Google Trends Data Weird Since 1/1/2022
-
I am finding several instances of weird data drop offs on Google Trends at 1/1/2022. It seems like it's for data associated with a type/category as opposed to a search term. Here are some examples of "search interest" dropping suddenly off to next-to-nothing for prominent brands.
- Patagonia / clothing company
- Lands' End / clothing company
- Carhartt / workwear company
Example screenshot.
Does anyone know what the cause of this is? Has Google stated anything directly about why the data suddenly changed so significantly?

Google Trends data can appear strange due to seasonal patterns, news events, geographic variations, data sampling, facebook ads cloaking spelling differences, data lag, and other factors. Interpreting this data requires considering these aspects and analyzing it in the context of your research.

@LivDetrick Yes - you are pointing toward is important to notice - it can be a data glitch from google, but there is an event that is "Corona", that might make them to shift there strategy work around, like shifting the traffic from web to app or might be people preference of search have changed......
Until we do not study each business in detail its difficult to say.

Google Trends data may appear unusual since January 1, 2022, due to various factors, including data anomalies, seasonal trends, algorithm updates, local influences, privacy measures, and changes in user behavior. To better understand these changes, check the date range, compare different search terms, and consider external events. If the issue persists, consult Google's official resources for updates and explanations.

@Suvidit-Academy thanks for the response, however, it seems terribly unlikely that these brands all had a legitimate massive fall off in search interest all on the exact same date...

Hello. Sometimes I get bored, but I know a game that will help me have fun. I visited the website https://linkaviator.com/lucky-jet/. This site offers a large list of casinos with the Aviator game. The biggest advantage of this site is that it contains information to help you get started playing the game, as well as casinos that have reviews and feedback from real users."

The drop-off in Google Trends data for prominent brands like Patagonia, Lands' End, and Carhartt on 1/1/2022 may be due to various factors, including potential changes in how Google collects and presents data, privacy policy updates, or fluctuations in search interest for those brands. It's essential to consider that Google Trends data can have occasional anomalies or inconsistencies, and it's advisable to cross-reference this data with other sources for a comprehensive analysis.

The unusual data drop-offs on Google Trends around January 1, 2022, appear to affect not specific search terms but broader categories or types, as demonstrated by the sudden decline in "search interest" for prominent brands like Patagonia, Lands' End, and Carhartt. There may be various reasons for this phenomenon, such as changes in Google's algorithms or data collection methods. However, as of my last knowledge update in September 2021, Google had not publicly disclosed any specific reasons for such abrupt data changes. To get more accurate and up-to-date information, it would be advisable to check Google's official statements or contact their support.

Its a very nice observation, but to unearth the real reason need to understand that why people are searching for them like
- Carhartt is facing online boycott.
- Lands' End is struggling online, (https://www.digitalcommerce360.com/article/lands-end-ecommerce/), the article suggest that they are more focusing on Apps (might be connecting to the target audience directly on app).
- Patagonia - People are rating the company poorly (https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.patagonia.com)
So here is a small input from the quick google search that there is something people are not comfortable with these companies.

The significant drop-offs in search interest for prominent brands like Patagonia, Lands' End, and Carhartt on Google Trends starting from 1/1/2022 could be attributed to various factors, such as changes in user behavior, adjustments in how Google collects and reports data, or even seasonal variations. Google may not have explicitly stated the cause for these changes. It's possible that these shifts in data could be due to fluctuations in public interest or how Google processes and presents trend data. To get a clearer understanding of these changes, it would be advisable to reach out to Google's support or explore their documentation for any relevant updates.

Email traffic tracking in Google Analytics
Hello! I have a question about how to assure email traffic is properly tracked in GA > Acquisition > All Traffic > Channels. **First, some background... ** Our company (Wisconsin's largest group dental practice) is about to revamp the way we try to re-capture patients who don't have a future appointment set with us. Part of that process will include emails. Those emails will point back to our website to request an appointment. Now to the question... Is there anything special we should do to assure that links coming to the website and the resulting appointment request goal conversions track appropriately and appear under "Email" in the Default Channel Group of Analytics > Acquisition > All Traffic > Channels area of GA? For example, should we use Campaign URL Builder to establish UTM links? Thanks in advance for any feedback. Erik

How does Google measure page position in Webmasters?
Does anyone know exactly how Google measures page position in Webmaster Tools? For example: In Google Webmaster Tools, we had a product which on the 22/12/15 was at position 7, and then dropped to position 112 on the 30/12/15. It then rose back up to position 7 on the 6/01/16 and then down to position 25 on the 16/01/16. What does this mean and why?

Help w/ Google Event tracking w/ new Universal analytics.js
I want to implement Google event tracking after my visitors complete an estimate form. The form provides them an approximate range of costs based on their widget and widget amount. I have the php coding done, but I don't know JS and I need to send an event upon completion of the estimate form. However, all of Google's examples are button click events. How do I send the event upon completing a form if there is no separate landing page? If I have my Google analytics code on the page as well, would simply adding the following the completed estimate code work?

Localhost:4444 Showing Up in Google Analytics
Hello All, Lately in my Google Analytics account I have noticed a referral source labelled: localhost:4444 The number of visits is really high from this source, but I have no idea (no clue!) what it actually means. Can anyone shed some light on what this is about? Should I be creating some sort of filter to screen out this as a referral source (assuming it is not legitimate)? Many thanks in advance. Cheers!

Blocking our IP's but wondering if Google still uses our search data?
The company owner here has our (company) website as his home page. I excluded our static IP’s on Google Analytics, but is that good enough to keep Google from using his search traffic as an indicator of anything negative. Does Google still take into account his activity, but simply block it from my reporting? Finally, does one person actually have that kind of influence as far as time on site, bounce rates, etc. Should I convince him to find a new home page?

Conversion rates by browser & OS - any feedback/experts/experience?
Hi, Ive been evaluating conversion rates by operating system and by browser for a client. Ive picked up significant and somewhat disturbing trends. As you'd expect the bulk of traffic is coming from a Windows/Internet Explorer combination. This is unfortunately one of the worst combinations (Windows/Firefox & Windows/Safari did worse. Chrome/Windows was significantly the best combination with Windows). Windows also performs much worse than Mac. E.g. Windows/Firefox performs worse than Mac/Firefox. Overall conversion rate for Mac is 7.07% compared to 5.69% Windows. This is based on hundreds of thousands of visits and equates to tens of thousands of dollars difference in revenue. Generally later versions of browsers perform better on both main operating systems e.g IE 9.0 converts at 6.33% compared to 8.0 at 5.80% on Windows and Firefox 4.01 on the Mac converts at 7.57% compared to 3.6.16 at 6.54% (although this dataset is smaller than Windows/IE). Page load speeds (recorded in the clients analytics) are significantly faster on Mac than Windows (as expected really). Being Windows/IE and specifically Windows IE8 represents the bulk of traffic should we be addressing this? Will any optimisation negatively affect better performing Mac/Browser combinations? Understanding that Mac users equate to 'better' converting visitors - what else could be done there? Anyone have thoughts or experience on optimising pages for improved conversion rates via IE and Windows? Thanks in advance, Andy
