Optimzing a new ecommerce site, Need help with URL
-
Hi
We are putting up a new ecommerce website and for product description, our tech team indicates that they must have the skun numbers in the URL. Which one of the following URL structure do you find the most SEO freindly?
1. http://www.Site.com/SKUNumber/ProductDescription/
or
2. http://www.Site.com/ProductDescription/SKUNumber/
My personal opinion is that most relevant content should be on load page so I like option 1.
Thanks

We program our cart in house and we need the SKU numbers to be passed. I looked at a lot of ecommerce sites and they all have their skus somehow int he URL in one way or another.
-
use whatever your search analytics tell you drives the most traffic that people search on. in most cases this will be just the product name, with the sku somewhere on the product page or in the description.
-
Well, there are no downsides to having your sku at the end.
If you are using this as the unique part of the url, that means you can change the text & structure in the rest of the url without changing anything else - sometimes this can be useful e.g. when the name of an object changes but you want to keep the page url
For Borders (now dead, so no one to complain if i use them as an example )
You could be pulling product names from a supplier database, or coallating and deduplicating across many suppliers. If you are automatically creating your urls, page titles, h1 etc from the incoming feed, that data can change a lot for a single item, but the isbn will always remain the same. So you use the isbn as your unique part fo the url, allowing the text to change in the url as necessary, rather than creating duplicate urls all the time

I like option 3, go with a different ecommerce system.
Your software should be flexible enough to meet your needs. When your software is driving your business decisions, it's time for a change.

My news site not showing in "In the news" list on Google Web Search
I got a news website (www.tapscape.com) which is 6 years old and has been on Google News since 2012. However, whenever I publish a news article, it never shows up "In the news" list on Google Web Search. I have already added the schema.org/NewsArticle on the website and have checked it if it's working or not on Google structured data testing tool. I see everything shows on on the structured data testing tool. The site already has a news sitemap (http://www.tapscape.com/news-sitemap.xml) and has been added to Google webmaster tools. News articles show perfectly fine in the News tab, but why isn't the articles being shown on "In the news" list on the Google web search? My site has a strong backlink background already, so I don't think I need to work on the backlinks. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong, and how can I get it to the news articles on "In the news" list. Below is a screenshot that I have attached to this question to help you understand what I mean to say. 1qoArRs

What do you use for test rendering your dev site?
I'm redesigning our company ecommerce site and need to test render an infinite scroller to ensure that it is as SEO friendly as possible. My problem is that I cannot view it in Webmaster Tools since I am blocking the site from crawlers using robots.txt. I know I could simply unblock Google temporarily but I really would rather not make my dev site available to search engine crawlers.

Address On Every page for e-Commerce site?
For a primarily e-commerce site, should you have your address on every page (in the footer, for example)? Or is it enough to just have it on the contact page? Thanks, Ruben

Building a Mobile Site: Tools?
I've been tasked with re-building our company's mobile site and honestly have zero experience doing so. I know my way around HTML pretty well and have built several websites but never for mobile. Does anybody have any recommendations for me as far as tools to use to construct a proper mobile site? I basically want a simple page with four buttons on the front and a little drop down menu in the top corner. (not that this matters terribly but just saying, shouldn't need to be overly complicated.) Thanks in advance!

What reason would scrapers, and syndication sites outrank all of our content?
Typing in any of our titles for content, scrapers and content syndication sites all outrank us by quite a bit. What is the main reason for this usually? I started noticing this happening quite a bit this year, and think maybe it has to do with panda. Has anyone figured out the reasoning?

Long URLs due to foreign characters
I have a site which provides forum sections for various languages. When foreign characters are used in the post title, each letter is replace by a three character replacement such as %93. This conversion makes the URLs long. The site's software automatically uses the thread's title in the URL. It is never a problem except in these instances. Any suggestions on how to handle this issue?
