Single Folder vs Root
-
I'm working on a multi-state attorney website and I'm going back and forth on URL's. I thought I'd see what the community thinks.
lawsite.com/los-angeles/car-accident-lawyer vs. lawsite.com/los-angeles-car-accident-lawyer
I should note this site will have over a dozen city locations, with different practices.
-
My Friend,
I think that is fine. I would do that.
I wish you all the best in your project!
-
Dont overblow it really. I'm working on that too right now with positive effects, i.e /subject/another-subject/, it would be good if you link all the independent pages from /subject/ as well including a dropdown menu on /subject/ with all /another-subjects/.
-
Agreed, thanks!
-
Thanks for the great reply. Yes, quite a few practice areas. So it sounds like I should go the city folder route.
Follow up question; think I should do /westcehster-attorney/slip-and-fall-accident-lawyer, or am I getting a little spammy?
-
I recommend Joseph's approach. There are many benefits to this approach: manageability, scalability, and seo. You can address all the practice areas available in specific locations as well as rank the firm more strongly in each location by key of relevance.
-
Hello Friend,
Good question.
Are they only doing car accident cases? I assume that they are doing more.
Doing a folder for the city will allow you to create a hub city page that should link out to different practices for that city, and they should all link back to support the hub page. See how they did it.
https://mirmanlawyers.com/westchester/ (tier 2, pillar page, hub page)
https://mirmanlawyers.com/westchester/car-accident-lawyer/
https://mirmanlawyers.com/westchester/slip-and-fall-accident-lawyer/
If you only have one practice to focus one, I suggest you go for the. lawsite.com/los-angeles-car-accident-lawyer, but if you have many practices, I would go for lawsite.com/los-angeles/car-accident-lawyer and create a valuable sub-page for each practice and each location.
I wish you the best of luck with your project!

Avoiding duplicate content in manufacturer's [of single product] website
Hello, So I have read a lot of articles about duplicate content/ keyword canibalism/ competing with yourself, and so on. But none of these articles really fit to manufacturer website who produces one product. For example, lets say I make ceramic tiles, this means: Homepage: "Our tiles are the best tiles, we have numerous designs of tiles. We make them only from natural ceramic" Product list: "Here is a list of our tiles: Poesia tile, white tile, textured tile, etc" Page for each tile: Gallery: a bunch of images trying to prove that these tiles look best 🙂 Where to buy page: a map From what I understand this page is already doomed - it will not go well against larger retailers who don't focus only on tiles but they sell everything. This page is set to have a lot of duplicate content. But I hope I am wrong, can someone please make some suggestions how to do SEO on such a website where all pages are about the same thing? Any help would be much appreciated! Juris

2 Title elements on a single page
Hi there. I am looking at a site that currently has 2
elements present on every page through out the site. They have a main Title with appropriate optimization. Then they have another
that appears to be empty. It looks like this;

I know having 2
elements is not ideal. But if the second one is empty, can it still have a negative affect?

Thanks

SEO implications of serving a different site on HTTPS vs. HTTP
I have two sites: Site A, and Site B. Both sites are hosted on the same IP address, and server using IIS 7.5. Site B has an SSL cert, and Site A does not. It has recently been brought to my attention that when requesting the HTTPS version of Site A (the site w/o an SSL cert), IIS will serve Site B... Our server has been configured this way for roughly a year. We don't do any promotion of Site A using HTTPS URLs, though I suppose somebody could accidentally link to or type in HTTPS and get the wrong website. Until we can upgrade to IIS8 / Windows Server 2012 to support SNI, it seems I have two reasonable options: Move Site B over to its own dedicated IP, and let HTTPS requests for Site A 404. Get another certificate for Site A, and have it's HTTPS version 301 redirect to HTTP/non-ssl. #1 seems preferable, as we don't really need an SSL cert for Site A, and HTTPS doesn't really have any SEO benefits over HTTP/non-ssl. However, I'm concerned if we've done any SEO damage to Site A by letting our configuration sit this way for so long. I could see Googlebot trying https versions of websites to test if they exist, even if there aren't any ssl/https links for the given domain in the wild... In which case, option #2 would seem to mostly reverse any damage done (if any). Though Site A seems to be indexed fine. No concerns other than my gut. Does anybody have any recommendations? Thanks!

OR 301 Each page which has an extension to an extension-less version, and remove all linking to ".html" site wide causing errors within software like Dreamweaver, but working properly. Duplicate Title - Magento Products / Kunena Forum - Nofollow vs. Follow
Hello Mozzers! This is my first post so hopefully I can explain this in a way that is clear! I just signed up for my PRO membership and wanted to finally start hacking away at this companies site that I work for. I ran my report and noticed my Crawl Diagnostics: 715 Dupliate Page Titles I noticed that a lot those were coming from the customer login in magento. So I added the: User-agent: *Disallow:/customer/ as mentioned in this link: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10742052/duplicate-content-issues-for-login-page Any suggestions on that? Also, We have a Kunena forum on our site and have noticed all of the nofollow links. People say I should change them to follow links, but other people say leave them or I will get penalized. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Does link juice pass along the URL or the folders? 10yr old PR 6 site
We have a website that is ~10yrs old and a PR 6. It has a bunch of legitimate links from .edu and .gov sites. Until now the owner has never blogged or added much content to the site. We have suggested that to grow his traffic organically he should add a worpress blog and get agressive with his content. The IT guy is concerned about putting a wordpress blog on the same server as the main site because of security issues with WP. They have a bunch of credit card info on file. So, would it be better to just put the blog on a subdomain like blog.mysite.com OR host the blog on another server but have the URL structure be mysite.com/blog? I have tried to pass as much juice as possible. Any ideas?
