How do I find out where my "direct traffic" came from?
-
Last weekend we had a significant rise in traffic to our site. Digging in to Google Analytics, most of it has come from the USA, with some from Canada, Australia and a few other countries. It has all gone to the same article on our website. I have also found that it has mostly come from Safari (in app), on an ipad and iphone.
Google Analytics has put this down as Direct traffic. My feeling is that it is not. Could it be from a social media app - perhaps someone with many followers has pinned from our site, or something along these lines.
Could it actually be organic search traffic and Google misattributing it as Direct?
Bounce rate and time on site is fine, so I don't think it's a bot / spam.
Any ideas / places I could go to help me find out would be appreciated, thank you.Joss

Thank you, Dirk. This sounds very possible. I will see if I can find a mention on there.
Thanks,

Maybe your site was mentioned in the Apple News App ? Check this article: http://www.i4u.com/2015/09/95161/apple-news-app-referral-traffic-spikes - apparently no referral info is passed when traffic is coming from Apple News.

Locating Source of Referral Traffic
Hey Folks, I have discovered a Korean site is sending considerable traffic to a specific landing page on my client's cosmetic surgery site in California. I am concerned Google may deem this as spammy - I know I do. I have been able to track the referral traffic to this point: cluster1.cafe.daum.net/c21/bbs_read which appears to be a community-based site and/or forum. However, I can not locate the exact source where the href back to my client's site resides. Given that my Korean is not exactly up to par 😉 and Google translate only takes me so far, can any of you suggest an advanced query or method of tracking to pinpoint the source page? Thanks!

Will 301 redirects (Same Domain) show as referral traffic in Analytics?
For an eCommerce site we have 301'd legacy product pages to new product pages. Is all that traffic going to show up as referral traffic from our own domain in Google Analytics? If so, is there any way to preserve original source/medium info or will all the source/medium info be our own domain since there is a 301 redirect?

Organic Traffic down after WordPress switch.
I recently switched our company's website over to Wordpress in February. Organic traffic went down.... http://www.screencast.com/t/dJ0Oeyma5Xs Same content, there are a few different page URLs but most of all it is all the same and I've SEO'd it to pieces. Any thoughts? I can't figure this one out.

Google Analytics traffic hijacking?
Ran into something interesting a week ago - the same Google Analytics code was installed on two different sites by accident. The account was reporting traffic from both domains. Haven't found a definitive answer on how to stop this yet if it were to be used maliciously?

GA stopped tracking traffic, suddenly, why¿? :-/
2 days ago GA stopped receiving data. It only stopped for one account of all my projects. At this moment there are 5 persons navigating the site and these days there where numerous visitors as they contacted the support team thru the site. GA says that it's receiving the code, hw, I checked it twice. The tracking code is located below the footer, in the body. It was there for few years.... I also checked if there is some js conflict, negative. Is there something that could make the tracking to stop? Does anybody experienced similar problems¿? Should I be worried...¿? (and with SEOmoz server with issues not sure when will see new results.......) EDIT: In Web Master Tools I see results for indexing, with yesterday date, so I assume that the site crawling is ok and must be GA issue.

Large recent drop in "Domain Authority" and backlinks through OSE
Hello, I've noticed that our sites domain authority has dropped enormously this past week according to Open Site Explorer. It also shows us as having lost about half of our backlinks. Google webmaster tools doesn't show a corresponding drop in links and we haven't done anything to our domain recently. Anyone have any ideas what might have happened? Our site is at: http://www.GoldMaxUSA.com Thanks!
