Is The Number of Duplicate Pages reduced after adding canonical ref to the dupe versions ?
-
Hi
Is the number of duplicate pages reported in a dupe page content error report reduced on subsequent crawls, if you have resolved the dupe content problem via adding the canonical tag to duplicate versions (referring the original page).
Like it would if you were solving the problem via a 301 redirect (i think/presume) ?
Cheers

as in numbers of pages in the crawl will be reduced after dupe fixed with canonical, or numbers in the crawl will stay the same but just not reported as errors. The site i'm examining is over crawl limit (10000+ pages) with loads of dupe content errors so if fix via canonical will that reduce number of pages in the moz crawl (not errors) like a 301 would ?
-
But will moz count it as a page ?
-
Yessir, Google will not index the page and moz will not report any errors on the page.
The pages become kind of like air. Users and crawlers can still navigate through it but it is "invisible".

Thanks Travis
Although bit confused since surely if a user can still visit the page so can a crawler, i take it though from what your saying that the canonical tag tells moz (& google) crawler to not count it as a page at all ?
Cheers

Yep, just now you will see a Canonical "Notice" in SEOmoz instead of a Duplicate Content Error.
It works the same way as 301 except the user can still visit the page.

301 and rel=canonical AGAINNNN
Trying to understand rel=canonical if you have proper 301 redirects (redirects to the canonical URl) for example when migrating from a HTTP to HTTPS environment why would you also opt to add a rel=cannonical tag on the same pages. What effect does this have on SERP rankings or is it ok to have 301 redirects and rel=canonicalon the same page? Anyone?

Should I set blog category/tag pages as "noindex"? If so, how do I prevent "meta noindex" Moz crawl errors for those pages?
From what I can tell, SEO experts recommend setting blog category and tag pages (ie. "http://site.com/blog/tag/some-product") as "noindex, follow" in order to keep the page quality of indexable pages high. However, I just received a slew of critical crawl warnings from Moz for having these pages set to "noindex." Should the pages be indexed? If not, why am I receiving critical crawl warnings from Moz and how do I prevent this?

Duplicate URLs
A campaign that I ran said that my client's site had some 47,000+ duplicate pages and titles. I was wondering how I can possibly set that many 301 redirects, but a Moz help engineer said it has a lot to do with session IDs. See this set of duplicate URLs: http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/c/engineered-hardwood-flooring (clearly the main URL for the page)

I was wondering if some of you, maybe with experience in site architecture, would have insight into how to address this issue? Thanks Alan0 -

Seomoz & Duplicate Page Content Issue?
Hi, What is the criteria on Seomoz Crawl Diagnostic Report? I got a long list of URLs indicating Content that is identical (or nearly identical) to content on other pages of your site forces your pages to unnecessarily compete with each other for rankings. But as I gone through none of the reported pages duplicate. What should I do? Thanks in Advance
