PDF linkbuilding - pictures or no pictures since they might print it
-
Hello,
We're writing a PDF on how to choose a product for our niche. We want people to link to the PDF, share it with people, and possibly print it.
How heavily should I use graphics and images in this PDF? The corresponding article is full of graphics, charts, and images.
Thanks.

If the graphics and charts will make the report look good and add value to the data then I'd add as many as I felt were neccessary.

Potential issue: Page design might look like keyword stuffing to a web crawler
We have an interesting design element we might try on our home page. Here's a mockup: https://codepen.io/dsbudiac/pen/Bwrgjd I'm worried web crawlers will interpret this as keyword stuffing and affect our rankings. It features: Mostly transparent/hidden text Repeating keyword list I could try a couple methods to skirt around crawling concerns: Load keywords through an iframe Make the keywords an image (would significantly increase page load) Inject keywords after page load into a container w/ javascript (prob not effective as crawlers are only getting better at indexing javascript) Load the keywords into an svg element Load the keywords into a canvas element via javascript I have a few questions: Should I be concerned about any potential keyword stuffing / SEO issues with this design? Can you comment on the effectiveness (with proof) of the above strategies? Am I better off just abandoning this type of design?

Embedding PDF previews and maintaining crawlability/link-equity.
One site that I'm working on has previously had a great deal of success from the pdf preview content on the site. The pdf previews are quite substantial and rank for many many long-tail terms that drive a reasonable amount of traffic back to the site to purchase the full version of the product. As part of a site redesign, the way the pdf previews are embedded/presented on the page is changing slightly: The proposed modal pop-up on the new site the code looks like thie: <object data="my-pdf-preview.pdf" type="application/pdf" style="width:100%; min-height:600px; max-height:100%;max-height:100%;"><embed src="my-pdf-preview.pdf" type="application/pdf"></object> Where as the old code looked like this: <object data="mt-pdf-previewpreview.pdf#view=FitH,50&scrollbar=1&toolbar=0&statusbar=0&messages=0&navpanes=0" <br="">type='application/pdf'

width='100%'
height='600'> It appears your Web browser is not configured to display PDF files. No worries, you can download the PDF file here.</object> Note: how previously the code contained a plain, standard link to the pdf document. My worry is that without this link, search engines won't a) be able to discover/crawl the pdf content or b) pass any link-equity to these pdfs. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations about this? I'd like to have some information before I request that they add a plain link to the pdf previews back onto the on-page content.0 -
PDF or HTML Page?
One of our sales team members has created a 25 page word document as a topical page. The plan was to make this into an html page with a table of contents. My thoughts were why not make it a pdf? Is there any con to using a PDF vs an html page? If the PDF was properly optimized would it perform just as well? The goal is to have folks click back to our products and hopefully by after reading about how they work.

Disappearing Authorship Pictures
I have a couple of established sites where the Authorship picture has suddenly disappeared and been gone for about a week now. Everything looks OK when I check, and the rich snippet tool displays the pictures when I check using that. I'm interested to see if anyone else is experiencing a similar issue.

PDF for link building - avoiding duplicate content
Hello, We've got an article that we're turning into a PDF. Both the article and the PDF will be on our site. This PDF is a good, thorough piece of content on how to choose a product. We're going to strip out all of the links to our in the article and create this PDF so that it will be good for people to reference and even print. Then we're going to do link building through outreach since people will find the article and PDF useful. My question is, how do I use rel="canonical" to make sure that the article and PDF aren't duplicate content? Thanks.

Is it possible for a multi doctor practice to have the practice's picture displayed in Google's SERP?
Google now includes pictures of authors in the results of the pages. Therefore, a single practice doctor can include her picture into Google's SERP (http://markup.io/v/dqpyajgz7jkd). How can a multi doctor practice display the practice's picture as opposed to a single doctor? A search for Plastic Surgery Chicago displayed this (query: plastic surgery Chicago) http://markup.io/v/bx3f28ynh4w5. I found one example of a search result showing a picture of both doctors for a multi doctor practice (query: houston texas plastic surgeon). http://markup.io/v/t20gfazxfa6h
