Rogerbot crawls my site and causes error as it uses urls that don't exist
-
Whenever the rogerbot comes back to my site for a crawl it seems to want to crawl urls that dont exist and thus causes errors to be reported...
Example:- The correct url is as follows:
/vw-baywindow/cab_door_slide_door_tailgate_engine_lid_parts/cab_door_seals/genuine_vw_brazil_cab_door_rubber_68-79_10330/
But it seems to want to crawl the following:
/vw-baywindow/cab_door_slide_door_tailgate_engine_lid_parts/cab_door_seals/genuine_vw_brazil_cab_door_rubber_68-79_10330/?id=10330
This format doesn't exist anywhere and never has so I have no idea where its getting this url format from
The user agent details I get are as follows:
IP ADDRESS: 107.22.107.114
USER AGENT: rogerbot/1.0 (http://moz.com/help/pro/what-is-rogerbot-, rogerbot-crawler+pr1-crawler-17@moz.com) -
The first thing I would do is download the crawl report as an excel sheet. You can do this from your crawl report page.
From there, sort by the 404 error column, bringing "True" to the top. The top of the list is now the broken URL's. One of the very last columns on the right is the "referrer" column. This will show you the page where Roger is getting the bad link from.

Since July 1, we've had a HUGE jump in errors on our weekly crawl. We don't think anything has changed on our website. Has MOZ changed something that would account for a large leap in duplicate content and duplicate title errors?
Our error report went from 1,900 to 18,000 in one swoop, starting right around the first of July. The errors are duplicate content and duplicate title, as if it does not see our 301 redirects. Any insights?

How do YOU use site explorer?
I normally use open site explorer to identify links that competitors of my clients have and sometimes this gives me what I call 'some low hanging fruit' to go after. (and of course links that are more challenging to get) I don't know why this didn't occur to me sooner. If my client is a chiropractor why not look at the links for 50 or 100 of the top rankings chiropractic sites all over the US? This would HAVE to uncover a wealth of blogs to comment on that have good authority, great industry associations, publications, forums - a whole wealth of items. It made me wonder how many people use site explorer like I have been (top 3-4 competitors that your client has) or identifying links pointing to LOTS of competitors? How do you use it? Couldn't you almost base an entire link building campaign using OSE? Why would this be a bad idea if not? Just some random thoughts. THE WEEKEND IS ALMOST HERE - Have a great day everybody! 🙂

Which URL to use for my campaign?
My outdated CMS redirects from a clean url root domain to an ugly url. Should I use the ugly one to start a my campaign? So when you type in www.site.com it redirects to www.site.com/site/c.leJRIROrEpH/b.5699537/k.BEF4/Home.htm Should I use the url it redirects to when starting a campaign?

No Crawl data in dashboard
For the second straight week, I have had no crawl data in my dashboard. It seems like the crawler erased all my results in the pro dashboard. Is there a way to manually recrawl my site, since I will have to wait another week to see if it comes back to earth? Thanks

How to use Crawl Report for a test directory
I have a client's new site set up in a folder that is not linked to from the main site. When setting up the Crawl Report, I put in the starting url for the new folder, http://oldsite.com/new/start.php. The Crawl Report came back with a crawl of the current site instead. How do folks run the crawl report to test sites before they are public? Thanks!

URL Encoding
HI SEOmoz has finished crawling the site and surprised me with nearly 4k of 301's all the 301 are on my deal pages Example of the 301 http://www.economy-car-leasing.co.uk/van-leasing-deals/ford/transit-lease/transit-lwb-el-minibus-diesel-rwd-high-roof-17-seater-tdci-135ps%3D586165 as you can see from the above URL it returns a 404 but the URL is actually sent as below http://www.economy-car-leasing.co.uk/van-leasing-deals/ford/transit-lease/transit-lwb-el-minibus-diesel-rwd-high-roof-17-seater-tdci-135ps=586165 For some reason SEOmoz crawler is converting the = to %3d and reporting its a 301 even though it returns 404 Is this an error on SEOMOZ part ? or is there an error on my site Googlebot when i do a fetch as Google bot returns all on with the = sign and every other tool i have tried is ok too so not sure why SEOMOZ is seeing it different and then adding the URL as a 301 I am hoping this is just a glitch on the report tool part as im struggling since a recent site 301

Very confused on site.com/ or not using a /
I'm wanting to put the rel="canonical" tag on my homepage but I'm not sure which to use? How would you know what to use and always links to, http://www.site.com or http://www.site.com**/** Personally I never knew there was a difference until I used the seomoz tool and I wasn't using the tag.
