Home Page Text Placement - In Widget?
-
My client has a blank homepage that showcases his work in a slideshow. As a result, his homepage will not rank. I've created landing pages and they have started to rank, but he is not a fan of them. He wants to add a widget below the menu, essentially where you have to scroll down to see it (no one will ever see it) with the text/onsite optimization we need to get him to rank. This will leave him with his blank homepage that he likes.
My gut reaction is that the text needs to be in the actual page, not a sidebar widget. What do you think? Will this method work?

The sidebar widget will help the page rank, but it is at a disadvantage. Google's understanding of the sidebar makes the content in a sidebar less effective (my opinion, please do your due diligence).
Most sidebars include links, content around advertisements, and generic information. This has resulted in the understanding that content in the sidebar should carry less weight for rankings.
I suggest building up a strong intralinking website architecture. Build those landing pages with unique content, link back to the home page for your parent keyword phrases. Make the slideshow as HTML friendly as possible (can it be done completely in HTML/CSS?) and fill in your alt texts.
Ideally, your home page would have content to help its rank. Can you show content through tabs, modals, or other interaction methods? This way the content is not a focus to the user, but does exist on page for those who want it.

Home Page SEO and city specific targeting?
From What I have read you should target one keyword for each page on your site with the exception of the home page. Is this correct? If the most searched keywords for a Dentist in the area are Dentist "city name"

Cosmetic Dentist "city name"
Family Dentist "city name" Should you try and add content on the home page with h1 tags of each of these? If so then what about the page title/url Also if you are targeting keyword Dentist "city name" but like 4 different cities, should you have a separate page for each of this cities and then if so would that not be duplicate content with the exception of city name? Thanks1 -
Duplication in landing page
This is driving me mad, I have a site that for some reason google and moz pick up the landing page as a duplicate. They see "mysite/" and "mysite/index.html" as two different pages and giving me warnings for duplication. I have no 301 included at this time and I am using foundation as the base. This is occurring both on a localhost test bed and live....... anyone got an idea how to correct.

On Page Optmisation for Newbie
Hi All, Literally just signed up - and thought I might be able to dive straight into my pages using the On Site Optimiser to check page, make some changes, then check again and see it have immediate effect on the analysis. Not so? Each time I click on "Grade My On Page Optuimisation" with the expectation that a box formerly with no tick now gets one, nothing changes :o( Chris.

Has anyone else had experience with different CMS's for Ecommerce . Ones that create static pages and others that dynamically create pages. What differences have you seen with rankings on google with the two. Organic Landing Pages...
For one of our sites (fastcubes.com) I noticed our landing pages were ranking and getting a few organic visits. Considering they were made specifically for PPC, I thought maybe we should create landing pages that would not be present in the navigation of the site but for the purpose of optimizing for keyword variations. For example work station cubicles vs office workstation. We have a page optimized for office workstation but having another optimized for work station cubicles is redundant. Would it be a good idea to create this as a page that is not present in the navigation for the sole person of hopefully being ranked and getting traffic for that specific keyword? Thank you in advance for your help!!
