NAPtastic: Google updated G+ page to "correct" street spelling, but not Maps
-
A client's G+ page updated from "Jimmy" to "Jimmie" Rd. The change is technically correct according to the legal county road name, though the Places, G+, and indeed even the printed inscription on the Google map itself all say "Jimmy." So, too, does virtually all of the NAP instances around the web.
Question - should we update Business Registration Managers with the updated address info and assume the Google change will also eventually filter to other Google assets, or make no changes?
Weird, right? Here's the Place:
Thanks!

You're very welcome, Patrick. Sounds like you've got a busy day ahead! Good luck with everything you're doing.

Thanks for that, Miriam! That Google Map Forum is something new to me, so I'll be poking around in there tonight as we're in the midst of developing a website for large shopping center and integrating a custom Google Map for their tenants. Having a little issue here and there, so this forum may come in handy! - Patrick

Hi Perfect Pitch,
I agree with Patrick - don't touch anything. I would, however, report the issue via the Google Mapmaker Forum:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/map-maker
See if you can get one of the RERs there to help you get the map corrected before you make changes to anything else. Clearly, there's an important discrepancy here that could be causing problems, not just for your client, but for everyone doing business on that street and everyone trying to come there to do business.

Patrick,
I saw that "did you mean" in the SERP, as well, thank you for corroborating. Interesting point about Zillow. I wonder where on Earth Google is getting the "correct" spelling from?
Unless someone sees a NAP inconsistency issue here, we'll leave this dog to lie. Even if there was, and arguably there is, I'm not sure if there's even a way to address it.
Thanks!

That is a strange occurrence. I just searched "jimmie Daniel road georgia" in Google and hit enter. The results ALL show "Jimmy Road" and even Google offered up "Did you mean "jimmy road..." as an option to search. Even Zillow has "Jimmy" as the street name, not like they help your localized search, but Zillow is a massive real estate site, so you'd think they would have it right or at least updated as well in their database. Check out the screen snippet I pulled.
For now, I wouldn't change anything you are doing. Just keep an eye on it as from a searchers perspective, Google is still trying to show them a relevant result option of "Did you mean jimmy road...". Hope this was a helpful answer! - Patrick

Google My Business Shared Address Problem
Hi, I have an issue. Our organization shares a church with another organization. Years ago they claimed the address. They have their Google Business category set up as "Religious Organization". About 6 months ago we started sharing the same church with them. We are a total different organization. We now have a verified listing (same address but with STE 100 in it) with the main category being "Church". There are a few issues I am seeing: When doing a search for our address, the icon is the default one, whereas all the other churches in the area show the church icon. Is this because they claimed the original address as "Religious Organization" and because we only have STE 100, even though labeled as Church, Google doesn't see it that way? If you search for the location + church, neither of our organizations show, even after 6 months. They only show if you search for the organization name or address. Could this be because Google doesn't consider this address (therefore both of us) as a church and doesn't show it? Here is our Google local listing and the one we share with. Any help would be greatly appreciated. https://www.google.com/maps/place/1018+Parkway+Dr,+Spring+Hill,+TN+37174/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x8863828b8f17015b:0x59fd9715acc7e144?sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi7h5DCqfbXAhXBc98KHXcyA4gQ8gEIKDAA Thank you!

Google Local and Seasonal Location
We currently rank in the local 3 pack for multiple keywords for our first location. We just opened a second location which is currently hanging at around #20 in the local results. We have decided to close the first highly ranking location seasonally. We do not want to send customers to that closed location. However we also do not want to list the address with google as "permanently closed" in fear of losing all ranking power of that listing. Is it possible to transfer ranking power from location to the other or merge 2 different locations? Has anyone had any experience with this, tips, advice?? Thanks in advance! Chris

Adding Plaza name to G+?
I've recently been noticing local businesses adding the name of their plaza to their listing. Does this reflect on consistency of NAP across the web if only the G+ Listing has that extra landmark? And how would this effect the local map rankings? Any answers would help. xQbevNXSClU

Google Map Disappeared
We had a client call and report that the information in the right-hand map of the SERp for their company name was presenting inaccurate information. I immediately reported the issue through Google and two days later it was fixed and the information was appearing correctly! The following week, we created a Google My Business page for the same client to help boost their presence. Now, when typing in the same general query as we did for the previous-mentioned work, the map is not showing up at all! The map does appear when I type the company name with city and state, but not only the company name as before. The listing has been verified with the Google postcard code, etc. Any insight or work arounds on this would be immensely appreciated!!

What does this message from Google Places really mean??
Hi people, today I've got this message from Google Places. I Don't know what that exactly means. when I look in my places account, I can find no "more information" and I see no issue?? Here's the message: _Hello, We’d like to inform you that Google Places no longer accommodates more than one authorised owner per business location. Your account contains one or more listings that have been identified as duplicates of other listings and as a result, some of the information that you provide will not be shown to Google users any more. To get more information or request access to the other listings, please log into your Google Places account. Yours sincerely,
