2 Top level domains - not ranking?
-
Hi Guys
I'm a bit confused, I have 3 top level domains com, com.au and co.nz I have set up the right CcLTD's and also the correct Hreflang tags - but for some reason, I'm only been found for my co.nz site and not for the com.au and the com
My site is zenory com and zenory.co.nz, zenory.com.au the co.nz is doing well in the nz search but how come I can't find anything for the other two?
Is there something I'm doing wrong here?
-
Hi Rick
Thanks for your response!
According to WMT and Moz I have added the CcTLDs and Hreflang tags correctly and set up geo targeting seems to be fine.
Just can't seem to find out why the .com and com.au isn't ranking or showing any sign of being in the top 50 for a long tail keyword yet? I launched in Nov 2014 and we rank reasonably well for the NZ search, but it seems the .com doesn't appear to show anything.
I'm mindful I had submitted the same sitemap for the co.nz to thecom.au and also the com and wondering if that had any effect.
We are in the middle of a site re-design so I wasn't going to submit the new sitemaps until the new design had been updated to the live environment.

Thanks Dirk for the information!!!! I'm in the middle of a redesign it is mobile friendly but won't be launching for a few weeks!

Hi Justin,
Next Tuesday is the 21/4 - the day the Mobile Friendly update is launched. You can find more info about it here: http://moz.com/community/q/google-s-mobile-update-what-we-know-so-far-updated-3-25

Hi Dirk
Thanks for your response! Actually I have been having issues with this! I generated the sitemap through an auto generator in google and the sitemap for com.au keeps send the com sitemap, i then proceeded to try screaming frog sitemap generator, but I'm not sure if I need to fix any canonicalised issues firstly.... Sorry I'm extremely new at all this and finding a little over my head with all the technical jargon.
-
Hi there
Thanks for the update! I'm in the middle of a design overhaul but won't be ready in for two weeks! Whats the significance for next Tuesday?
-
Not entirely related, but your site isn't mobile-friendly. So from next Tuesday, you may start seeing a drop in traffic if this is not addressed.
-
Dirk, you might be right, but then again why have 3 identical sites? Even if the hreflang tags are properly set up, the whole content is duplicated - even the currency across all 3 sites. If you had different currencies on each (as described in the video) it would be something. But right now, all the content is identical (not almost identical but fully identical).
Don't get me wrong, this is not a problem about spamming, it's just that with 3 identical pages, google is going to rank the one that it first saw, the one it considers to be the original - or the one that has the best ranking signals (links and what not).
-
Hi Rick,
Don't fully agree on that - having almost identical content on different TLD's isn't necessary considered duplicate content - as indicated in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=BE&v=Ets7nHOV1Yo. The sites also use the hreflang tag to indicate that they are related & which version should be shown to which user.
I do agree that it would be better to take into account country specifics like currency & spelling
rgds,
Dirk

If you really have the same site on 3 top level domains, that's duplicate content and it's probably one of the reasons why the other 2 don't show up in the searches. All 3 sites are indexed, I have checked. If you wanna have 3 sites, you should definitely use different content on them, or you can just keep the 3 domains and redirect 2 of them to the most important one.
-
Hi Rick
We have the same exact site on 3 top level domains.
zenory.com, zenory.co.nz, and zenory.com.au - **I know a competitor of ours does really well with all 3 domains and is based in NZ. **
-
Hi Justin. Most search engines take into account your physical location when displaying results. If you are physically in NZ and search for your high ranking keywords, you will more than likely get the NZ site. If you have access to a server in the USA and run the same search, chances are you'll get the .com site. Likewise, if you're in AU then the .au site "should" show higher in the search results. Google has made it very clear here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ce9jv91beQ that just because a site ranks well in one language doesn't mean it'll rank well for a translated site or language-specific subdomain.
Other than that, your biggest issue is that you have very little content for search engines to consider. Google used to recommend about 250 words of relevant content, but these days I'm seeing longer articles rank much better. Your site performance could also be better, so I recommend a read on YSlow scores and how certain front-end optimizations might speed up your site.
But you should have already know what we were going to tell you. Your psychics should have told you! LOL
Cheers!

Hi Justin,
You might want to look at your server configuration - all the domains seem to have some config issues (no SOA record / no DNSSEC processing). I am not really into this technical stuff, and cannot judge if these issues are really important or not.
http://dnscheck.pingdom.com/?domain=www.zenory.com.au×tamp=1429174636&view=1
http://dnscheck.pingdom.com/?domain=www.zenory.co.nz×tamp=1429174857&view=1
http://dnscheck.pingdom.com/?domain=www.zenory.co.nz×tamp=1429174857&view=1
(I noticed when I tried to crawl the .com.au site with Screaming Frog and got a Connection Error)
Apart from that, as mentioned in a previous answer, the fact that prices are listed in NZ$ is probably a bit strange for .com (and .com.au users). Language used is NZ version - in the States spelling is slightly different (ex. behaviour vs behavior).
Did you manage to create sitemaps for the US & AU versions? Not related to the ranking issues - but the homepage seems to be very heavy - you might want to work on that (http://www.webpagetest.org/result/150416_2D_J3X/)
Hope this helps,
Dirk

What do you mean you're only found for the .co.nz site?
And one thing I don't understand, do you have 3 different sites or just 3 different domains (and 2 of them redirect to the other one)?

Duplicate store (subdomain) not ranking
I have a store ( www.grocare.com ) and I made a duplicate store recently ( in.grocare.com ) for a different region. Both have different currencies and target different regions. I even targeted the new store ( in.grocare.com ) to that particular country in google search console. They both have different href lang tags to mark different regions too. Now its been a month since this has been done. But the new store is not ranking in the region. The old one is still ranking and I have to redirect the traffic from old to new based on IP.

