Privacy policy page at the bottom of web
-
Hello,
I am wondering if having my privacy policy page at the bottom of my site (meaning being linked from every page on my site) can hurt me in terms of flow of juice ?
-
Like that in robots.txt
Disallow: /my-private-terms.hmtl
-
If you use nofollow, then no search engine value passes through the link.
I would not do that with links on my own website.
I would also stop worrying about a link to your privacy page in the footer. It is almost a requirement of doing business and everyone has them.
-
That is true Joe. I forgot about that. So it can have the most links and not carry any weight...
-
Just to clarify, this is showing up as the page with the most internal links pointing to it? Or this is showing up in the 'Links to Your Site' report?
The answer is the same though. This report just shows where most of your links are pointing to, it does not claim which are the most authoritative or those that carry the most weight. Nofollow links (links that are stripped of SEO value) will also show up in these same reports. It is simply looking at link quantity, nothing else.
-
I have also heard they aren't given much weight but when I go in my webmaster tools it says that it is the most linked page of my website so I really wonder how it can less weighted if google webmaster tools give such a strong signal to it ?
-
Nah, I wouldn't worry about it. These sitewide footer links are not given much weight so I doubt it is taking much equity from the other links on the page. It is a pretty standard practice for reputable websites, I would leave it as is. Check out the link below for a Search Engine Round Table article that discusses the 'weight' of this type of link.
Google: Links In Footers Or Sitewides Are Not Given That Much Weight

WIth robotx.txt you can stop to google to index. the problem is that page is duplicate in many many sites around internet and it seems as a duplicate content for google.

Wrong Pages Ranking
Good Afternoon We had an issue a while ago with the incorrect pages ranking in Google for some of our key terms. For example the page ranking for the term in Hotels in Spain was an individual information page for one particular hotel in Spain rather than the top level page which is optimised for "Hotels in Spain" The individual property page was ranking around 36-40 so we tightened up all the internal linking structure to ensure the term "Hotels in Spain" was pointing to the correct page and de-optimised the individual property page for the term. After a few weeks, everything seemed to be working and we were ranking top of second page for correct page however, ranking report today has reversed our good fortune and the incorrect page is ranking in a low position Any further suggestions or advise would be very much appreciated. Ideally, I don't want to remove the page that is ranking as it's still relevant for a search for that particular hotel

We are switching our CMS local pages from a subdomain approach to a subfolder approach. What's the best way to handle this? Should we redirect every local subdomain page to its new subfolder page?
We are looking to create a new subfolder approach within our website versus our current subdomain approach. How should we go about handling this politely as to not lose everything we've worked on up to this point using the subdomain approach? Do we need to redirect every subdomain URL to the new subfolder page? Our current local pages subdomain set up: stores.websitename.com How we plan on adding our new local subfolder set-up: websitename.com/stores/state/city/storelocation Any and all help is appreciated.

Any downsides of (permanent)redirecting 404 pages to more generic pages(category page)
Hi, We have a site which is somewhat like e-bay, they have several categories and advertisements posted by customers/ client. These advertisements disappear over time and turn into 404 pages. We have the option to redirect the user to the corresponding category page, but we're afraid of any negative impact of this change. Are there any downsides, and is this really the best option we have? Thanks in advance!

Merge content pages together to get one deep high quality content page - good or not !?
Hi, I manage the SEO of a brand poker website that provide ongoing very good content around specific poker tournaments, but all this content is split into dozens of pages in different sections of the website (blog section, news sections, tournament section, promotion section). It seems like today having one deep piece of content in one page has better chance to get mention / social signals / links and therefore get a higher authority / ranking / traffic than if this content was split into dozens of pages. But the poker website I work for and also many other website do generate naturally good content targeting long tail keywords around a specific topic into different section of the website on an ongoing basis. Do you we need once a while to merge those content pages into one page ? If yes, what technical implementation would you advice ? (copy and readjust/restructure all content into one page + 301 the URL into one). Thanks Jeremy

Large number of new web pages to launch in bulk or to stretch over longer time?
We are going to launch about 60.000 new web pages under one established domain (google pagerank 6), which currently has about 30.000 web pages. So web pages will triple. New pages contain keyword variations of existing pages with pages targeting specific niches. All pages with unique and useful specific content for visitor. All pages heavily interlinked among each other. Would you recommend to stretch launch of new pages over some time period, or do you see no problem to launch them all on one day? In about 3 months we plan to launch another 180.000 new web pages. Thanks.

Duplicate Page Title/Content Issues on Product Review Submission Pages
Hi Everyone, I'm very green to SEO. I have a Volusion-based storefront and recently decided to dedicate more time and effort into improving my online presence. Admittedly, I'm mostly a lurker in the Q&A forum but I couldn't find any pre-existing info regarding my situation. It could be out there. But again, I'm a noob... So, in my recent SEOmoz report I noticed that over 1,000 Duplicate Content Errors and Duplicate Page Title Errors have been found since my last crawl. I can see that every error is tied to a product in my inventory - specifically each product page has an option to write a review. It looks like the subsequent page where a visitor can fill out their review is the stem of the problem. All of my products are shown to have the same issue: Duplicate Page Title - Review:New Duplicate Page Content - the form is already partially filled out with the corresponding product My first question - It makes sense that a page containing a submission form would have the same title and content. But why is it being indexed, or crawled (or both for that matter) under every parameter in which it could be accessed (product A, B, C, etc)? My second question (an obvious one) - What can I do to begin to resolve this? As far as I know, I haven't touched this option included in Volusion other than to simply implement it. If I'm missing any key information, please point me in the right direction and I'll respond with any additional relevant information on my end. Many thanks in advance!

Page Titles... question about which is better
Hi, I'm kind of a newbie and I'm working on an e commerce website. I would love to be able to optimize the site so that the keyword "dog boutique" was ranking for the homepage. B/C a lot of the pages call from php to create the meta data, most of generated page titles look like "Product Name, Category - Moondoggie Dog Boutique" My question is would it be more helpful to just have Moondoggie Dog Boutique on the page title on the page I would like to rank for "dog boutique" and use Moondoggie Inc. or Just Moondoggie in it's place on all of the other pages? Would this help or make it worse? Thanks! KristyO If you would like to see hte site: http://www.moondoggieinc.com
