Meta Robots information
-
Hi, I have a question about the Meta Robots information
Accoarding to the Moz bar, our page uses the meta robots noodp and noydir.
Our competitor uses
INDEX,FOLLOWI read that noodp and noydir are dated and not used anymore. Is it wise to use INDEX FOLLOW instead for better SEO?
Thanks in advance!

Hey Daniel and Mazen,
That clears things up, thanks a lot !

I fully agree with all that was mentioned here. Index and DoFollow are the defaults if you haven't specified anything different.

The noodp and noydir tags are archaic, so they are not used by search engines anymore.
They were used to notify the search engines not to retrieve data for your website from open directories or from Yahoo. Right now they are not used because now the search engines retrieve all the data from your site meta tags or content.
Regarding index and follow tags, you don't have to use them as they are set active by default. You just remove noodp and noydir (They don't affect anything, anyway) and you'll be good to go.

Google cuts meta title after 60 characters and meta description after 130 characters. Is this new?
Hey community, We noticed, that our meta's are cutted after much lesser characters then it used to. Mainly after 130-135. Did i miss something? Should we basically consider to write meta's constantly with lesser then 130 characters instead of the advised 160 characters? Cheers, Boris

Why is Google replacing my meta title with the business name on home page?
For all queries that return the home page, Google is not showing my meta title. Instead it replaced it with the official business name which of course makes it harder to rank for key terms since they don't exist now in the meta title. You can see this is you search on "mt view estate planning attorney". The site in question is dureelaw.com and the title showing is "The Law Office of Daniel L. DuRee." View the source and you'll see my meta title. Why is Google substituting it?

Would This Be Highlighted as Duplicate Meta Desc?
Due to the nature of our business we literally have hundreds of web pages and so we recently asked our Web Developers to create the Meta Description for many of the pages that they create - unfortunately they don't seem to understand SEO but before I go back to them I wanted to run this by the MOZ Community... Here is a snippet of the Meta Desc they have created, personally I'm not happy with it BUT I need to be certain on one thing... Will Google determine that it is (almost) duplicated Meta content? Meta Title for Category Pages
I am trying to improve the SEO for a few key category pages on my blog. I have two ranking really well so I want to boost them and bring up some others. Can I put two keywords in the meta title? Example: Maternity Deals | Pregnancy Deals Or should I just stick with one? Thanks!

How do you block development servers with robots.txt?
When we create client websites the urls are client.oursite.com. Google is indexing theses sites and attaching to our domain. How can we stop it with robots.txt? I've heard you need to have the robots file on both the main site and the dev sites... A code sample would be groovy. Thanks, TR
