Two GTM tags
-
Hi guys,
I need some help on the following:
My client has different websites worldwide all with country extensions and on overall .com domain. These websites (and GTM accounts) are all managed by local agencies. We would like to implement a cross domain tracking GA account in order to see some overall trends and numbers. We don't want to implement our codes in the existing containers as they are in many cases managed by local agencies. Is it really negative to implement two GTM containers on one website?
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Sander -
No - I think you'll want 2 different UA codes AND 2 different data layers. You'll also want to test the hell out of that implementation and make sure it's working well.
Sorry for the confusion.

Thank you Kane! Very helpful!
So what you are saying is that it is completely safe when we are using two different GA codes? Or should I still rename the data layer in this case?

According to a few other sources online, having two GMT containers on the page may cause triggers to fire twice. It appears the fix is to rename your data layers on at least one of those containers, but other pages recommend only using one. So, your cross site container probably needs some more customization, and then close monitoring to make sure stuff is working correctly.

Additionally it's worth mentioning that if both GTM tags each have GA tags in them, that is fine if the UA codes are different - full details can be found here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1032400?hl=en. What you don't want is two GA tags with the same UA code.
Is it safe to say that your client has admin access to all of these random GTM containers? If it were me, I'd prefer to own those containers and give each agency access to the appropriate one.

Thank you Martijn, very valuable! Any other opinions?

Hi Sander,
I'd say no, it's not really bad. It will have a small impact on the load time of your site probably but besides that it will enable you to do most of the things via a tag manager which will provide you with more flexibility.

Same spam traffic coming from two different sources
This week we did two big email sends from completely separate sources and separate lists. However, in GA I see spam traffic coming from the same city and the same service provider when I look at the report for each source. Screenshots attached. I'm hoping someone can help me understand what I'm looking at and what I should do in the future to prevent. Thanks! g9NTZ5z X5WhYnf

Two of Four Google Analytics Views Not Showing Data
Question for you MOZ friends: We added two new views about a week ago, the same views that we have added for more than 50 Accounts, and they are not showing any data. The views are for 'Filtered Traffic' (no IPs or spam) and 'Organic Only' including only the organic medium. Any ideas why this may not be working? First time we've come across this and couldn't find much help researching it... Thanks as always! street%20ga_zpsorfdnemi.png

Variables in Google Tag Manager
Last week I got a great answer here on how to implement GTM and cross domain tracking, now that we have that in place I'm looking for some more advice 😉 I'm wondering that if we push variabels into the data-layer of GTM, can we actually use those variables in reports as well? Do they get recorded in Google Analytics? I'd like to use some data that we push to the data layer for segmentation purposes. Anybody an idea how to achieve this?

Blog Analytics broke for two weeks. How do I account for these hits in my monthly report?
The Analytics on my blog broke for about two weeks before I realized it. I need to come up with some estimated numbers for total pageviews, referrals, direct hits, etc to add to my monthly SEM report. I took the average of the past four 2 week periods to come up with the number of hits. Should I just add this number to the total hits on my site? Or are these hits being counted twice if they went on to the main site? http://www.howlatthemoon.com

Solving link and duplicate content errors created by Wordpress blog and tags?
SEOmoz tells me my site's blog (a Wordpress site) has 2 big problems: a few pages with too many links and duplicate content. The problem is that these pages seem legit the way they are, but obviously I need to fix the problem, sooooo... Duplicate content error: error is a result of being able to search the blog by tags. Each blog post has mutliple tags, so the url.com/blog/tag pages occasionally show the same articles. Anyone know of a way to not get penalized for this? Should I exclude these pages from being crawled/sitemapped? Too many links error: SEOmoz tells me my main blog page has too many links (both url.com/blog/ and url.com/blog-2/) - these pages have excerpts of 6 most recent blog posts. I feel like this should not be an error... anyone know of a solution that will keep the site from being penalized by these pages? Thanks!

Why Webmasters Tools verification meta tags change??
Why do these keep changing for sites that I have verfied over and over and over and over? About a month goes by and the meta code has changed and the site is unverified again. Seems like a trick to force you into logging into Webmaster Tools all the time. What gives???
