Heavy Weight Backlink not Showing in Google Webmaster Tool

Hi Mozzers
I got a nice backlink from Huffingtonpost already a couple of months ago from this page to coinstackr.com: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/25/mt-gox-bitcoin_n_4854095.html
However, the link doesn't show in the Google Webmaster Tools. Is that common?

If it shows in your analytics account as an incoming traffic source, they know about it. Have you linked out from your webpage or website to your new link?
I would add a link on your site to that particular post, since it links back to you, and use fetch as Google to get them to recrawl your page. Couldn't hurt, and it only take a few minutes. And yes, it is common.

Yes, unfortunately Google doesn't show all its links you can view them in open site explorer or majestic seo or Hrefs. I would still assume its been seen by Google though so don't panic.

Backlink Report Totals Discrepancy
I have been having a tough time getting my customer backlinks developed. However; I noticed when I run a backlink report for http://www.mycustomer.com, www.mycustomer.com and customer.com that I get three different backlink totals. Is there any way to forward to of the above URL's to one or am I doing something wrong when I am developing the backlinks?

Natural or Unnatural backlinks

Backlinks and Domain Authority
Hi there, I have a question on backlinks. I have seen conflicting stories about it, and hoping someone with a vast amount of experience will be able to help me (If you could please be so kind). Now I understand the difference between 'no-follow' links and 'follow' links. I have accumulated quite a few 'no-follow' links through things like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter etc. I understand that they won't feed my site authority or trust; or anything of that sort (I do work on content too, and have gotten a few follow links, don't worry). Now I have seen conflicting answers to the actual importance of them. Some things I have read are saying that SEs completely ignore them (NFL), and they don't even consider them a 'link', but rather a user tool to further the experience of the reader on your site. Which is fair enough, but then people are turning around and also saying that Google relies heavily on them, and they only make up 5% of the internet or something. I have even read something saying they are the only ones worth getting (I know that is bs, but they must have a reason behind this thought?). If someone could enlighten me as to a 'ideal' ratio, and also any little known authoritative sites I could look at submitting content to. I am in the plumbing business, and doing my own sites, so I'm no expert. Also, what are the importance of comment links? I don't go for them, but don't know if I should? Slapped by Google update
Last couple of days we read things about Google algorithm and some things about companies or people doing "negative seo".. At first, nothing was wrong... if you play the game by the rules you won't get penalized you think... right? Today I checked rankings for some sites we're optimizing, and I fell of my chair! A site that was building better rankings week by week just dropped heavily and we have no clue if it's the algorithm update... Attached there are some screenshots, the first one showing the ranking for one of the most important keywords for that business, the others are link profiles & moztrust & rank for that root domain. As you can see, link profiles are much stronger that competitors, but that important keyword is dropping in rankings... We still have to do some on page optimizations (double title tags & some some canonical tags that have to be added, but that can't be the reason for this major drop?? Or am I missing something??? Linking Root Domain does not show twitter
I wonder what it takes to capture twitter as a backlink. We have a twitter account @idyllicsoftware which never occurs in open site explorer. Also it never shows newer back links. Could you suggest how to use it better?

Do affiliate links count for Google?
Hi, I have been reading about affiliate links - links with a tracking code in the URL (i.e.: www.xxx.com/?aff=123456) and I can't find a definitive answer. Does Google count them as natural links or maybe they do not even pass any link juice? And if they don't, what if I get a natural link from a website (without tracking code) and later that website becomes my affiliate? Would the first link still count? I guess that there can't be any certainty about all this, but I would love to know your expert opinions 🙂 Thanks!
