Is Wordpress good for SEO? If so, any tips? Do I need to set up as a subdomain so www.blog.mysite.com?

The best test case for the value of WordPress is to switch an existing site to WP from HTML as see the results. I have been impressed. I only use SEO optimized theme framework like headwaythemes.com genesis or thesis.
I find Yoast SEO buggy and redundant if you use a strong framework.

Out of the box, a self-hosted WordPress site is flawed when it comes to SEO. Your permalink structure will be poor, there is rampant duplicate content and titles, frankly it's a bit of a mess.
With a little work though, you can turn WordPress into a very SEO friendly platform. WordPress SEO by Yoast is an essential plugin in my mind, and makes things a whole lot easier.

Yea you want to run a "self-hosted wordpress" to get the real SEO value out of it. It's totally different than wordpress.com

The benefit of wordpress is you won't have to be programmer to fix duplicate url issues and a lot of the technical stuff. It's not that a wordpress site "ranks better" or something...it's just easier to keep technical issues from holding you back in my opinion.

You don't have to set up wordpress on a subdomain. And I probably wouldn't unless you're just looking to add a blog to your an existing site.
My opinion is that wordpress is hands down the most SEO-friendly CMS out there, and much less time-consuming to optimize than anything else. You can create clean permalinks in 2 clicks, it basically handles the .htaccess stuff for you. Also, the wordpress SEO plugin from Yoast makes it real easy optimize.

Thanks for the responses. i want to add the blog to my site to get the SEO value from it. I do not want it hosted at Wordpress. I'm confused how it would work in SEO terms. How do I get the SEO value out of wordpress.
So to answer your question its: "or just using a wordpress CMS on a domain you have such as "www.example.com"?"

Duplicate Content for Non-SEO Purposes There are a few layers to this question, but at the most basic level the question is... -Will having the same article (in the form of archived e-newsletter issues) on multiple different websites' newsletter archives HURT those sites? I'm fairly sure it won't HELP any of them in terms of SEO, but will having these back issues of their e-newsletters archived on their websites get them penalized? For the purpose of this question, these are not clients we are doing SEO for, just hosting and their e-newsletters. So it's fine if the archives provide no SEO benefit, we just don't want to leave them up if they will become LIABILITIES for the websites. -If having the same article in archived issues of e-newsletters on multiple different websites WOULD be harmful, would moving these archives to a sub-domain change anything or would it be best to simply take the archives down altogether? -Alternately, would spinning these articles make any difference in whether or not these sites get penalized? -Lastly, would spinning make the articles usable for archived e-newsletters for clients that ARE signed on for SEO services? It seems Disqus commenting system has grown and evolved so to make it easier to comment I've installed it on my 14 sites. I find moderation becomes much easier. Is Disqus SEO friendly and a part of an SEO process? (I checked the topic and only found one's dated back to 2011). Thanks, Don

Duplicate content problems, so why does WordPress post onto Tumblr?
Hi Everyone, Basically I know that if you have duplicate content your ranking is effected! This I understand, so why is it that WordPress has the option to post your blog entry straight onto your paired Tumblr account? Surely if this can be done, I can have the same content on the company website but also on WP and Tumblr? Or is there some sort of method to how it works specifically for those 2 websites? How to Handle SEO for Daily and Weekly Market Updates
I have a market news and education site focused on the bond market. Each day we have an end of day market wrapup piece. We also have several weekly pieces as well as pieces that come out once a month. My question is how should I handle these from an SEO standpoint? When someone searches for "bond market update" for example I want my latest piece to show up in the results. Similarly when someone searches for "savings bond interest rate forecast" I would also like the report for that month to be the one that they find. Please help me stop google indexing https pages on my wordpress site
I added SSL to my wordpress blog because that was the only way to get a dedicated IP address for my site at my host. Now I am noticing Google has started indexing posts both as http and https. Can some one please help how to force google not to index https as I am sure its like having duplicate content. All help is appreciated. So far I have added this to top of htaccess file: RewriteEngine on Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} ^443$ RewriteRule ^robots.txt$ robots_ssl.txt And added robots_ssl.txt with following: User-agent: Googlebot Disallow: / User-agent: * Disallow: / But https pages are still being indexed.
