Weird Math in GA Ecommerce Tracking
-
Hi everybody. I've recently discovered that I have a problem with the ecommerce tracking on a client's website. The client sells concert tickets at an average price of $10 per ticket. The custom ecommerce platform they use is kind of unusual; the same product often has different SKUs, but not always. This isn't associated with different seats, etc. In fact, I don't yet know why they've set it up that way.
The problem that I'm facing is this: the data in Analytics is calculating the "average price" of a SKU item as the total price. If, for example, the actual average price for a SKU item is $10 and four of those SKU items were sold, Analytics will tell me the average price is $40. This means that the total revenue for that SKU shows up as $40 x 4 = $160. Needless to say, this is enormously skewing the data. Here's a screenshot. Note, it's the same product: http://screencast.com/t/JyLQkb3jzz6s
The total revenue for ticket sales is way off because of this, and I'm not sure if it's a problem with the ecommerce tracking code in Analytics, or something that the ecomm platform is doing.
Have any of you experienced anything like this, and if so is it a fix in Analytics?
Thank you!

Thank you for all your help. The strange thing is that Analytics shows the proper quantity, but the wrong average price and total revenue. It does seem like the "unit price" is off. I think they're running _additem for the entire transaction, vs. each item within the transaction. So if someone buys 4 tickets (at $10 each), unit price is showing up as $40.
I'll reach out and see if this is the problem.
Thanks again! You've helped so much.

they should debug to check amount and qty have the right figures, and (it's a common mistake even if should not cause your problem) also check the code is not called more than once for the same sale
average price in analytics product performance page is calculate summing up the value you pass in the addItem as "unit price" and dividing by the sum of the value you pass as "quantity"
so if analytics is showing a wrong figure these values you pass to analytics must be wrong and you should cross check what figures your application is really sending to analytics

This is the email I've received back from the developers. They're really unfamiliar with implementing e-commerce tracking, so I'm hoping to get a little more feedback here!

The first code fires when there's any transaction at all (they sell stuff other than tickets, and those other items are showing up fine in GA). And then the second code fires when tickets are purchased.
Thoughts?

Check the tracking code where the _addItem is done for the conversion value passed to analytics.

How to track click on phone number on mobile device in GA as a goal?
Hi, I work with a lot of physicians and one of the things I'd like to do is add a goal in GA so we can try to track how many visitors are clicking the phone # to call the office from smartphones. Would doing this be as straight-forward as adding a the standard javascript click text that I'd add for an external link? And Is there a way to make a goal only "count" if the user-agent is a smartphone? Because if I attach the JS to the phone #, it's going to be in all of the HTML regardless of which device is used. Unless of course, I mess with the CSS to only make the javascript code appear on certain stylesheets. Thank you!

Than, me like an admin, i receive an email with informations of a customer, i see name/surname/etc.. but i like to integrate is for example, like to see a: IP from Visitors, who charged the fields Referrerr, if google, like to see which query he typed. How can i do this please?

Is there any way to see how one my keywords ranked historically before I started tracking it?
Hello there! I'm in need of some historical data on some keywords as they relate to my site. Basically, I'd like to track which events have had the most impact on moving me through the rankings, but I wasn't using Moz at the time I had made some changes to my website... Is there any way to see how I ranked for a particular keyword at a given point in time? Thanks! Gene

Search within search? Weird google URLs
Good morning afternoon, how are you guys doing today? I'm experiencing a few Panda issues I'm trying to fix, and I was hoping I could get some help here about one of my problems. I used Google analytics to extract pages people land on after a Google search. I'm trying to identify thin pages that potentially harm my website as a whole. It turns out I have a bunch of pages in the likes of the following: /search?cd=15&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&source=www.google .co.uk, and so on for a bunch of countries (.fi, .com, .sg, .pk, and so on, maybe 50 of them) My question is: what are those pages? their stats are awful, usually 1 visitor, 100% bounce rate, and 0 links. Do you think they can explain my dramatic drop in traffic following Panda? If so, what should I do with them? NOINDEX? Deletion? What would you suggest? I also have a lot of links in the likes of the following: /google-search?cx=partner-pub-6553421918056260:armz8yts3ql&cof=FORID:10&ie=ISO-8859-1&sa=Search&siteurl=www.mysite.com/content/article They lead to custom search pages. What should I do with them? Almost two weeks ago, Dr. Pete posted an article untitled Fat Panda and Thin Content in which he deals with "search within search" and how they might be targeted by Panda. Do you think this is the issue I'm facing? Any suggestion/help would be much appreciated! Thanks a lot and have a great day 🙂
