What can i do to get google to visit my site more often
-
Hi, i am having serious problems since i upgraded my website from joomla 1.5 to 3.0
We have dropped down the rankings from page one for the word lifestyle magazine, and we have dropped down in rankings for other very important words including gastric band hypnotherapy and i am starting to regret having the site upgraded.
i am finding the google is taking its time visiting my site, i know this for two reasons, one i have checked the cache and it is showing the 2nd july and i have checked articles that we have written and they are still not showing.
example if i put this article name in word for word it does not come up,
Carnival Divert Ships In The Caribbean Due To bad Weather
this was an article that was done yesterday. in the old days before the upgrade that would have been in google now.
these problems are costing us the loss of a great deal of traffic, we are losing around 70% of our traffic since the upgrade and would be grateful if people could give me advice on how to turn things around.
we add articles all the time. each day we add a number of articles, i was considering changing the front page in the middle and having a few paragraphs of the latest story to get google to visit more often. i know this would look messy but i am running out of ideas.
any help would be great

hi, i have just got a reply from my hosting company
To use the If-Modified-Since HTTP header, you need to have both mod_expires and mod_headers enabled as Apache modules on your server. I have just checked that for you and I can confirm that both of the modules are enabled and you will be able to use If-Modified-Since HTTP headers.
Gyi, how would i know use these if the hosting company does offer the service

our home was number one in google for a long time and then dropped to around number four, since the upgrade we are on page nine, same as the term gastric band hypnotherapy, showbiz gossip and so on.
not sure if we should be doing more to optimize the main pages so google understand what the pages are about.
i do know our traffic has dropped by 70% since the upgrade and we need the get the traffic back. the site was updated around two months ago.
before the update, if we had a story on our site which we had just put on then within hours it would be in google but now it is taking days to show up which is causing us problems
-
thank for this.
I have a site map in my webmaster tools and i update my content each day, we add lots of content but concerned that the home page only has links and a small intro and wondering if i should show the first two paragraphs of a new story on the home page to get google to crawl the home page more often.
i am working on the site speed at the moment, not sure if you think about our site speed at present. before we had the site updated we finally got it to load in about 1,1 sec and under but not managed that at the moment.
can you explain what this means please as i have never come across it
Make sure your web server supports the If-Modified-Since HTTP header.
you said about making sure all pages are reachable from a link, we have around two thousand pages so not sure this is possible
many thanks for the great help.

Tim,
Did this drop happen after your website update or was the update in response to a drop in your rankings?
From your other comments, I think it's only been a month so since you transitioned to your new site so you can still chalk this all up to that transition.
Due to the redesign, those previously ranking pages may now be buried deeper within your architecture, you may link to them differently, or your redesign may have overlapped with an algorithm update reduced your visibility. Have you verified that you were not penalized?
If things don't change, you could take a look back at which pages were ranking for the keywords you specified and 2. verify that either you're using the same URL or that the old URL is 301'd to the new one (you should have done that already); 3. look at your old site (maybe using the waybackmachine) to review your internal linking to those previously-ranking pages (how many internal links, the anchor text and from what pages) and verify that the new site does the same.
edit: not being crawled often is a symptom of not having enough authority as meets your needs or architecture that leads to sporadic crawling intervals. If those money pages are linked to from the home page, you might rule out the latter.

Crawls are based on many factors such as PageRank, links to a page, and crawling constraints such as the number of parameters in a URL. Any number of factors can affect the crawl frequency of individual sites.
So:
- Build links
- Make sure all pages are reachable from a link.
- Make sure your web server supports the If-Modified-Since HTTP header.
- Update your content often and regularly.
- Take steps to increase site speed.
- Eliminate duplicate content.
- Limit 400 errors.
- Add a sitemap.
You could also adjust the crawl rate in Google Webmaster Tools, but you shouldn't have to.

