How do I create a segment that shows me all pages using a certain keyword? But nothing that doesn't have that keyword?
-
There must be an easy answer to this, but I can't seem to find it.
All I want to do is create a segment in Google Analytics that shows all pages and search strings with "orthopaedics" in the title, with pageviews, uniques etc.
If I simply navigate to "All Pages" in Google Analytics and then click Advanced Filters and do an Include Page Contains "orthopaedics" it works just fine. (See attached Screen Shot)
But when I try to recreate this as a segment, it pulls in all other pages the users visited before arriving on the orthopaedics page I want to include, which I don't want. I can manually exclude each URL I don't want, but this is tedious and I feel there must be a simpler method I'm just missing.
At the end of the day, I'm trying to create a list of every page and dynamically created query string that includes the word "orthopaedics" to say doctor X, your orthopaedics section generated X views, and here's a list of the pages.

OK cool, I want to make sure I am answering you properly. You mention above that you'd like to say "X amount of unique website visits (or X amount of users) came to this set of landing pages" but also that you don't want to exclude sessions that started on another page. I'm going to assume that the questions you want to answer are;
- How many sessions visited Ortho pages at any point
- How many users visited Ortho pages at any point.
If you would like some help setting up the custom segment do let me know but it makes perfect sense that that segment would include non-Ortho pages when you go to the all pages report. As you say above, you are happy to see sessions which include users visiting other pages, even sessions where users visit non-Ortho pages first of all. So both of the following can be true;
- The segment is showing you only sessions which included a visit to an Ortho page
- The segment includes page hits to non-Ortho pages.
The key difference is that when you filter the all pages report you are saying "only show information about the following pages" and when you apply the segment you are saying "only show information about the following sessions/users". Does that make sense?
You will need to set up separate segments to get the total number of sessions and total number of users who ever visit the Ortho pages, assuming you are using the Sequences part of the GA segments builder, you'll want the following settings (which you may have already applied);
For sessions
- Include
- Sessions
- Sequence start: Any user interaction
- Step 1 - Page contains: ortho (etc.)
For users
For sessions
- Include
- Users
- **Sequence start: **Any user interaction
- Step 1 - Page contains: ortho (etc.)
Once you have those segments applied, you can go to any of the unfiltered GA reports which give total session and user numbers and record those numbers as appropriate.
Hope that helps!

I just want to say X amount of unique website visits (or X amount of users) came to this set of landing pages. In this case Orthopaedics. I think in my screen shot that's precisely what I'm retrieving, but perhaps I'm interpreting that wrong.
I don't just want to capture landing pages for Ortho, because many people start elsewhere, visit an Ortho page and then visit some other page in a different section. I just want all the traffic related to Ortho pages though, and none of the pages related to other sections in the report.
Like I said, I can exclude those other pages from the report, but it's a tedious process.
Thanks Robin for taking the time to try and help me.

Hi there Patrick!
So by the sounds of things, what you are looking for is Landing Pages, rather than just Pages. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you would like to know how many sessions started on "orthopaedics" pages right? If you go to Landing Pages rather than All Pages in the Content report and filter it just the same way, you'll be able to see the number of sessions which landed on the pages you've filtered to.
Does that help?

Can't see backlinks in Search Console
Hello, We have 7 sites and have noticed that for one site, we don't see any backlink info in Search Console even if it's been linked for over 8 months. Other tools show thousands of backlinks, but Search Console is still pending. I also see very little info in regards to Performance even if we are getting thousands of hits a day. Could this be a sign of a bigger problem? In summary, the site is up and running, getting hits, getting backlinks, but Search Console still looks like it's a new site with no activity several months after being installed.

Google Analytics Goal/Event/SOMETHING to show only Wordpress "Posts", not pages, etc
Hi all, Our site is build on Wordpress and formerly the post URL's had the typical date format at the beginning. This made it easy for me to look at, for example, all search traffic to the blog. I would just view URL's containing /2014/ and /2015/ and boom. We have since removed the dates from the URL's with proper redirects etc, which is great, but now I can't figure out a way to look at ONLY the blog in GA. I like to track a KPI of 'search visits to blog posts' and I can't figure out how to now. Can I set up a GA event that only fires when the post type template for blog posts loads? Some other solution? I'm lost here, and there's gotta be a good way to do it...

What is click2.scour, and why is it showing up as Referral Traffic in Google Analytics?
I've noticed that a couple of my clients in the insurance industry have been receiving a pretty large boost in Referral Traffic from a source called click2.scour.com and click2.efacts.com. What surprises me most is that the traffic has a low Bounce Rate, a high Avg. Visit Duration, and is made up of 100% New Visits. What is this? Why would they be getting so much traffic from these two sources all of a sudden? Thanks in advance for your help!

GA: How can non related kws show up in the organic report?
Hi mozzers, I have a site A: www.example.com (with its own branded kws) SiteB: subdomain.example.com Site A and B are related and belong to the same company. Site B was released a couple months ago. ISSUE: I have noticed branded kws from Site A showing up on Site B's GA which doesn't make any sense. I try to make searches in the SE with those kws and not a single search showed the Site B(subdomain). What is weird is that 2 months ago had a an issue with bounce rate on site B showing a 0% bounce rate, then I discovered that we had 2 GATC on site, removed the extra code and bounce was back to normal. Since then I have seen a rise of branded kws from Site A to Site B. Can someone help me here figuring out what is wrong? Thanks

Has anyone experienced Google Analytics track the page visit to a "thank you" page, but not the goal conversion?
Has anyone experienced where Google Analytics would track the page visit to a "thank you" page, but not the goal conversion that should result? The goal had worked for a long time as it is as just a goal url with head match. No funnel. Not case sensitive. For about four days now, no conversions have been recorded, but Google Analytics shows hundreds of people visited the page that should trigger the goal. Additionally, we have received the hundreds of leads. A Screaming Frog search shows the code is embedded throughout the site. For the interested, the GA code looks like (and the 8 Xs are the correct number on the site): Am I missing something?

Google Analytics Organic Keyword (Not Provided) Alternative Hacks?
I'm sure everyone is sick of the (Not Provided) keywords because I know I am, and Google reckons that you should only see 10% or less (I'm currently around 13% and growing). I am seeking alternatives or hacks that will help display the keywords? If you have a hack to actually display the keywords, please share it your ideas and thoughts? I recently implemented a hack that will show the landing page of the keywords which is better than nothing. But as an eCommerce site, I have about 10% of my transactions which not provided, knowing the keywords would really help. Would love to hear your thoughts?
