What Can I Do To Improve The SEO of My Site?
-
We have a website that is ranking okay but we can't seem to get past #6 or #7 for a specific national keyword, "self storage software". We are working on a more effective back-linking strategy right now, but we really are having a hard time identifying steps to take besides that.
If anyone can help me out and give me some suggestions I would be very appreciative. Maybe even seeing a competitive analysis from someone else would help catch something that I am not seeing.
Website is www.storageunitsoftware.com
Thanks in advance.

Hi Roman,
Thanks for the great info. For the keywords you want to rank for on a page, should you be using those exact same keywords in the below format? Do you use the same keywords in the anchor text? Or should you be using as many different and good (appropriate keyword difficulty, volume etc ) keywords as possible in this format?
3 keywords max:
<url>www.mysite.com/my-keyword-phrase</url>
<page title="">2 keywords max <title>Primary Keyword - Secondary Keyword - Brand</title></page>
2 keywords max:
keywords in my headers
2 keywords max:
keywords in my headers
![keyword](image file)
<focus keyword="">1 with Yoast</focus>
<anchor text="">Primary Keword-Secondary Keyword phrase (link to another page on your site) </anchor>
For Anchor text, you said this is a previous comment:
"Please try to avoid exact match on your anchor text, so use related keywords_ self storage software, self storage management software, software for self storage, self storage software programs"_
So that is why I thought one might want to have different highly ranking keywords in the above format.
Excited to see what you have to say!
Emma

Ok this is your website
www.storageunitsoftware.com- Domain Authority --> 40
- Linking Domains --> 975
- Inbound Links --> 15.9K
This is your keyword
self storage softwareFirst of all, let's evaluate your optimization level for this specific keyword
Moz Pro > Project > On-Page Grader
The results show me a Page Score of 92Some aspect that you can improve
Add your keyword to the page title and your header _(honestly, I don't think that will work but it will not hurt you)_Now let analyze your keyword self storage software
Moz
- Difficulty: 30
- CTR: 53%
- Volume: 101-200
Ahrefs
- Difficulty: 24
- Volume: 450
- You'll need backlinks from ~27 websites to rank in top 10 for this keyword
Semrush
- Difficulty: 46.98
- Volume: 320
Now let's analyze your anchor text, keep in mind that content and links are the most relevant ranking factor on every SEO campaign, Content because if the content is weak even with great link building you will lose your rank, you can get the top 1 and then lose it and Link Building because Google basically its a script that follow links, if there is no link there is no value.
Analyzing your case your TOP ANCHOR TEXT, it's obvious that they have no relevance to the keyword that you want to rank on this case self storage software, even your internal links has no value or relation to what you are
**let's take the top 5 anchor phrases from external links > Moz Report **
- _[no anchor text] _
- easy storage solutions
- make a payment
- pay online
- rent now
Ahrefs shows me similar results your anchor terms does not match with that keyword, just to make sure I ran an audit with Semrush and showed me similar results.
I mean, you can not expect to rank for the keyword self storage softwareif your internal and external links use anchor text such as view website, rsmedia or even worst no anchor
So how you can fix it?
Work on your site structure
You need to create an internal links structure to improve your visibility for the keywords that you want to rank basically, you will run a link building campaign in your own site using the anchor text as keywords.
Work on link building and outreach
You need to run an outreach campaign, basically, you will create a content campaign related to the topic that you want to rank this case self-storage software, and then outreach other blog and pages related to your audience and users. Another good alternative is to reach out to the owners of the sites who are linking to your site and improve the anchor text, there are a lot of links without anchor text
I made a quick research and found 114 tech blog who accept guest posting. These are some real examples of what Im talking about.

Domain Authority --> 91
Submissions Page

Domain Authority --> 66

Submissions Page

This is a real and actionable plan, keep in mind that I do not know your competition and how is their performance, but with this advice, you can start to compete.

Hi there!
I remember seeing this Whiteboard Friday by Rand which may provide some food for thought: https://moz.com/blog/why-pages-rank-poorly
While your pages aren't ranking overly 'poorly' it may spark some ideas.
As you mentioned looking into building up the backlinks to these pages both internally and externally is a good strategy. Hopefully the above may give you some new avenues to look at.
Cheers,
Casey

Messy older site
I am taking over a website that doesn't have any canonical tags and spotty redirects. It looks like they have http://, https://, www and non-www pages indexed but GA is just set up for the http://non-www home page. Should all versions of the site be set up in GA and Search Console? I think so but wanted to confirm. Thanks in advance.

Transferring a site to wordpress and its effect on SEO
I have a site that is hosted on a very old platform and would like to move it to WordPress. We are a surf shop and the summer months are the busiest for us. I want like to make sure that if I transfer my site that it won't hurt our rankings in any way. What would the best way of doing this be? i.e start building the WordPress site and once it is finished, point the domain to it? Will this have any ramifications for our rank? Thank you!

Has anyone used paid services to help improve their site
Hi, i am getting lots of spam in my mail box about how companies can help you get more traffic and i see on lots of sites about tools that can bring you more traffic and help improve your site, and i am just wondering if anyone has tried any of these services or products to help promote their site. For example, i keep getting sent about submitting my site to over 200 directories or search engines and just wondering if these are a waste of time.

Should I create mini-sites with keyword rich domain names pointing to my main site?
Hi, I'm new to seomoz (and seo in general) and loving it so far. My main domain name is more of a brandname than a search engine friendly list of keywords. I rank well for some keywords I optimized for, and less so for the more competitive keywords. I was wondering if making one page minisites hosted on keyword rich domain names could help in this respect? What I want to do is just have a single page with a few paragraphs of content and links to the main site. I am not looking for links to boost the main site, just for the minisites to do better for several keywords. Will this help? Is this ok, or against some Google policy? Can this hurt the main site rankings? Thank you! **Edit: **I noticed that sites ranking above me on the first page for some keywords have much less on-page elements than my page, have about the same domain trust and also very little inbound links. The only factor I can see is the exact match of keywords in the domain name.

I just found something weird I can't explain, so maybe you guys can help me out.
I just found something weird I can't explain, so maybe you guys can help me out. In Google http://www.google.nl/#hl=nl&q=internet. The number 3 result is a big telecom provider in the Netherland called Ziggo. The ranking URL is https://www.ziggo.nl/producten/internet/. However if you click on it you'll be directed to https://www.ziggo.nl/#producten/internet/ HttpFox in FF however is not showing any redirects. Just a 200 status code. The URL https://www.ziggo.nl/#producten/internet/ contains a hash, so the canonical URL should be https://www.ziggo.nl/. I can understand that. But why is Google showing the title and description of https://www.ziggo.nl/producten/internet/, when the canonical URL clearly is https://www.ziggo.nl/? Can anyone confirm my guess that Google is using the bulk SEO value (link juice/authority) of the homepage at https://www.ziggo.nl/ because of the hash, but it's using the relevant content of https://www.ziggo.nl/producten/internet/ resulting in a top position for the keyword "internet".