Site:www.domainname.com - does not find homepage in Google (only inner pages - why?)
When I do a Google search on site:www.domainname.com, my clients homepage does not appear. Other inner pages do. The same thing happend a while ago and I did 'fetch by google' in Search Console. After that the homepage was indexed again when I did a site:www.domainname.com search. But now (2 weeks later), it's gone again. When I search on the brand name of the website in Google it does find the homepage. I don't know why it doesn't find the homepage when I do a site: search. Any ideas? Authority site drastic ranking drop after google https switch. Please Help!
Hi Mozers. Since Google switched to the https version, our company website (http://we.register.it) indexing switched to the https version (https://www.register.it). After that the ranking on Google dropped for almost every keyword. The site is very old and got a great authority and PR 7. It ranked for same keywords for very long time On each page from years there is the correct meta rel canonical. No spam, and WMT is ok. Could you please help? The internal links are all in http, and in https. If you are https are in https (they are all relatives) No changes have been made and the subdomain is in that way from 8 years: the main url has always been http://we.register.it Google started this indexing switch around the 15 October

Google rankings strange behaviour - our site can only be found when searching repeatedly
Hello, We are experiencing something very odd at the moment I hope somebody could shed some light on this. The rankings of our site dropped from page 2 to page 15 approx. 9 months ago. At first we thought we had been penalised and filed a consideration request. Google got back to us saying that there was no manual actions applied to our site. We have been working very hard to try to get the ranking up again and it seems to be improving. Now, according to several serps monitoring services, we are on page 2/3 again for the term "holiday lettings". However, the really strange thing is that when we search for this term on Google UK, our site is nowhere to be found. If you then right away hit the search button again searching for the same term, then voila! our website is on www.alphaholidaylettings.com page 2 / 3! We tried this on many different computers at different locations (private and public computers), making sure we have logged out from Google Accounts (so that customised search results are not returned). We even tried the computers at various retail outlets including different Apple stores. The results are the same. Essentially, we are never found when someone search for us for the first time, our site only shows up if you search for the same term for the second or third time. We just could not understand why this is happening. Somebody told me it could be due to "Google dance" when indices on different servers are being updated, but this has now been going on for nearly 3 months. Has anyone experienced similar situations or have any advice? Many thanks!

How do I get out of google bomb?
Hi all, I have a website named bijouxroom.com; and I was in the 7th page for the search term takı in google; and 2nd page for online takı. Now, I see that in one day my results seem to be on the 13th and 10th page in google respectively. I made too much anchor text for takı and online takı. What shall I do to gain my positions back? Thanks in advance. Regards,

How do we ensure our new dynamic site gets indexed?
Just wondering if you can point me in the right direction. We're building a 'dynamically generated' website, so basically, pages don’t technically exist until the visitor types in the URL (or clicks an on page link), the pages are then created on the fly for the visitor. The major concern I’ve got is that Google won’t be able to index the site, as the pages don't exist until they're 'visited', and to top it off, they're rendered in JSPX, which makes things tricky to ensure the bots can view the content We’re going to build/submit a sitemap.xml to signpost the site for Googlebot but are there any other options/resources/best practices Mozzers could recommend for ensuring our new dynamic website gets indexed?

What can i do to let google know we are a lifestyle magazine
Hi my site http://www.in2town.co.uk/ is a lifestyle magazine and before we changed templates and changed the joomla language from 1.0 to 1.5 our lifestyle magazine was getting around 10,000 visitors a day and we were number one in google for the search term lifestyle magazine. In the past few months we have been number five for the search term lifestyle magazine and now since yesterday we have dropped to ten. I have a serious problem that being a online lifestyle magazine i do not have the luxury to have lots of text telling people it is a lifestyle magazine and google. What i mean is, if this was a website about benidorm then you would have an introduction about benidorm so google would understand what the site is about. What i would like help on, is to get back to the top and know where i can put a nice introduction which does not look out of place and what i can do to get back to the top under the search term lifestyle magazine. any help would be great

Google is indexing proxy (mirror) site.
We moved the site to a new hosting. Previously the site used Godaddy Windows Hosting with white domain masking. After moving the site we just mirrored the site. We have to use mirrored domain for PPC campaigns because it mirrored site contains true BRAND name and there is better conversion with that domain plus all trade marked keywords are approved for mirrored domain. Robots.txt User-agent: * Host: www.hermitagejewelers.com Disallow: /Bin Disallow: /css www.hermitagejewelers.com is the main domain. Mirror site is www.ermitagejewelers.com (Without the "H" at the beginning) Most of the keywords are now picked up by mirror site. I have not noticed any major changes in ranking except that it ranks for mirror site. We updated the sitemap. Website is designed very poorly (not by us). Also, we submitted the change address request for ermitagejewelers to hermitagejewelers in webmasters. Please let me know any advice to fix that problem. Thank you.
