Our rankings for "Tree Service" dropped last month
-
Hi, we've had a page www.savatree.com/tree-service.html which was ranking top 1-12 on the google rankings but has complete dropped out. We don't have any duplicate errors from that page on here. Do you have any suggestions? We do rank highly on Bing and Yahoo (1-2 pages).
We can't figure whats going on.

I think you make a very valid point. We first thought we could be getting penalized from the duplicate pages on our own site (which we couldn't find) but never questioned if our site was being copied. It seems like our content is being taken and re-purposed by other sites (a few competitors). This makes me feel both flattered and slightly irritated.

I never knew about that tool. I do notice activity when there's an update. Also, when there was an update the drops were more dramatic (I've attached the graph). I do believe we are solid on our local SEO because most of those pages normally do get served up first.
Does you know what happened in the April 1st update?

This specific page has either been copied to or from lots of other pages around the web. (Maybe 15-20 I saw?)
I would change the content some, make it unique and get it recached. If it's still not ranking I would start with everything Patrick suggested. But getting the duplicate content off first is important because if Google sees 10 versions of the same thing they may rank your page one day and the other version the next - they simply don't know which one to rank as often as they should (original content, not authority, in my opinion.)

Hi there
Have you checked your average positions in Webmaster Tools? The reason I ask, this can give you better insight to overall rankings because this will take into consideration location, personalized search, and more to give you an idea of how your keyword performance is overall for a particular query. I would see when the dropoff started and line it up with Google's algorithm history - that can maybe guide you in a direction.
Is the drop in ranking at all reflecting in your organic traffic in Google Analytics?
According to SEMRush it looks like you saw improvements from 14 to 10 - so it may be location based for you and the search you are conducting.
I see that you are in quite a few areas around the United States - I would look into your local SEO for all areas that you service and audit your citations and listings. Remember - a lot of organic search is based on location, so taken the steps to increase visibility in areas you service will be super beneficial to your organic performance.
Here are a couple of resources to help you build citations and listings:
Moz Local
WhitesparkWhen going through your organic search data in analytics, check your geo specific information under "Audience" to see if you lost traction in a certain region - that can help you prioritize.
Hope this all helps! Good luck!

How should I deal with "duplicate" content in an Equipment Database?
The Moz Crawler is identifying hundreds of instances of duplicate content on my site in our equipment database. The database is similar in functionality to a site like autotrader.com. We post equipment with pictures and our customers can look at the equipment and make purchasing decisions. The problem is that, though each unit is unique, they often have similar or identical specs which is why moz (and presumably google/bing) are identifying the content as "duplicate". In many cases, the only difference between listings are the pictures and mileage- the specifications and year are the same. Ideally, we wouldn't want to exclude these pages from being indexed because they could have some long-tail search value. But, obviously, we don't want to hurt the overall SEO of the site. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sudden 50% drop in SERP rankings
Hi, Our website is well established and has been growing every month until around Jan. 6th 2013. All of sudden our search rankings on Google dropped dramatically (nearly 50%). We getting tens of thousands fewer visitors through search results than normal. At the same time as the drop (almost to the day) we changed our forum software from Vbulletin3 to Vbulletin4. The forums are on a different subdomain, and our forum developer said there is no way the change would affect the main site. Is that true? So far, we have not been able to figure out what caused the sudden change. Maybe a Google update?

Google & async="true"
Hello, Any idea if Google (or Bing) parses/indexes content from scripts that are loaded using the async="true" attribute? In other words, is asynchronously loaded content indexable? Thank you.

Page rank 2 for home page, 3 for service pages
Hey guys, I have noticed with one of our new sites, the home page is showing page rank two, whereas 2 of the internal service pages are showing as 3. I have checked with both open site explorer and yahoo back links and there are by far more links to the home page. All quality and relevant directory submissions and blog comments. The site is only 4 months old, I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the fact 2 of the lesser linked pages are showing higher PR? Thanks 🙂

"To keyword or not to keyword" in the URL string?
We are debating on whether to use primary keywords in the URL for every page for a new client for the sake of SEO. What is the feeling in the Community on which version is smarter? Version 1: www.abccompany.com/miami-moving-company/about-us www.abccompany.com/miami-moving-company/contact-us etc. etc. Version 2: www.abccompany.com/about-us Thank you for your thoughts!
