Gifly.com: url structure for new site with only one kind of page
-
Hi, we are launching a new site called Gifly.com, it's all about Gifs. At the moment, our robots.txt is blocking everything because we want to have a solid url structure before going public.
There is only one kind of page, the permalink which has this form:
http://gifly.com/QPmf/ (the four characters 'QPmf' are completely random)
What we made different from the multitude of other Gifs site is that we are
trying to categorize gifs with hashtags, so we introduced these kind of urls:http://gifly.com/FoYi/
http://gifly.com/FoYi/#fail
http://gifly.com/FoYi/#blonde
http://gifly.com/FoYi/#dumbThis was done for several reason, the first is that each gif can have up to 10
hashtags.Another approach to this could have been:
http://gifly.com/fail/FoYi/
http://gifly.com/blonde/FoYi/
http://gifly.com/dumb/FoYi/...but we will face tons of duplicated contents for search engines because the same gif
would have 10x permalinks this way.The way we use to navigate between hashtags is via buttons/ajax (see the list of hashtags on the left)
We know that google may have a hard time understanding the site's structure,We'd like to know if the current set of urls, as:
http://gifly.com/FoYi/
http://gifly.com/FoYi/#fail
http://gifly.com/FoYi/#blonde
http://gifly.com/FoYi/#dumbcould be okay if we provide google a solid sitemap.
We are thinking about a first sitemap with the list of hashtags,
each hashtag points to a second sitemap containing the list of new gifs uploaded for said hashtag. Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the hint, we added bot the canonical url and the category page.

I would suggest setting the canonical tag on each of the GIF pages. So http://gifly.com/FoYi/ and http://gifly.com/FoYi/#blonde would not be considered duplicate content when Google encounters those URLs because Google knows that http://gifly.com/FoYi/ is the designated canonical URL that should be indexed regardless of any hashtags that happen to be appended to it.
I would also recommend setting up the category/hashtag pages as their own standalone pages. For example, all of the GIFs related to #blonde would be located on http://gifly.com/blonde/. Then once you click through to one of the individual GIF pages, they will link to http://gifly.com/FoYi/ or whatever the URL is. This way you can optimize the category pages for SEO, such as "Dumb Blonde GIFs" and put some original text on the page in addition to just the links to the individual GIFs.

Backlinks - Linking to new domain
Hello Moz community! My established client recently franchised their business by adding a metro area location. We have thousands of back links built to the corporate website, a lot of which have anchor text that are geo-targeted to the new metro area website. We still find the corporate website important, but would rather focus our efforts now on the newly franchised location. Does anyone have experience with successfully having old links changed to a new domain and if so how? When changing directory listings, such as everything on get listed, is it better do do slowly or as much at once as possible? Any recommendations or information would be appreciated! Thanks!

More than 2K dofollow links, from one site with one anchor text?
A week ago one person of our team added a link with anchor text on a web directory website PR5, but from this one link, Google indexed more than 2K links from this website with same anchor text, and then our keyword ranked first on SERP. The problem is that this clearly look like SPAM to Google, so which way is better to remove this link, with disawow tool, or to contact the web directory site owner?Could anyone give me any advice for this?

Article Backlinks To Product Pages
I am writing a number of 500 word articles and have read that Top 10 lists are becoming more and more popular on the web. So my thoughts are to write an article about the the 'Top 10 Mens Grooming Products 2013' for example. My questions is - do I post this article on my own website with the 10 links to the product pages using the product name as 'anchor text', or post the article to somewhere like Squidoo containing the links to my product pages. Which strategy has more SEO value?

LINK BUILDING. IN MAIN PAGE OR INNER PAGES?
I have a question about Link Building. What´s best for SEO, putting the links in main page or using a Link page inside with all the links? I would also like to know what´s best for SEO follow or not follow links, and how they work? Thanks in advance. Maria Jesus

What are some good easy links to get for new sites?
We are in the process of launching a couple of new sites and while we know it will be a long process to get them to rank, achieving some long-tail keywords would be beneficial. What sites would you recommend for getting some easy links to start with that can help the indexation and ranking process along in the preliminary stages? Or another way to put the question - when you launch a new site, what steps do you go through?

Linking to Adsense heavy sites?
Hi SEOmoz community! Hopefully a pretty straight forward question here... Does anyone know if linking to "Adsense heavy" websites can have a negative impact on your rankings? Or a positive impact even? Thes sites in particular are owned by a business aquintance, so they come from a trusted source even though the sites themselves look quite "spammy". Also they all have pagerank of 1 or 2 and there's about 100 of the sites that we would link to. Does anyone have any thoughts? Regards, Ash 🙂
