Listing and Linking Brands from Homepage
-
We have the popular brands that we sell listed on our homepage. We currently have them in just plain text at the moment but we want to know if it would be best to:
- Leave them in plain text
- Link each to the most relevant page on our website
- Link each out to the actual brands website
- Link some to internal page, others out to brands website, some blank
- Not have a list of brands
We do have a webpage that lists all of our brands but there are hundreds we carry so we narrowed down the 40 most popular known brands that people will be looking for on the homepage.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your reply! Sorry, I should of been more clear that this is an e-Commerce website. I guess my only concern with linking 40 brands was if it looks spammy to do so. They have been placed there mainly for SEO however they also serve a use to customers to see what brands we do carry.

Hi Jon,
People usually try to click on logos when they see them but you could use some sort of click tracking/heat mapping program to confirm if they are or not. If they are trying to click, it would be a good idea to link them to something.
Where to link to depends on the type of site it is and how it's monetized.
Without knowing much about the site, I would probably link to a brand page on your own site but it could make sense to link directly to the brand's site if you are an affiliate with these brands. If you don't get any benefit from sending traffic to these brands, definitely keep the links internal!
Linking internally to brand pages on your site can also help you to rank organically for these brand terms - which can be a great driver of organic traffic.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
David

Homepage SEO
Hi I have designed my site with about 10 pages which focus on my main keywords. My question is what should I do about the homepage? Do I focus on a keyword on just my brand name? The homepage is a showcase of all my services and a bit about us. Thanks

I have 2 canonical links. Must get rid of one?
On my wordpress blog, i have 2 canonical links for every single post, like this: One is generated by wordpress theme: rel='canonical' href='http://site.com/article-title/' /> The other one is generated by AllinOne seo pack: <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">http://site.com/article-title/</a>" /> I tried to remove one of them, but if i uncheck from AllinOne, the source code is the same. Also, on-page analysis from SeoMoz tells me that i need only one canonical link. I don't have errors in Google Webmater Tools. What should I do?

If I have too many on-page links can I reduce it with nofollow tags or do the links have to be removed?
On my site I have a top nav drop down menu but once visitors go to one particularly large subsection, that menu is repeated on the left for easier viewing. As a result, I shoot over 100 links on page. Can I put nofollow or noindex tags on the left side links and reduce my "official" on-page links count or do I have to actually eliminate some of the links? Thanks, Oak

Randomly Generated Links & Passing PageRank
Hi all, If you were to have links that were randomly generated on each refresh, how would they be treated? I would imagine that they are treated normally and isolated to each crawl. So Google would just see the link structure changing from crawl to crawl and therefore give no long term value to these links. Any ideas? Thanks for your responses! Nick
