Can creating fresh sitemap and submitting to Google webmaster improve SEO?

Thanks for sharing Geoff Andrews!

Hi Kelly,
Also consider making sitemaps if:
- you have alternate versions of the website - like a mobile version for example
- you are using video content on the website
With the video content a sitemap will help you get a thumbnail in the results which can attract more clicks - especially with your how to type articles. If you are using a service like Wistia.com it's very easy to create a Video Sitemap.

Noted with thanks Davinia.
Appreciate your advice! -
Refreshing your sitemap wouldn't help SEO unless you had a sitemap that was incorrect or didn't have one at all. If you have a website that adds new pages often, like an eCommerce site, then you should use a dynamic XML sitemap (not a static xml sitemap). This will ensure that as your website changes the search engines are able to find the new pages.
It's also good that once you have upload your sitemap (via Google Webmaster Tools) that you monitor it for a while to ensure that all of your pages are being indexed and that there are no issues with how your website has been constructed.
Good luck,

Thanks for sharing.

Having a sitemap can yes because it tells Google about your site, but there is no reason to resubmit one if you've already got an up to date sitemap.
In short -
Up to date site map yay
Updating an up to date site map nay

What exactly is an impression in Google Webmaster Tools search queries with the image filter turned on?
Is it when someone does an image search? Or does it count a regular search that has images in it? On an image search does the picture actually have to be viewed on the screen or can it be below in the infinite scroll?

Google and JavaScript
Hey there! Recent announcements at Google to encourage webmasters to let Google crawl Java Script http://www.googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2014/05/understanding-web-pages-better.html http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2014/05/rendering-pages-with-fetch-as-google.html We have always put JS and CSS behind robots.txt, but now considering taking them out of robots. Any opinions on this?

Submitting XML Sitemap for large website: how big?
Hi there, I’m currently researching how I can generate an XML sitemap for a large website we run. We think that Google is having problems indexing the URLs based on some of the messages we have been receiving in Webmaster tools, which also shows a large drop in the total number of indexed pages. Content on this site can be accessed in two ways. On the home page, the content appears as a list of posts. Users can search for previous posts and can search all the way back to the first posts that were submitted. Posts are also categorised using tags, and these tags can also currently be crawled by search engines. Users can then click on tags to see articles covering similar subjects. A post could have multiple tags (e.g. SEO, inbound marketing, Technical SEO) and so can be reached in multiple ways by users, creating a large number of URLs to index. Finally, my questions are: How big should a sitemap be? What proportion of the URLs of a website should it cover? What are the best tools for creating the sitemaps of large websites? How often should a sitemap be updated? Thanks 🙂

Can too many NoFollow links damage your Google rankings?
I've been trying to recover from a Google algorithm change since Sep 2012, so far without success. I'm now wondering if the nofollow on external links in my blog posts are actually doing me damage. http://www.smartdatinguk.com/blog/ Does anyone have any experience of this?

Somthing weird in my Google Webmaster Tools Crawl Errors...
Hey, I recently (this past may) redesigned my e-commerce site from .asp to .php. I am trying to fix all the old pages with 301 redirects that didn't make it in the switch, but I keep getting weird pages coming up in GWT. I have about 400 pages under crawl errors that look like this "emailus.php?id=MD908070" I delete them and they come back. my site is http://www.moondoggieinc.com the id #'s are product #'s for products that are no longer on the site, but the site is .php now. They also do not show a sitemap they are linked in or any other page that they are linked from. Are these hurting me? and how do I get rid of them? Thanks! KristyO

Can I Improve Organic Ranking by Restrict Website Access to Specific IP Address or Geo Location?
I am targeting my website in US so need to get high organic ranking in US web search. One of my competitor is restricting website access to specific IP address or Geo location. I have checked multiple categories to know more. What's going on with this restriction and why they make it happen? One of SEO forum is also restricting website access to specific location. I can understand that, it may help them to stop thread spamming with unnecessary Sign Up or Q & A. But, why Lamps Plus have set this? Is there any specific reason? Can I improve my organic ranking? Restriction may help me to save and maintain user statistic in terms of bounce rate, average page views per visit, etc...
