Do you outreach to blogs with no recent activity?
-
I have been doing outreach to blogs with some good success. My question (problem) is that many blogs do not update regularly and they may not have a new post within the past year or so.
Is it best to pass on sending them an email or is it worth the time to do it? What is your cutoff point?
Thanks!

As you said, as long as you're adding value then there's no harm in seeking links. As always just make sure they're relevant to your space.
Link building is still a ranking factor so if you're getting a ranking increase on top of clicks and awareness why not actively seek links?
-
Great tip, thanks for the idea!

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with going for the link if I'm adding value to their website and making a good name for myself in the process. Even if I'm just asking for a link because I think I have something that would be of interest to their visitors I don't see a problem with it.
I appreciate that your strategy may be different than mine but I don't think that everyone has moved on from outreach for linking purposes. For example > https://moz.com/blog/category/link-building or http://backlinko.com/link-building

Good luck! You're SEO strategy is in that case 2-5 years behind if you're doing it just for links. The rest of us have moved on to strategies that do bring company value!

Hey. I agree with what Martijn said that generally, you want to request links from more active sites. Those sites tend to have better overall quality, search performance, and a more active audience. The one thing I'll add is that sometimes you can find blogs that have great evergreen content (good rankings, good links, seem to have decent traffic, etc.) even though they don't have a lot of recent content. In these cases, a link to a relevant page on your site could enhance that evergreen content and sometimes site runners are willing to update old articles (even if they aren't adding anything new). For example, maybe an old blog post on a currently inactive site has a great recap of the best ways to do X (where X is a subject that hasn't changed much in years). You have a page that offers another way to do X or is somehow tightly connected, so including it in that older blog post could be of use to the people who find that old article.

Thanks
Yes, the awareness is nice but the links are what I'm after.

Hey!
So what's your incentive for sending them one? If they're not going to update it, Google will also have noticed that they haven't published anything noteworthy in the last year. Also if you're only doing link building for the links and not for awareness + visits. My guess would be that it's then not worth it with a site that has not been updated.
Martijn.

Duplicate page content on numerical blog pages?
Hello everyone, I'm still relatively new at SEO and am still trying my best to learn. However, I have this persistent issue. My site is on WordPress and all of my blog pages e.g page one, page two etc are all coming up as duplicate content. Here are some URL examples of what I mean: http://3mil.co.uk/insights-web-design-blog/page/3/ http://3mil.co.uk/insights-web-design-blog/page/4/ Does anyone have any ideas? I have already no indexed categories and tags so it is not them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Subdomain blog vs. subfolder blog in 2013
So I've read the posts here: http://moz.com/community/q/subdomain-blog-vs-subfolder-blog-in-2013 and many others, Matt Cutts video, etc. Does anyone have direct experience that its still best practice to use the sub folder? (hopefully a moz employee can chime in?) I have a client looking to use hubspot. They are preaching with the Matt Cutts video. I'm in charge of SEO / marketing and am at odds with them now. I'd like to present the client with more info than "in my experience in the past I've seen subdirectories work." Any help? Articles? etc?

Stopped ranking. Suspect links with keyword in blog posts and blog username. What to do? Disvow?
One of our staff thought it was a good idea to comment in 30 blogs in our niche using "keyword" as username in blog post linked to our website and additionally adding links to our website in the posts. We now got caught by panda or penguin (google confirmed no manual penalty was taken) and not ranking anymore for this keyword. No notification in webmaster tools neither. We have links from around 90 root domains of which 30 are from these blog posts. What would you suggest to do? Just building more legitimate links so that share of bad links goes down?

Using google disvow tool? We would then loose potential to get later legitimate links from these sites? Any ideas/suggestions?0 -
Looking for suggestions on email outreach title/content
Hello, We created a "How to choose a product" PDF that we are marketing to resource pages and blogs in four appropriate niches. It's good, unique content that's useful. The PDF has it's own non-commercial page. We will be doing email outreach with buzzstream. Is it important to never ask for a link in the first email? We're offering one of the following four in exchange for the link (they get to choose one): 1. A link back on one of our other sites in the same niche (not reciprocal link) 2. $100 in adwords traffic including up to 20 keywords. 3. Facebook share of their URL 4. Tweet of their URL Let me stop there and see what your feedback is. We're looking for (about) how many emails to send out building relationships before making the above offer. Or is there some way to make the offer immediately? Also, what makes a good subject line? Rand seems to indicate that you can make the offer right away in this whiteboard friday but every other article and video I've watched have said to build a relationship first. Any help is appreciated. We'll be writing all completely custom, researched outreach emails, carefully crafted.

Article/ Blog Post submissions
Hello All, I'm looking to perform a 'Standard' guest blog post link building tactic, but i'm a little unsure as where to start. Does anybody have a list/ guide to websites that accept guest posts? Preferably ones that are useful for SEO purposes, I have been link building for about 3 months now, but to be honest, most of these links are NoFollow, which isn't too great! Paul

Best SEO format for a blog page on an ecommerce website.. inc Source Ordered Content
Does anyone know of a page template or code I might want to base a blog on as part of an eccomerce website? I am interested in keeping the look (includes) of the website and paying attention to Source Ordered Content helping crawlers index the new great blogs we have to share. I could just knock up a page with a template from the site but I would like to investigate SOC at this stage as it may benefit us in the long run. Any ideas?

Preparing a DotNetNuke Active Forums site for SEO push
I'm in the process of buying and running an existing forum that is running on DotNetNuke 5.2.0 and Active Fours 4.1. As part of the transfer, I'm asking that the site be upgraded to the latest version of DNN and AF 4.3. AF 4.3 has SEO-friendly URLs instead of the current long, ugly default URLs, and I'm looking forward to implementing that feature. My specific question is: What would you do to prepare for this upgrade in terms of the content, especially related to the URL changes? I've gone into Google Analytics and downloaded content by page title, exported the first 1000 results, and put those titles into Word and corrected spelling errors in the title so URLs will be based on correct spellings. General background: The site is not currently monetized, and there will not be an initial focus on monetization and likely only smaller efforts (affiliate Amazon links in a resource section) in the future. The site is free for users. I'm fine with taking a hit in organic traffic in the short term. About 1/3 of the traffic is from search engines right now, and less than 30% of the visitors are new visits. The site is going to continue much the same as it has until now. Same moderators, same purpose, same skin, etc. I have access to GA, site is verified in GWT, need to verify in Bing, and I do have root access to the server. I've already started working on image file sizes, both of user-submitted images and site-related images like the header. Until now, I have no experience with DNN or AF or any of the extensions (and am appalled at the price and lack of features of some of those extensions, compared to what I'm used to for WordPress). More general questions: In terms of SEO, I'm intending to treat the upgrade of the forum with the friendly URLs as a re-launch. I'm wanting good URLs, put in a site map, fix non-www to www, etc. When I start making the changes and submitting the site map and generally drawing Google's attention, I want Google to like what it sees, and have as much optimized as possible when googlebot comes around. My goal is to draw more targeted visitors from search that are interested in the content in the site. What other suggestions do you have for the site prep, both from being a forum in general and specifically on DNN/AF? I'm not putting the URL out just yet, as we haven't announced to the users the change of ownership is taking place. Thanks everyone!
