The use of Markup language
-
Hi,
We were thinking of adding markup language to our site. We have been reading about it to understand the actual benefits of doing so (we have seen many brands are not using it, including moz.com).
So I have two questions:
1- Would you recommend using it for our site? www.memoq.com
2- If yes, would it be better to create a snippet of code for our home page as an "organization" and then different snippets for our product pages as "products".
Looking forward to your comments,
-
Yes I have read almost every Google guideline and post about it. I guess I will delete the description from the organization as that text is not found as such in the page.
Thanks for the answer and for the help during these days!!

Hi Kirsten,
I have one last question related to structured data. We have decided to use JSON-LD as it is the preferred form of markup language by Google. Now my question is regarding the standard of the code we are about to insert.
This is a part of the code we have created using Google testers tool:
-
Creating the piece for the code for the "Organization" using the tester tool from Google was pretty straightforward, however, I now have one more question, this time a little more conceptual:
When we started to create the snippet of code for our product, we were thinking of adding items such as "nam", "logo", "description", "url", "offer" (where we would include price), but also "reviews". I am not sure this is the best approach, as I would naturally relate reviews more with hotels, hostels, bars... but no necessarily with translation software. Nonetheless, review for translation software are everywhere, and it is very frequent that translators.
Do you have any advice? Is there any blog or article were I can read more about it?
Thanks,
-
Hi,
Like Kirsten already mentioned, I would definitely go with structured markup. The best thing around these these is JSON-LD to do this so you can separate your structured markup from the rest of the content. In this case I would also re-use the Organization information on your Product pages but also go indeed with the Product Schema. But what you can do as well is make sure that if you have review they're marked up with the Review Schema as well.
Best of luck!
Martijn.

Will using tabs on my page for navigation hurt SEO
Currently we have tabs on some pages that are set so that the page shows all the content for search engines on one page, but the user sees only part of the content until they click a tab. We are unable to use title tags for the tabbed areas. We think this hurts us from an SEO standpoint. We are getting only 3 keyword where we could have 12 if they were individual pages. What is the thought on using tabs and is it okay? Has there been any case studies on this?

Best use of robots.txt for "garbage" links from Joomla!
I recently started out on Seomoz and is trying to make some cleanup according to the campaign report i received. One of my biggest gripes is the point of "Dublicate Page Content". Right now im having over 200 pages with dublicate page content. Now.. This is triggerede because Seomoz have snagged up auto generated links from my site. My site has a "send to freind" feature, and every time someone wants to send a article or a product to a friend via email a pop-up appears. Now it seems like the pop-up pages has been snagged by the seomoz spider, however these pages is something i would never want to index in Google. So i just want to get rid of them. Now to my question I guess the best solution is to make a general rule via robots.txt, so that these pages is not indexed and considered by google at all. But, how do i do this? what should my syntax be? A lof of the links looks like this, but has different id numbers according to the product that is being send: http://mywebshop.dk/index.php?option=com_redshop&view=send_friend&pid=39&tmpl=component&Itemid=167 I guess i need a rule that grabs the following and makes google ignore links that contains this: view=send_friend

Using Sitemap Generator - Good/Bad?
Hi all I recently purchased the full licence of XML Sitemap Generator (http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/standalone-google-sitemap-generator.html) but have yet used it. The idea behind this is that I can deploy the package on each large e-commerce website I build and the sitemap will be generated as often as I set it be and the search engines will also be pinged automatically to inform them of the update. No more manual XML sitemap creation for me! Now it sounds great but I do not know enough about pinging search engines with XML sitemap updates on a regular basis and if this is a good or bad thing? Can it have any detrimental effect when the sitemap is changing (potentially) every day with new URLs for products being added to the site? Any thoughts or optinions would be greatly appreciated. Kris

Is use of javascript to simplify information architecture considered cloaking?
We are considering using javascript to format URLs to simplify the navigation of the googlebot through our site, whilst presenting a larger number of links for the user to ensure content is accessible and easy to navigate from all parts of the site. In other words, the user will see all internal links, but the search engine will see only those links that form our information hierarchy. We are therefore showing the search engine different content to the user only in so far as the search engine will have a more hierarchical information architecture by virture of the fact that there will be fewer links visible to the search engine to ensure that our content is well structured and discoverable. Would this be considered cloaking by google and would we be penalised?

Should I 301 redirect my country specific sites, or use them as linking root domains?
I have loveelectronics.co.uk, but I also own 10 other country code specific domains. I am short on links (i'm actually still setting up the website) and wondered that until i have country specific content, should I 301 redirect these websites to the homepage of my main site, or could I use them as links which would mean I have more linking root domains? Sorry if this is a beginner question, but it would be good to know so I can sort this.
