Can panda penalize News publisher sites?
-
Hey Guys,I was wondering how Panda behaves with news publisher sites.A site with +-1M visits a day that publishes +-300 news articles a day and the life of each article is one week top, given the nature of a news articles -->only relevant now. After one week the the news articles have virtually no page views. This results on a site with thousands of quality content pages that has no page views for years. Is it possible that the site gets penalized by panda for having thousands of pages with no visits?

Matt Cutts has a couple of things to say about news websites.
One is that keeping a developing story on one webpage and updating it is a way to have a news page that can build rank.
Another is that news websites that are authoritative and/or do their own original writing can do well. Here are the links to the two relevant videos. (Kind of old, I know.)

http://youtu.be/mtbNpeYP_OMWe have news on our website (not at all the major focus - just as a handy reference for users) and it is also valuable to us because Google news picks it up, but since those pages weren't getting traffic after the day the news story appeared, I started removing old ones to be on the safe side. (Though that might not be workable for a site whose main focus is news and needs to keep living archives.)

Ranking Multi-Language Site
Recently we updated our website to a new version. Our website has a structure in which the English page is our main page with about 50 subpages. All these pages are translated in 5 different languages. The different languages are divided into folders. For example www.ourdomain.com/de containts all german pages. The pages with products would be for example: www.ourdomain.com/products for english and www.ourdomain.com/de/produkte for the german page. On our previous website this used to be simililar. After the website update the SEOMoz crawls are showning duplicated page content/title errors for the pages saying that the pages in other languages have the same content/title as the basis English webpage. Any idea how I can solve these errors?

Penality issues
Hi there, I'm working on site that has been badly hit by penguin. The reasons are clear, exact match blog network links and tons of spammy exact match links such as comment spam, low quality directories, the usual junk. The spammy links were mainly to 2 pages, they were targetting keyword 1 and keyword 2. I'd like to remove these two pages from google, as they dont even rank in google now and create one high quality page that targets both the keywords, as they are similar. The dilemma I have is these spammy pages still get traffic from bing and yahoo and it's profitable traffic. Is there a safe way to remove the pages from google and leave them for bing and yahoo? Can URL re writes fix the problem of critical content too deep in a sites structure?
Good morning from Wetherby UK 🙂 Ok imagine this scenario. You ask the developers to design a site where "offices to let" is on level two of a sites hierachy and so the URL would look like this: http://www.sandersonweatherall.co.uk/office-to-let. But Yikes when it goes live it ends up like this: http://www.sandersonweatherall.co.uk...s/residential/office-to-let Is a fix to this a URL re - write? Or is the only fix relocating the office to let content further up the site structure? Any insights welcome 🙂

Best way to address duplicate news sections within site
A client has a news section at www.clientsite.com/news and also at subdomain.clientsite.com/news. The stories within each section are identical: www.clientsite.com/news/story-11-5-2011 subdomain.clientsite.com/news/story-11-5-2011 What's the best way to avoid a duplicate content issue within the site? A 301 redirect doesn't seem appropriate from the user experience point of view. Is applying a rel=canonical <www.clientsite.com news="" story-a-b-c="">to each story within the subdomain news section the best option? They have 100's of stories, wondering if there might be an easier way?</www.clientsite.com> Also, the news pages list the story headline and the first 3 lines of copy. Do these summaries present duplicate content issues with the full story page? Thank you!
