Influence of users' comments on a page (on-page SEO)
-
Do you think when Google crawls your page, it "monitors" comments updates to use this as a ranking factor? If Google is looking for social signs, looking for comments updates might be a social sign as well (ok a lot easier to manipulate, but still social).
thx

Do you think comments are a ranking factor because of the keyword usage or because search engines can check comment count, for instance?
How a search engine can determine who comment if it's a local comment system? What about facebook comments?
-
I think comments are a ranking factor. I think that we will also see who comments (i.e. author rank) become more important than merely having comments too.

Ahhh, Gotchya! That's not a bad idea. Biggest factor I would see with them doing is how to determine which comments were authentic. Seems like the majority of site owners don't understand how scrapebox (comment kahuna, fast blog finder, DoFellow) works and will approve SOME spam no matter what.
I would definitely be interested in seeing posts with high quality dialogging going on though. Maybe another reason they are pushing the +1 button..

I was talking about blog comments. In a high competitive market it might be interesting for Google to list sites with more traffic (or higher user engagement = # of likes = # of tweets = # of comments updates) on top.
I had this question because I've just added Facebook comments into my page and I'm going to use their graph API to load comments and put it within the page (so Google can crawl Facebook comments).
The only bad thing about comments is that they usually are very shallow in terms of keyword usage.
thx

Are you talking about blog comments or comments on social media wall posts/tweets?
If you were referring to, comments within your domain, they can see the last updated info about the page and may come back the new comments.
When new content is added through the comments, then they can determine more/less relevance of the page via KW saturation and outbound link anchor text & destinations. It wouldn't really be a social signal, just one that tells the search engine the page is still be used/spammed. Probably couldn't determine too much from that!

I have 100+ Landing Pages I use for PPC... Does Google see this as a blog farm?
I am currently using about 50-100 domains for geotargeted landing pages for my PPC campaigns. All these pages basically have the same content, I believe are hosted on a single unique ip address and all have links back to my main url. I am not using these pages for SEO at all, as I know they will never achieve any significant SEO value. They are simply designed to generate a higher conversion rate for my PPC campaigns, because they are state and city domains. My question is, does google see this as a blog/link farm, and if so, what should I do about it? I don't want to lose any potential rankings they may be giving my site, if any at all, but if they are hurting my main urls SEO performance, then I want to know what I should do about it. any advice would be much appreciated!

A Sitemap Web page & A Sitemap in htaccess - will a website be penalised for having both?
Hi I have a sitemap url already generated by SEO Yoast in the htaccess file, and I have submitted that to the search engines. I'd already created a sitemap web page on the website, also as a helpful aid for users to see a list of all page urls. Is this a problem and could this scenario create duplicate issues or any problems with search engines? Thanks.

Ajax Pagination on Ecommerce category pages - Good or Bad?
We have an ecommerce site. We installed an AJAX feature that when you scroll down to say, the end of 6 rows of products, it loads another page below the seam. Question is, is this good or bad for SEO? Any tests you can suggest? Thanks Ben

Local Doorway Pages
Based on what I've read, setting up localized landing pages ie: /web-design-atlanta, web-design-nyc, /web-design-chicago, etc especially with duplicate content is a big no-no. Remarkably, 2 of our competitors are doing it, (they are just swapping out the locations), and it's working. They don't even have office addresses or local phone numbers listed. They are on the first page for multiple location based searches ("web design nyc", "web design atlanta", etc.). I thought Google penalized for this, or at least didn't index the content. What gives? Am I misinterpreting Google's AUP? Can I report them? If it's legal, we should be doing it as well.

Multiple links to different pages from same page
Hey, I have an opportunity to get listed in a themed directory page, that has a high mozRank of 4+ and a high mozTrust of 5+. Would it be better to just have one link from that page going to one of my internal product category pages, or take advantage of the 'sitelinks' they offer, that allows me to have an additional 5 anchor text links to 5 other pages? I've attached an example. sitelinks.jpg
