Is having one blanket h1 tag across my site bad?
-
I've been working on figuring out if my site host (jigsy) is hindering my seo. The site editor doesn't allow me to assign individual h1 tags for each page, it just blankets one across the whole site as part of a theme.....is this normal?...would it be better to have individual h1s?....is that a thing? Or should I work on making a better one since all my pages should technically be related to counseling/therapy?

You Should have a self hosted website. Do not use Wix or Squarespace. SEO is terrible on these platforms.
-
What does the h1 tag say. The words... That's copy.
-
...but now I'm reading through their material on seo and it looks like they do support individual h1 tags for each page? lolol
-
you guys, I'm losing my mind lol. Just talked with a representative at Squarespace and he said they do the exact same thing! Is this something thats maybe not a big deal and I'm just worrying too much?
-
Ugh! this is what I've been trying to solidly figure out. I also just learned that they don't have any way for me to do redirects on blog pages and....soooo I've got all these old ones with bad permalinks Im stuck with.
This brings up another problem though, They are making it really difficult to move to another host. There is no way to transfer my site aside from doing something manually....and I'm afraid of messing up stuff that might damage my seo. What do you think?
by the way, my host is jigsy.com...a couple of times when I've asked them about something they have said they are on "ruby on rails"?
-
Change hosts as soon as possible!
If you don't you will shoot yourself when you finally find out how much traffic you are losing by not having each page optimzied with the proper title tag.
-
I'm not sure what you mean by the copy of the h1 tag the site is producing. My site address is www.joeborders.com
I contacted customer support at jigsy again today and they said I have no option about the blanket h1 tag and that their system uses all other headings as h2s. They did say that I can add additional h1 tags to the html code on individual pages....not sure if Google would hate me for this
-
You should have control over your h1 tags. What is the copy of the h1 tag that the site is producing? Is the site a wordpress site? You would not want to have just one h1 tag with the same copy for every page. The H1 acts like a title. It is the most important tag when it comes to SEO

Removing a site from Google index with no index met tags
Hi there! I wanted to remove a duplicated site from the google index. I've read that you can do this by removing the URL from Google Search console and, although I can't find it in Google Search console, Google keeps on showing the site on SERPs. So I wanted to add a "no index" meta tag to the code of the site however I've only found out how to do this for individual pages, can you do the same for a entire site? How can I do it? Thank you for your help in advance! L

How can I get Google to forget an https version of one page on my site?
Google mysteriously decided to index the broken, https version of one page on my company's site (we have a cert for the site, but this page is not designed to be served over https and the CSS doesn't load). The page already has many incoming links to the http version, and it has a canonical URL with http. I resubmitted it on http with webmaster tools. Is there anything else I could do?

Header Tag Question
While reviewing code on a site, I found the following: <h1 class="<a class="attribute-value">logo</a>"> <a id="<a class="attribute-value">logo</a>" href="[http://siteexampleh1.com](view-source:http://dmbinc.com/)"><span>Example of most important content on this page- Companyspan>a> h1> Is this the correct way to place code for an h1 tag? The content is cached within the page and is hidden to the viewer. The content that is assigned as the h1, is a logo. Majority of code I have been reviewing does not use this setup. The code would instead read as ( This is heading 1 ). Can anyone provide insights on this? Thanks!

Two different canonical tags on one page
Due to an error, some of my pages now have two canonical tags on them. One is correct and the other goes to a nonsense URL (404 page). I know I should ideally remove the incorrect ones, but it's a big manual job. Are they doing any harm? Can I just leave them there and let Google figure it out? The correct ones are higher up in the code. Will this make a difference? Any help appreciated.

Are site wide links bad for web developers?
Like many web dev companies, we put an anchor text credit (varying the anchor text) in the footer of clients' sites. As it's a footer link, it's site wide. This strategy's been troubling me for a while and I've been anticipating a drop in our rankings ... especially in light of Penguin. But it hasn't happened. Any other developers our there taken a hit by having site wide links? anyone have any views on this? Anyone want to comment on the spurious and unlikely scenario that Google may recognise that web dev companies have always used site wide credits and may therefore be overlooking / not penalising them?

What to do if my site was De-indexed?
Hello fellow SEOs, I have been doing SEO for about a year now, I'm not expert, but I know enough to get the job done. I'm learning everyday about better techniques. So enough about that... Tonight I noticed that my site has, I believe, been de-indexed. Its a fairly new site, as we just launched it a few days ago and I went in and did all the title tags and meta. I still have to go in to do the h1 and h2 tags...plus add some alt tags and anchor text. Well anyways, after a couple of days after the title tags were implemented. I was propagating all over the place. Using my keyword tool here...I was number on the first page in Google for 71 or the 88 keywords. My new site was just indexed yesterday and thats when i noticed all my keywords. Well today I noticed that I am no where to be found, even if i type in my company's name. PLEASE help me out...any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. p.s. could my competitors could have done something to my site? just wondering... The website is www.eggheadconsultants.com
