Https://www.mywebsite.com/blog/tag/wolf/ setting tag pages as blog corner stone article?
-
We do not have enough content rich page to target all of our keywords. Because of that My SEO guy wants to set some corner stone blog articles in order to rank them for certain key words on Google. He is asking me to use the following rule in our article writing(We have blog on our website):
For example in our articles when we use keyword "wolf", link them to the blog page:
https://www.mywebsite.com/blog/tag/wolf/
It seems like a good idea because in the tag page there are lots of material with the Keyword "wolf" . But the problem is when I search for keyword "wolf" for example on the Google, some other blog pages are ranked higher than this tag page. But he tells me in long run it is a better strategy. Any idea on this? -
Thanks, I think I am better off make some corner stones out of some powerful articles rather than risking time and energy on the tag pages.

That's pretty much what he's saying, because tag archives by design are not really useful pieces of content on their own. They are just lists of blog posts. It seems useful on the surface, but when you think about it, users don't want to search a search engine to then just have to search through another list of articles.
Plus people have tried using tags to rank for keywords a lot in the past, and I have seen far less tag archives ranking in Google over the last few years.

Hey There
Most of the time, I default to recommending to NOT index tag pages. It's what I recommend in these two articles;
- http://www.evolvingseo.com/2012/08/10/clean-sweep-yo-tag-archives-now/
- http://moz.com/blog/setup-wordpress-for-seo-success
BUT, with that said, I make these recommendations because people generally don't know what they're doing, and tag archives turn into a big mess. They can result in lots of thin/unhelpful pages, which do not help much when indexed.
I could see a point for using tags in this very specific intentional way. But you'd have to do it perfect;
- You can not over tag things.
- You need to make the tag archives look great
- They need to provide extra value above and beyond the post itself
- And you may want to to add customizations to them (like this plugin does for categories)
You have to recognize the other better options you are forgoing by using tags;
- You could create a page or post focused on the keyword
- You could create a category around that keyword
- You could manually assemble a page/post which is a resource that pulls all your posts together, much like a tag would do automatically, but this would be a unique piece of content hand curated.

Hi Fredrico,
Thanks for your reply. I could not fully get your point. My understanding is that if we make one article as corner stone, it will always have limited number of keyword and content while a tag page has way more related content.
What I get from your comment is that you prefer a single article rather than tag page to be targeted for a specific keyword. Am I right?

The idea of linking words to the tag page helps engines and people to find related content. However, it is always recommended to noindex tag pages, which means that search engines won't index that page, giving more exposure to the pages that really matter, the ones with the content.

Rel canonical tag from shopify page to wordpress site page
We have pages on our shopify site example - https://shop.example.com/collections/cast-aluminum-plaques/products/cast-aluminum-address-plaque That we want to put a rel canonical tag on to direct to our wordpress site page - https://www.example.com/aluminum-plaques/ We have links form the wordpress page to the shop page, and over time ahve found that google has ranked the shop pages over the wp pages, which we do not want. So we want to put rel canonical tags on the shop pages to say the wp page is the authority. I hope that makes sense, and I would appreciate your feeback and best solution. Thanks! Is that possible?

Where/how do you set up 301 redirects when keeping the same domain and not preserving the filename?
Hi there, I'm just reaching to to ask for some help in understanding where 301 redirects should be set up on a website when keeping the same domain but not preserving the original filenames? Essentially what is happening is an old website is being completely overhauled and brought up to date from a technical and usability standpoint. While the SEO isn't great naturally many of the pages have been indexed by google over time. A few pages have decent statistics and I don't want to lose the juice from them, but they do still need a lot of improving. So my question is this, would all the redirection take place in the .htaccess file only in this case? From reading here on Moz I think this is the case, but I need to confirm that. I was reading this article which has thrown me slightly: https://moz.com/learn/seo/redirection but this seems more complex as the website was actually moving domains. Open to any insight and if you need further clarification or information let me know.

Should We Add the W3.org Language Tag To Every Page Or Just The Home Page?
Greetings, We have five international sites around the world, two of which are in difference languages. Currently we have the following line of html code on the home page of each of the sites: Clearly, we need to change the "en" portion for the sites that aren't in English, but, should we include that meta tag in each of the site's pages, or will the home page suffice. Thanks!

Worth contributing articles to a Page Rank 1 site?
My intuition tells me that it is not going to help with any SEO link benefit by posting an article as a guest writer on a Page Rank site of #1. It's a rather new fashion content site. The article would be informative and not a sales pitch. The only link is to our url home page in the bio. I've been told that links from low page ranking sites don't help anymore. But maybe over time the site will achieve higher PR status, and then the link in it would help us? Any thoughts? Thanks! ron

How to get the 'show map of' tag/link in Google search results
I have 2 clients that have apparently random examples of the 'show map of' link in Google search results. The maps/addresses are accurate and for airports. They are both aggregators, they service the airports e.g. lax airport shuttle (not actual example) BUT DO NOT have Google Place listings for these pages either manually OR auto populated from Google, DO NOT have the map or address info on the pages that are returned in the search results with the map link. Does anyone know how this is the case? Its great that this happens for them but id like to know how/why so I can replicate across all their appropriate pages. My understanding was that for this to happen you HAD to have Google Place pages for the appropriate pages (which they cant do as they are aggregators). Thanks in advance, Andy
