How to trace back a link from a 404 error?
-
How do I find the link that is still refferring to a 404 error? Somewhere on my site there is a link pointing to an un-usable page and I cant find where that link is to fix the 404 error. I could just delete the page all together, but I would like to find the problematic link first.

In the PRO Web App, the CSV export of your crawl includes the list of sources for all 404s/500s/etc. that can help. You'll also find these in Google Webmaster Tools for your site.

You got analytics on it? Can you see what the referral pages to it are?
Alternatively if you run Xenu - http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html - you should get a report with what pages link to the broken page.

Nofollow on internal links
Hi, What do you all think about using nofollow on internal links? On pages that arent so important and use dofollow on important pages maybe for example from the sites menu.

Is this site structure going to kill link juice?
http://www.sqlsentry.com/ This is a parallax type page and the navigation basically points you to the homepage every time. The sub-menu on the secondary pages only ushers you down the page to various topics. This design has concerned me for some time but I'd like another opinion.

Links to Product pages
Hello all, I am still rather new to SEO and learning a lot every day. I do have a question. On our product search result pages (example http://shop.ferguson.com/search/bathroom-lighting)
On-Page Optimization | | Ferguson
It is currently set up so the image, text, price etc of a product is linking to that product page. Our question is, if we were to link the image and the product name - will this be seen as two links to the same page? Is this a bad thing having multiple links to the same page? I searched around to see how other ecommerce sites have similar pages setup and it seems they link the image and also the product name, and the description is not click-able, which allows a user to "Highlight" the text (this is not possible on ours) Which would be to correct approach for SEO as well as User Interface, the way we have it set up, or by going with the method of the question I asked, Thank you for any information on this! Too many on-page links
Hi, My website - www.thepartyhouse.com.au is showing as having too many on-page links for over 4,000 pages. Take for example the homepage which is showing as 188 links, but I don't understand this because I've used SEO tools to display the links and I am showing around 90 links on this page. How can I see what all the links are? Thanks

Site wide internal links in footer
What is your take on site wide inernal links in the footer, e.g. for the most competitive keywords? Do you think those links are still useful or are those links of little value from your experience? It is an old school tactic but I still see many sites doing it.
