Alt image tags , shoud i reupload my site images as i never optimized right first time?
-
Hi guys i own a photographic website. www.hemeravisuals.co.uk
And when I created it , i wasn't aware of the world of SEO , alt tags and labelling your images etc...
Would it be wise to reupload my sites images (100 in total) as I cannot rename the files on my wordpress site but it does allow me to add alt text , captions etc?Or just add the data i can to the images allready on the site?Would it be worthwhile in terms of search and pagerank?

I have deleted to old images and uploaded versions with optimized files names alts tags etc also done all my page seo too
-
Yes, this is okay if the URLs for the images themselves don't have significant inbound links. (Just let them 404.) For any images that, do, however, have significant inbound links, I would 301 redirect the URL for the old image to the URL for the new image. (Notice I am saying image not page. Keep the URL for the page the image is embedded on the same.)

is it ok to just delete and replace the images and put them back on the same pages on my site (only begun the seo optimsing process this week) ?
-
I have only begun optimzing my page for SEO this week, so I am just in the process of deleting my images are reuploading them to the same pages they were on before thanks again

I agree with Jarno, given the nature of your site. I'd also strongly suggest 301 redirecting any of the old URLs that have inbound links and/or are receiving organic search traffic to the new ones that will be created when you rename the images. (There are several Wordpress plugins that can make this easier on you.) If the images don't have any inbound links or traffic, you can simply let them 404. Best of luck!

Hi there,
i would defiantly do it. Both rename the files and give good alts just like suggested above. But there is another very good reason to do so. Since 2007 when I started with some of my websites I always used logical names for images and descriptive alt tags and this turned out to send me quite a lot of traffic actually. Don't think of 100,000 visitors per year but using analytics I've seen years with about 7500 to 15000 visitors per year through image search by Google.
Also, these people also opted in for our newsletter, viewed a lot of pages etc. etc. So yes. I would use logical names and alt tags and invest the time in it.
Regards
Jarno

However you can go about doing it, I would highly suggest it. Search engines can't see images so the alt tags and the file name tell them what the content/purpose is.
This is especially important for you if the majority of your content is photographic in nature. If your site wasn't a photography site and not so image heavy I would say just changing the alt tags would be enough. I realize it's a pain and time consuming to rename and reupload your files to WordPress, but I think it's worth it.
Hope that helps!

Hi, you don't need to upload the images again, you can add the alt tag, and if needed, other data to the code.

Old site penalised, we moved: Shall we cut loose from the old site. It's curently 301 to new site.
Hi, We had a site with many bad links pointing to it (.co.uk). It was knocked from the SERPS. We tried to manually ask webmasters to remove links. Then submitted a Disavow and a recon request. We have since moved the site to a new URL (.com) about a year ago. As the company needed it's customer to find them still. We 301 redirected the .co.uk to the .com There are still lots of bad links pointing to the .co.uk. The questions are: #1 Do we stop the 301 redirect from .co.uk to .com now? The .co.uk is not showing in the rankings. We could have a basic holding page on the .co.uk with 'we have moved' (No link). Or just switch it off. #2 If we keep the .co.uk 301 to the .com, shall we upload disavow to .com webmasters tools or .co.uk webmasters tools. I ask this because someone else had uploaded the .co.uk's disavow list of spam links to the .com webmasters tools. Is this bad? Thanks in advance for any advise or insight!

Why does old "Free" site ranks better than new "Optimized" site?
My client has a "free" site he set-up years ago - www.montclairbariatricsurgery.com (We'll call this the old site) that consistently outranks his current "optimized" (new) website - http://www.njbariatricsurgery.com/ The client doesn't want to get rid of his old site, which is now a competitor, because it ranks so much better. But he's invested so much in the new site with no results. A bit of background: We recently discovered the content on the new site was a direct copy of content on the old site. We had all copy on new site rewritten. This was back in April. The domain of the new site was changed on July 8th from www.Bariatrx.com to what you see now - www.njbariatricsurgery.com. Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

Why isnt this site ranking?
I just took over for a site and noticed they have no presence for any keywords...not even low ranks. Their backlink profile is not the best, but webmaster tools says they have no manual actions. vonderhaar.com Thoughts on the matter?

Site Navigation
Hi Mozzers, I am an SEO at uncommongoods.com and looking for your opinion on our site nav. Currently our nav & URLs are structured in 3 levels. From the top level down, they are: 1. Category ex: http://www.uncommongoods.com/home-garden 2. Subcat ex: http://www.uncommongoods.com/home-garden/bed-bath 3. Family ex:http://www.uncommongoods.com/home-garden/bed-bath/bath-accessories Right now, all levels are accessible from our top nav but we are considering removing the family pages. If we did that, Google could still find & crawl links to the family pages, but they would have to drill down to the subcat pages to find them. Do you guys think this would help or hurt our SEO efforts? Thanks! -Zack

Headline tag for images in Photoshelter
Hello! I use Photoshelter for my commercial photography website: http://www.ioansaidphotography.co.uk/ I'm trying to make it better re SEO and all that by filling as much information as I can. I'm using Picworkflow who give you a title, description and keywords for every picture.. But in Photoshelter's IPTC metadata editor, they put an SEO tag by Headline (essentially saying it's important) and not by title. Do you think it's good/useful/safe to use the info Picworkflow gave me for title and put it in Headline? PS: This is for the pictures individually and not the pages. Thanks!

How to be a good SEO optimizer while competing with a good ranked Bad SEO optimizer?
My keywords are very competitive. My on page optimization report gives A grade for all the keywords I want to target to my Root domain. But my root domain does not show up on search engines for those same keywords. So thanks to SEOmoz i have managed to understand the place I lack is good link building. My competitors have done lot of link building through spamming, commenting on blogs, directories etc. Now according to good seo, this is not right. What do i do? I get digging more in it, i realized that i am getting traffic mostly for less globally searched keywords. But my competitors get high traffic from well searched keywords. How do i cope with such competition? Thanks
