Best URL when adding an SSL certificate . . .
-
Our (small) company is a little late to the party on this, and we've only just realised that we're better off with an SSL certificate for our website. (Yes I know, I know, but we dropped SEO some time ago after getting severely bitten by a certain Penguin, and are only just making tentative step back to it after those intervening years, so we're running to get back up to date with these things.)
This has now been implemented, but our web guy has dropped the 'www' element during the process.
Our http://domain.com address has always historically been redicrected to our main http://www.domain.com address.
Now our web guy has implemented the SSL cert, our website URL is appearing as https://domain.com, and he has redirected the http://www.domain.com to that new URL.
Obviously all our historic (and more recent) link building has been to the http://www.domain.com address.
Is this an issue, should the new Https URL keep the 'www', or does it make no difference what so ever?
Conversely could it actually be of benefit dropping the 'www.' because our keyword specific product URL's are now 4 characters closer to the http and 4 digits shorter?
Finally, on the links we have control of (professional trade associations etc) do we need to ask them to change the links to the new Https address, or does the transition from Http to Https make no difference?

When installing an SSL certificate on a website, the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) you use to access it should include the "https://" protocol scheme rather than "http://". Here's the preferred URL format:
Example like (In this URL): https://www.example.com
https: This protocol signifies that the connection is secured with SSL/TLS encryption. It is critical for securely transmitting sensitive information across the internet.
www.example.com: This is the domain name for your website. Replace "www.example.com" with your actual domain.
Using "https" rather than "http" means that the communication between the user's browser and the web server is encrypted, resulting in a secure and private connection. It's particularly crucial for websites that handle sensitive information, such as login credentials, personal details, or financial transactions.
In addition to changing the URL, you need set up your web server to enforce HTTPS, so that all requests are automatically forwarded to the secure version of your website. This helps to ensure a consistent and secure user experience.
If you're making this modification on a popular web server like Apache or Nginx, you may need to alter your server configuration files to allow SSL and set up the SSL certificate. Refer to your web server's manual for detailed instructions relevant to your environment.

When you are adding an SSL certificate in your website. Its a need to consider whether you want to use "www" or not. Both options are valid, and the choice depends on your preference and the structure you want for your website's URLs.

Hi Wookii,
I had the same problem as you have. In my opinion there is not much difference in www with or without. You can read more about it at this link from Moz: https://moz.com/community/q/should-i-get-an-ssl-if-my-non-ssl-site-is-ranking-well
All the best,

Has anyone ever tested to see if having an ads.txt file provided any SEO lift?
I know that the ads.txt system is designed to prevent ad fraud and technically has nothing to do with search. That said, the presence of such a file would seem to be an indicator of overall site quality because it would show that a site owner wants to participate in a fraud-free system. Has anyone ever tested that? If so, they don't seem to have published their results. Maybe it's a secret weapon that some pros are using and not sharing?

URL Re-Mapping Question ?. Do I need to the theme of my business in my url struture even though GWT knows what my site is about
Hi All, I have currently planning to do some url remapping on my Hire Website as alot of most important pages are far to many levels deep from the root domain. This is also making my sitemap not tidy etc. In GWT, Google knows that the theme is my website is Hire as it's the top word. Therefore do I still need to use the word hire in all my new url categories / structures or not ? Examples http://goo.gl/BFmvk2 I was thinking of remapping to www.xxxxxxx.xco.uk/tool-hire-birmingham http://goo.gl/pC9Bdp I was thinking of remapping to www.xxxxxx.co.uk/cleaning-equipment Notice in the later example , I do not have the word rent in the url. Any advice is much appreciated thanks peter

Best techniques for trying to rank a single page website?
I am new to SEO and am currently trying to market a single page website. Its proving to be hard. I have managed to get the site to page one for a few keywords and it is improving (upto page 2 for some desired keywords) but it seems to have stuck there for a few weeks now - with no movement. I am able to develop it if required. However I thought that I would just ask if there was anything that could give it a nudge without this? I have done on-site optimisation. As far as I'm aware that's about as good as it can be. So any advice?

ECWID Ecommerce Sites. No Custom URLS?
Is there any way possible to be able to name product urls in website that use ECWID for their ecommerce? They have long and "dirty" urls. For example this running boards site: http://www.runningboards4less.com/general-motors#!/~/product/category=6593890&id=28043027 Isn't this hurting the overall SEO of the site? Especially product pages?

301 Redirect ! Joomla Pages, Already ranking. ( just wanted to change the url
hey guys hope everyone had a new year. I am ranking for a page on my site that i want to ( not specifically move ), but just change the url name: It is too long i think and i want to move it from one portion of my architecture to another menu. I have never physically done a 301 redirect myself, always had someone do it for me. I wanted some pointers. Since it is a fairly new site 4 months old! What are my options. Do i need to 301 redirect the page, if i am changing the Structure and AI of my site, or can i just change the url as is and it will still get ranked? How do i keep that url put delete the page and redirect it ? Sorry its very simple but i wanted to get the communities help to continue on ! Best Wishes HAmpig

URL parameters causing duplicate content errors
My ISP implemented product reviews. In doing so, each page has a possible parameter string of ?wr=1. I am not receiving duplicate page content and duplicate page title errors for all my product URLs. The report shows the base URL and the base URL?wr=1. My ISP says that the search engines won't have a problem with the parameters and a check of Google Webmaster Tools for my site says I don't have any errors and recommends against configuring URL parameters. How can I get SEOmoz to stop reporting these errors?

Optimzing a new ecommerce site, Need help with URL
Hi We are putting up a new ecommerce website and for product description, our tech team indicates that they must have the skun numbers in the URL. Which one of the following URL structure do you find the most SEO freindly? 1. http://www.Site.com/SKUNumber/ProductDescription/ or 2. http://www.Site.com/ProductDescription/SKUNumber/ My personal opinion is that most relevant content should be on load page so I like option 1. Thanks