Prevent us.domainname ranking for UK searches
Hi Moz Community, I'd appreciate any advice you can offer on this. We have a client with international offices, and we manage the website and SEO for some of these offices, including UK. Others, such as their US office, are managed by another agency. All websites have the same domain name, but differ in their sub domains depending on their targeted country, e.g. uk.domainname for UK, us.domainname for US. All are .com. The US office's agency re-desgined their us.domainname website earlier this year. We noticed a couple of months ago that the US website started to outrank the uk.domainname website for branded searches on Google from the UK. After some investigation, we found that their agency had incorrectly implemented hreflang tags and set the us sub-domain as the hreflang="x-default" instead of www.domainname. They corrected this and uk.domainname is now the first organic result on Google. However, us.domainname has remained in 2nd place for organic brand searches (from Google UK) for the past two months, when we were hoping that this would have dropped out of the rankings by now. We have asked the US office to ensure that their International Targeting is set to United States in Google Search Console, but have no way of knowing if this has actually been done. Does anyone have experience of this? Is there anything else we could try to stop the US site ranking for Google UK, or is it just a matter of waiting? Many thanks, James

Which will rank higher: Non-mobile friendly site in native language vs. mobile friendly global site in English?
Hi, we are currently implementing a mobile site, e.g. m.company.com. The global mobile site will only be available in English. We have local subsites of the desktop site, e.g. company.com/fr. The local subsites are not mobile friendly. If a user does a search for a brand term in France, **which site will rank higher in SERPs? **If it will be the global site, is there anything we can do (other than making them mobile friendly) to make the local sites rank higher? Would it be the mobile-friendly site, even though it is only in English, because the local site would be penalized for not being mobile friendly? Or would it be the local site, because Google will give priority to the fact that it's in French, which matches the language of the person searching?

How to handle different content on same domain internationally?
Dear community, I have encountered a unique situation and I am unsure as how to proceed, I have a U.S. based website for intentions of this question is www.musicstore.com. The customer has decided to offer their products up for sale internationally, however, has two business requirements, one is that his international presence differs with product offering and content then the domestic version and two, that they both live on the same domain of www.musicstore.com without any reference to offering a differing international presence. Many of his products are offered for purchase directly overseas, while not against his suppliers rules, it is frowned upon. All this said, now to my question. I'm currently running a Magento two website install. With GeoIP setting which version of www.musicstore.com is presented. Do I have to worry about different content being displayed on the same exact url even though the experience is completely location based? If it is a concern, any risks I should be concerned with. I could possibly do something along the lines of www.musicstore.com/in/ while this is not ideal for the customer, if it prevents many larger issues I'd steer the customer this way. I just want my customer to be able to sell his product internationally without upsetting his suppliers or making Google go, what does this site actually have. Hopefully I explained my question well enough for those who can help to understand. Please ask if you need any more information. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Geotargeting in Webmaster Tools - Is there an expected ranking benefit in the geotargeted region ?
Hi Is there an expected ranking benefit from geotargeting regional focused subfolders or domain mapped TLDs' in the target countries ? Or does it just prevent these pages from showing up in other regions search results ? For example i have a client with a main .com site targeting english worldwide generally, then a /tr subfolder in turkish to target Turkey. Then another subfolder /de targeting german in germany (but the de has also been domain mapped to .de top level domain too). Im leaving the main .com site non geotargeted since its job is to achieve english language results wherever possible and wandering whether to geotarget the turkish subfolder & german tld The Turkish regional subfolder & the German tld are achieving some ranking results already in their target countries googles, but also getting traffic from other countries too (which im happy to get, dont really want to stop this traffic unless there really is a local region ranking benefit for the main target country by gwt geotargeting). So should I use GWT international targeting tool or not ? Since the tld site is clearly on a german domain with german language pages and the Turkish subfolder /tr site is in Turkish the i presume Googles got no probs working this out which is demonstrated by the regional & language ranking results So I presume if achieving results in target countries already then no real need to set international taregt in GWT especially if it may stop traffic from other regions too. BUT if its likely to improve those rankings further in the main target countries googles significantly then i would happily cut off or reduce the other region traffic in favour of higher rankings and hence targeted traffic from the main target country .All Best Dan

Site Ranking in all countries except USA
Hello, I have a site www.apdermatology.com in is ranking #1 for
International SEO | | element8design
"Dermatologist Chelsea Mi" "Dermatologist Chelsea Michigan" In Google in Canada, UK, Australia, Etc.. But in the USA it is on the 4th+ Page, it has been this way for weeks if not months. And does not seem to come up. I originally thought maybe that google was penalizing the site although, it comes up in all other counties. Does anyone have any recommendations how to resolve this, or what the problem may be? Thanks.0 -
Targeting an Specific Country Audience - Domain Q
Hiya everyone! I know this might entail a novice SEO question, but i am having some doubts. Hope you can give your opinions. Its kind of technical question regarding domain and country targeting. I have a Steel Construction company targeting only the audience of the particular country. Last year, i bought the targeted domains for my brand (company name), as in domain.country specific TLD, Should i use these domains, redirect them, or something? Would that help?. I currently use domain.com, but i am constantly being beaten down by websites with domain specific with overly thin content, no PA or DA, and 0 links to their site. Should i use my country specific domains, would that make a difference? Note: I also run some marketing campaigns for charitable foundation i started, and i used country specific domain and server, and with little effort i ranked top 3 in most of the desired terms. Any help or comment is appreciated, Thanks!
