Competing Pages for Ranking Keywords?

Hey there,
My client has this existing page which ranks for rentals-related keywords that are product type specific - i.e. electric wheelchair rentals, mobility scooter rentals, etc.

I recently made a rentals page for each product type to try and really target those keywords that the rentals page is ranking for.
Is this a problem? Is the potential nature of the pages competing for the keywords a real issue?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah, I don't disagree with you. Algorithmic filtering and ranking doesn't work exactly as intended, and there are ways to work around it as you point out. Generally, cannibalization shouldn't occur, but it does happen in some circumstances.

I'm not sure I agree here - I have seen a few cases where pages which aren't exact duplicates compete with each other for specific keywords and end up dragging each other down. Removing that competition helped push us from page 3 to around position 5.
That's not to say that this will definitely be a problem for you, I just couldn't say that it definitely won't. If I were you I'd use a rank tracking tool to monitor which pages are ranking for the keywords you care about, and how well. If you keep an eye out for cannibalisation then you can take quick action. If you end up just ranking better then you don't need to do anything.

No, thankfully you don't encounter the issue of cannibalization between pages. Google or other search engines may use the more targeted page if it's determined to be more relevant , however if it's not determined to be more relevant you will get the page that's already ranked. It won't pull your other page down, however if you are just duplicating the content from the main page, the search engine may choose to skip indexing the new pages overall.
Overall, this should help and not hurt.

Does Google do keyword matching when deciding whether to rank a page?
Hi, another newbie question on keyword research and selection (can't find any information on-line with this low level of detail)... If I've decided that my primary keyword for a given product page is the product name, something like 'AquaPower wet and dry cordless vacuum cleaner', can I assume that it isn't worth additionally optimising the page for 'cordless vacuum' as this has a phrase match in the primary keyword? Is it still worth additionally optimising for 'wet and dray vacuum' which has a broad match within the primary keyword or is Google bright enough to drop the intervening word 'cordless' when deciding whether to rank my page? Thanks for any guidance on this.

Selecting keywords
hello, i am using google adwords search terms to find keywords, first of all is that a good practice? Setting Up a Keyword Matrix
Greetings MOZ community!! My real estate web site contains about 500 pages with perhaps 70 pages targeting low volume, somewhat valuable but not very competitive keywords. Three to four URLs target very competitive terms. The following terms are among the most valuable: New York City office space,

ETCETERA convert really well How would I match different terms to different URLs? For example I have just re-written the following two critical URLs: www.nyc-officespace-leader.com (home page)
http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/commercial-space/office-space (product page) Would it make sense to use "Manhattan office space" and variants on the home page while excluding "New York City office space" variants? At the same time I would use "New York City office space" variants on the "office-space" product page while excluding all mention of "Manhattan office space". Is this logical and does it conform to SEO best practices? For the "NYC office space" terms I would add them to http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/listings. This URL has almost no text but a strong potential to rent because of a high number of incoming internal links. Is this approach sensible? In general what measures should I take to prevent URLs from competing for the same keywords? Also, is there a software package or tools that I can use to come up with keyword variants? Keywords with and without diacritics
Hi, I am trying to make my site to appear in the search results even the searched term have or have not been wrote with diacritics for example: "șarpe" or "sarpe". The language is Romanian. If I seach for "Românul cu maşină, marea victimă" or "Romanul cu masina, marea victima" the first result for both searches is the same. How can I easily track multiple keywords for multiple pages?
We are creating landing pages to target keywords, and would like to be able to have something set up so at a glance we can see each page's rank for its targeted keyword. For example, if we have pages with the URLs of example.com/sites/purple-widgets, example.com/sites/purple-widgets-for-cheap, example.com/sites/cheap-purple-widgets, etc., we'd like to see the rank of each of those pages for their respective keyword ("purple widgets", "purple widget for cheap", "cheap purple widgets", etc.).
