Google Penalty or Not?
-
One of my sites I work with got this message:
http://www.mysite: Unnatural inbound linksJune 27, 2013
Google has detected a pattern of artificial or unnatural links pointing to your site. Buying links or participating in link schemes in order to manipulate PageRank are violations of Google's Webmaster Guidelines.
As a result, Google has applied a manual spam action to mysite.com/. There may be other actions on your site or parts of your site.
But, when I got to manual actions it says:
Manual Actions
No manual webspam actions found.
-- So which is it??? I have been doing link removal, but now I am confused if I need to do a reconsideration request or not.

just something to note for others and for future, you get the notice IN JUNE 2013, and you are posting here asking about in almost in September... this can generally cause mayhem and result in what has happened, a lost message. Gotta be on toppa the game man, notice, next day or same night better get into it!

I guess that could make sense. Google has really done a poor job with all these penalties and not telling webmasters what is going on.
A check of the rankings on this site do not look any better than the month before. They are still much worse than they used to be.

Hey Dave,
I just found this tool from Google: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/reconsideration. Try that.
Edit: Ok, so I just tried the tool and it just took me to the manual actions section of webmaster tools. I did a little more searching and I don't see any other way at this point to do a reconsideration request. Unless someone else out there knows of another way, I'd have to change my previous answer and say that you don't have a manual action any more.
You said you've been removing bad links. Perhaps when Google redesigned the manual action notification system they re-reviewed sites and yours no longer qualified for a manual action so they lifted it.
Have you noticed anything in your rankings?
-
I am not sure if I can. When I click on reconsideration request it takes me to the manual spam action page, and then says no action taken.
-
Oh they suck.
But they have been getting better every week since, just not back to where they were.
-
Well, how are your rankings doin?
-
It's possible that the new message system in Google Webmaster Tools may only display new messages. Since your original message came before the Manual Action section was setup, it may not be listed. I'd still do the reconsideration request because it will answer your question. If there isn't any manual action, they will tell you that. If there is, then you may get it removed.

Same URL-Structure & the same number of URLs indexed on two different websites - can it lead to a Google penalty?
Hey guys. I've got a question about the url structure on two different websites with a similar topic (bith are job search websites). Although we are going to publish different content (texts) on these two websites and they will differ visually, the url structure (except for the domain name) remains exactly the same, as does the number of indexed landingpages on both pages. For example, www.yyy.com/jobs/mobile-developer & www.zzz.com/jobs/mobile-developer. In your opinion, can this lead to a Google penalty? Thanks in advance!

Penalty for duplicate content on the same website?
Is it possible to get a penalty for duplicate content on the same website? I have a old custom-built site with a large number of filters that are pre-generated for speed. Basically the only difference is the meta title and H1 tag, with a few text differences here and there. Obviously I could no-follow all the filter links but it would take an enormous amount of work. The site is performing well in the search. I'm trying to decide whether if there is a risk of a penalty, if not I'm loath to do anything in case it causes other issues.

Interstitial Penalty?
We have an ecommerce website, and we show a popup for first time visitors to our desktop site to join our email list. Google has cached pages with the popup. Can I assume that this is a problem?

Google Manual Action Disappear
Hi Guys, I have a website that received unnatural link message. We had started link removal process, disavowed not approachable links and file reconsideration four times but all the times Google sent some samples of unnatural links and rejected our reconsideration. Last week we again disavowed non approachable links and planned to file reconsideration after a week but today when i tried to file reconsideration, Manual action message was disappeared. We haven't received any message from Google. The same case was happened with one more of our site earlier. Manual action disappeared means it has been revoked or something else??

Why will Google not remove a manual penalty against us?
Our site was placed under a manual penalty last year in June 2012 after penguin rolled out. We were advised by Google that we had unnatural links pointing to our site. We fought for months, running backlink checks and contacting webmasters where Google's WMT was showing the sites which had links. We have submitted numerous reconsideration requests with proof of our efforts in the form of huge well labeled spreadsheets, emails, and screen shots of online forms requesting link removal. When the disavow tool came out we thought it was a godsend and added all the sites who had either ignored us or refused to take down the links to the disavow.txt with the domain: tag. Then we submitted another reconsideration request, but to no avail. We have since had email correspondence with a member of the Google Quality Search Team who after reviewing the evidence of all our previous reconsideration requests and disavow.txt still advised us to make a genuine effort and listed sites which had inorganic links pointing to our site which were already included in the disavow.txt.Google has stated "In order for your site to have a successful reconsideration request, we will need to see a substantial, good-faith effort to remove the links, and this effort should result in a significant decrease in the number of bad links that we see."We have truly done everything we can and proven it too! Especially with all the sites in the disavow.txt there must be a decrease in links pointing to our site. What more can we do? Please help!

How does Google know if a backlink is good or not?
Hi, What does Google look at when assessing a backlink? How important is it to get a backlink from a website with relevant content? Ex: 1. Domain/Page Auth 80, website is not relevant. Does not use any of the words in your target term in any area of the website. 2. Domain/Page Auth 40, website is relevant. Uses the words in your target term multiple times across website. Which website example would benefit your SERP's more if you gained a backlink? (and if you can say, how much more would it benefit - low, medium, high).

Missing Suite Number on Google
I realized that we are missing a suite number. It is not on the website or the recently updated Google/Bing/Yahoo revisions I did. Should I go and fix? Or should I go and adjust old listings. Does a suite number matter in the NAP?

Link to Google Places, or Google Maps?
On our contact page, we offer a link to view Google Maps for directions. I'm wondering should we be linking to our Google Places page instead, or just stick with the Google Map link? Thanks!
