a good idea to lay off the nofollow tag and leave all as do follow? or would this be a good way to link out to authority sites but keep the link juice internal? Your thoughts are welcome. Thanks.

This link as been removed no reference to our website, however it still showing on GWT inbound links. I have noticed quite a few sites which have no relevance to our site. Is anyone else finding the information wrong in WMT

Thousands of Links from mrwhatis.net
Google WMT shows that there are thousands of links pointing to the pages of my website from mrwhatis.net. Among the links, hundreds of them have the same anchor text. Here are some examples. http://mrwhatis.net/a-canon-in-music-for-kid.html

http://mrwhatis.net/canon-d-major-piano-mp3-free-downloa.html
http://mrwhatis.net/canon-d-major-piano-sheet-fre.html and more.... The links pointing to my site on the above pages share the same link title "Canon In D Sheet Music | Canon In D Music Score". My question is - are these links considered unnatural links by Google based on your experience? Why and why not? I want to get some ideas before I ask Google to disavow these links. Thanks. John0 -
Why the sudden link drop?
A the end of November I am showing that our total links were 118k. Current links are 22k. We changed sites early November so that was about three weeks before. What would cause the drop of about 100k links? Or where should I start investigating?

Client participated in Link farm.
Our client participated in link exchange activity between 2008-2009. The service they used was http://link2me.com/ Its an obvious link farm scheme and their drop in traffic/rankings correlates to panda release early this year. The site does have tons of unique content, their are no technical SEO issues. They DO have great inbound links from some very authoritative sites (ie: peta.org) They do not rank even for unique strings taken directly from their content. Rankings for some very n long tail terms are virtually non existant. So the question were trying to figure out is, did the domain get hit with a penalty bc of past link farm participation, if so how can we correct? -- killing the account with link2me has already been done Could the domain NOT be penalized, and since all those external links were penalized did our site lose authority?

Footer Link
Hello, Some of my hosted clients don't mind if I put a footer link on the bottom of their website. I would like to put a footer link that looks like Seomoz's - http://imgur.com/GrC8y Basically it would look like so: "Powered by "my company name". The world's #1 "keyword" provider (LOGO goes here) Here are my questions: 1. Would this hurt or help my rankings? 2. Should the logo be hosted by my clients so that a different ip is hosting my logo (where my image name will get picked up)? Or is it best to host it myself? 3. If my company name and keyword are getting linked, is that one link too many? 4. Is it a good idea to use a different keyword so that other keywords get picked up by SERPs, or should I set myself up on one keyword ? Thank you so much! Shawn
