My site has dropped, I'm a little lost - help
-
Hi guys, my site www.platesbypost.co.uk ranked #1 for replacement number plates for years about 6 months ago it dropped to 3rd then 5th now 8th. As a result the traffic has dropped off a cliff. Some of the sites above me don't look stronger on moz's metrics.
About two weeks ago I had an unnatural external links notice in webmaster tools, I no followed all external links in the blog and sent a reconsideration request the day I had the notice and it was revoked within a week. The rankings didn't seem to be effected by the manual action notice.
I would welcome any help you can give me.

Hi,
If the notice was revoked due to you nofollowing the bad outbound links, this means that a penalty has been lifted. However, there could be other issues affecting the site that have caused its drop - ranking 8th is not an indication of a penalty - penalised websites tend to rank a lot worse than this.
The inbound links Marie has cited could be part of the problem, even though you have not received a warning about them. If they are no longer helping (but were helping back when Google's standards were a little lower), then it's feasible Google has raised the rankings of other websites over yours, even though their Moz metrics have not yet caught up.

While I can't say this is the cause for certain, I'm concerned about the number of unnatural links that I see pointing TO your site. For example:
http://www.the-free-directory.co.uk/Shopping/Automotive/spares_and_parts/
http://www.add-page.com/subcategory/subcat_1209_5.php
http://www.ukonewaylinks.co.uk/plates-by-post.html
http://www.cultuurtechnologie.net/recreation_and_sports/automotive/page-174.html
In fact, on a brief look it looks like most of your links are unnatural. This type of link was probably doing a lot to support your rankings in the past but Google is now very good at determining that these links should not be counting towards your ranking. I'm concerned that when Google refreshes the Penguin algorithm you may see a further drop in rankings. It is a good idea for you to review all of your backlinks and create a disavow file to disavow all of the self made ones.
Unfortunately in order for you to be able to rank well again you're going to have to find ways to get people to link to you on their own volition as these are the only true votes that Google wants to count.
Hope things look up soon!

Hi Keri, thanks for looking at this for me, no the notice was for external links made by guest bloggers on my blog.

Was the warning that you had unnatural external links pointing to your site? In that case, adding a nofollow to the links going from your site to other sites won't do any good. Instead, you need to look at the links pointing to your site.

Hello
Sorry to hear about your troubles
I would say that maybe it may take a while to refresh, yet also if you were ranking at one time with those bad links, you may have to replace them with good natural links.
I am learning myself, so I am sure an expert will chime in. I know it is very frustrating. I have sites above mine that have hardly to no backlinks, a low domain authority, and kills my site in every search I do.
I never got a warning like yourself. In some ways I wish I did so I could send in a reconsideration request.
It sucks, but I feel your pain. I do wish the best for you.

+1's just Homepage or Everypage?
We just put added the little +1 button to all of our pages, and I'm curious if I should be trying to get +1's on all our pages, just the homepage or just the homepage and some of our most important pages? Also, is there any reason we should "slowly" add +1's, like google reviews? I'm sure we could get 100 - 200 of our g+ community to at least +1 the homepage if we asked and/or involved some sort of give-a-way, but I wouldn't want to get red flagged for that if it happened in a week. Granted, I'm not really sure how g+'s work in terms of SEO penalties or if there are any for things like that, but I want to double-check. Thanks for the help, Ruben

How can I find the most liked, tweeted, and +1'd URLs on a domain?
As part of a content audit, I'd like to identify the most popular content on a domain. I've tried Google Spreadsheets + API's from the services, but the call limits have stopped me as I can only check 50 URLs at a time. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this? I can get the list of all pages on the site with Screaming Frog, but then how do I find metrics on those URLs? Any tips or tools would be appreciated!

How to implement products in facebook to generate maximum traffic to site and facebook profile page?
Lets take the example of a hotel reservation site offering 500 hotels. Any suggestions on how to present the 500 hotels within their facebook page so that they generate maximum traffic and interaction? No intention to offer checkout on facebook. E.g. adding image of each hotel in the photo album with link to website and some information about hotel. Any ideas? Any good posts or articles on the topic?

Best way to set up a directory / list site?
I have a domain called DownSyndromeBlogs.com There is nothing there now, but what I want to do is create a directory type site where I list lots of different blogs about Down syndrome (my son was born with Down syndrome, so it's a passion of mine.) Is there a good way to use that domain other than just a simple directory? Is it worth it to do some sort of "all top" like site? Maybe listing the RSS of each blog and pulling in a spinet of info? Or have people rank and view them? My purpose for buying the domain was two fold: 1. To give people searching for blogs about Down syndrome a good list of where to find them, and 2. To help direct people back to our site about Down syndrome, NoahsDad.com Another thing I was thinking about was somehow asking people to submit their site to DownsyndromeBlogs.com and perhaps ask for their email address or other contact info (since the people wanting to put their blog on the list would be the same people I would want to know about my main blog - NoahsDad.com) Or maybe there is another thing I'm missing all together..like making that some sort of 'social network' or buddy press for people wanting to blog about Down syndrome..but there are already many other sties out there like that. One thing I was curious about is SEO...if it's not a blog, and i"m not constantly putting up new and fresh content, will anyone ever be able to find the site via google search? (If that makes sense.) If I just do a directory page the page will be some what static and only updated when I add a new url. I'm open to any feedback / suggestions/ advice. Thanks.

Will becoming a YouTube partner get me higher rankings on the site?
One of the branded channels I run has been offered to be apart of YouTube's Partnership program. Trick is - I don't necessarily want to see ads pop up for my videos, as I imagine the revenue is fairly small. I would be wiling to join the program if there is evidence that joining the program helps our rankings on YouTube. I imagine it may - as YouTube likely would give preference for partnered channels, partly due to ad/revenue opportunities for them, and partly because partners have obviously proven to have better content. What do you guys recommend?
